  1. I've tried to upload various file types (png & jpeg), not working for some reason, error-200 It's a parade float design on a 48' flatbed trailer, with a very large (28'+) Gibson Les Paul neck coming out of the deck at a 45deg angle, and I'd like to bend it down towards the deck. The guitar is an imported .skp ... changing it to a group.
  2. I've looked around here for info about the capabilities of the deform tool (also watched a video), and I'm already guessing I'm just out of luck here, but I wanted to ask anyway. I'm trying to bend a very complex 3D symbol and as soon as I select the symbol (after selecting the Deform Tool) the program basically freezes. It won't even highlight the object. So I'm wondering what options I might have. Can I make the symbol much more simple? And if so, in what way do I need to simplify it to help this process? Or is this a processing power issue? I have 2 very powerful CPUs already, and I think I'm correct in thinking this process uses CPU and not GPU. Ideas? Thx.
  3. Thanks for your help Rob. For the time being I've decided to forego the visual aspect and just create the speakers in the array tool and save to the library there. Cheers! Steve
  4. Ok, I know what I'm doing wrong. I've been using the file browser and opening the files as projects, instead of using the Resource manager. I might be on the right track now.
  5. Another observation: I've inspected my Speakers Miscellaneous.vrx file, it contains a Marshall head with 2x 410 cabs. My Speaker Tool drop down menu has only "Marshall Model Four" - which I don't see in any file, selecting it and placing it is just a single cabinet. Very confusing.
  6. Can I put multiple objects into the Speakers Miscellaneous file and have discrete options in the Speaker Tool drop-down menu?
  7. I copied my object from the project I'm working on. Opened the Speakers JBL.vrx file which is blank. (And doesn't show up in my speaker choices with the Insert Speaker Tool.) Pasted the Object. Saved this file, closed it, moved back to my main project. Started the Insert Speaker Tool, and JBL is not in the list. Restarted Vectorworks. Same result. I also added a file with just the speaker in it to the "Audio Tools\Speakers" folder.... also same results Am I misunderstanding how you mean "add it to the file"? (FYI, I did this initially with the Default Speaker file, same result.) The only way I've been able to add a custom speaker is to create it in the speaker array panel, and Save To Library, but visually it has a generic form. I'm wanting to get very visually precise if possible. Can you give me step by step what you did with my file when you added it and got the result I'm looking for?
  8. Ah, that makes sense. okay, I'll work on that, thanks!
  9. Hi again, So I created another instance of the imported speaker, and attached the record. Here's the screen snip showing the highlighted box, and the end of the record data options. Noticeably absent is the option to draw dispersion.
  10. Thanks, I'll go through everything again, see if I missed something.
  11. When you attach the record, you're able to turn on and off Drawing Dispersion?
  12. I tried changing classes, but no affect. Thx though. If I create a speaker from the generic tool, I get all the data fields/options on the Shape tab in the OIP. But if I import a 3D .dwg speaker and attach the _ATS-SpkrModData record on the Data tab, I only get some of the options.
  13. Hi, I've imported a 3D symbol for a speaker I want use that isn't in the standard library. I've attached the _ATS-SpkrModData record, but this only gives me some of the parameters. While I can input dispersion angles, I can't turn on Draw Dispersion. I know I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what it is. Thanks Steve
  14. I searched for something posted previously about this before posting.... couldn't find anything. I can't get the included Thomas truss objects to draw in 3d in Open GL - it's just a 3D box. Draw 3D only box is checked in properties, and it does draw 3d in top/2d plan view, and in any render. Just not in Open GL. I tried restarting Vectorworks, same result. Obviously this isn't any sort of deal-breaker type problem, but it would be nice for quick presentations. Thanks.
  15. I would also agree about workflow. We haven't been using this product for long, but already for us, a design process will need multiple changes after being viewed fully rendered. Were we to be using more than just VW, this process would take much, much more time. And yes with us as well, the need for the render is a full lighting look.
  16. I've just run into a problem with this tool as well. It's been working fine for me generally, but I just started a project incorporating a Stageline SL-100. It's got quite a few pieces to it. I looked around the forum for possible ideas about my problem, and it appears to just be the amount of 'stuff' in my project. What the program does is hang, not crash. Comparing how the program uses my CPUs is interesting. When rendering, it uses all 8 cores. (I have 2 quad core CPUs). However, I checked during the hang, and it was only using one core. Am I correct in assuming this is a CPU operation, and not a GPU one? Can anyone else speak to this problem?
  17. <facepalm> I need to sit on my hands sometimes before I start typing... Thanks again!
  18. I opened up your example, and it's still an object I can't rotate. I keep getting the "hybrid objects can't be rotated etc" message. The rotation may not be something everyone needs I'm guessing, but it would help me out quite a bit for the way we're using VW.
  19. We use predominantly JBL, would love to see proper bumper and speakers added to the tool. The current JBL objects are pretty much useless - they won't even rotate in 3D once inserted. I get better functionality from a Sketchup model - but would still love have full use of the array tool. Thanks.
  20. Hello All, After wanting more appropriate 3D people for my renders, I've been trying out Make Human. Creates some nice things, but exporting OBJ - then importing into VW I get the mesh but no textures. The OBJ texture file (mtl) is present, and my import settings are the defaults which usually work with other imports. Any ideas? Thanks!
