    Good morning.

I can confirm that the data for now has defined a 50% faster CPU rendering time and 70% faster GPU rendering than a 13 'MBP with M1.
The tests concerned for now only viewports at 300 dpi rendered with custom renderworks on one side and redshift on the other, repeating the same operations with both machines.

There have been some problems with unified memory though. I wanted to do an important stress test. I opened a file I worked with two years ago on a 27 'Intel iMac quad core (2017) with 64GB of RAM at 2400. It is a file with 6 referenced files. In each of these files there is a 100 million point poincloud. So the final file features a 600 million point cloud.

Well, the iMac as long as it had 40 GB of RAM in doing this process ran out of virtual memory and crashed. The entire operating system was crashing, not just the software. By reaching 64GB of RAM, I was able to finish the job by the time. With difficulty, but I did it.
With the MBP 13' and M1 there was no way to overcome 3 pointclouds.

I was sure I could handle everything with the test machine which has the following characteristics

    - MBP 16 'M1 max
    - 64 GB unified memory
    - 2 TB SSD

But with great regret he managed to barely open 4 and then close. It failed to finish when VW started asking for around 94-95GB of memory.

Something important must therefore be changed about virtual memory, and this could be a problem in these cases, because VW with very large files consumes a lot of virtual memory and does not get it free until the software is turned off.

In the night I calculated an Panorama with redshift. As soon as I can I'll show you some images

Thanks @zeno for reporting your test, really interesting. I also have a low brow question, do you notice any added performance in say more ‘normal’ files you work with (ie no point cloud) with the m1 max over the m1 while you navigate and draw? Or due to single core being the same is it fairly neutral?

Today I will have the opportunity to compare my m1 Mbp 13" with a 16" m1 max with 64gb unified memory.

I have big point cloud file (6x100 million point referenced files) and panorama with redshift rendering file for testing.

If someone is interested, you can send me files with some description via PM

Session will start in 7 hours from now

    Thanks

Hi @zeno this will be really interesting, looking forward to hearing how it goes

get more important in the future.

Hi @zoomer , I am really intrigued by this comment, will vwx be utilising more gpu cores in the future? I am trying to understand if having a 32 gpu core is worth the investment for the coming years of vwx versions.

  4. I have noticed a small issue with the dialog box when saving a pdf from the print dial box. I can only see 3 rows and cannot expand the panel. I noticed this before on 2019/Mojave but seemed to go away with 2020/Catalina. Its not the end of the world but feels funny looking at my files through a letter box.

    MBP 2016 TB - 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 - 16GB RAM

UPDATE : I have just noticed the same issue in Numbers (Mac app). So perhaps this is a OS issue.

Upgraded without thinking, just because I'm off work over Christmas and figured was a good time to do it, but VW21 with BigSur seems to have the navigation lagging which I've only ever had before on a very large file. the Mac is well specced for what's needed and not missing anything so I'm guessing it must be a bug? Zooming in and out and panning across the screen is has like a half second delay with every move suddenly. Anyone else finding this?

Hi - I have gone for it with 2021 and Big Sur - all up to date with latest VW service pack.

From my experience everything works okay and I felt panning and zooming was in fact faster/smoother than Catalina.

    I am using a Mac Book Pro late 2016, 2.7ghz, 16GB RAM

My files though may be a bit light and so not pushing the limits with full on BIM. It is mostly CAD with some 3d modelling, wall and roof components. 3D more of a sketch.

  6. @JuanP I am following both this and the main Big Sur and I wanted to ask if there was a general update or the upgrade following the release on the 12th of Nov. It was said that some feedback would be given in a few days after its release and I was wondering how that was going?

    I am using -

    VW2021 SP2

    Mac Book Pro Late 2016

    2.7 Quad core i7

    Radeon Pro 455 2GB

    16GB RAM

  7. Interesting idea

How do you approach it - is it all free form solid elements? Does this integrate okay in your 2D drawings too. woudl be interested to also see an example.

Get out now! It's a trap!

The lesson I have learnt the hard way over these many years is the tool in its many iterations is a time sink so I model my own stairs.

  8. Dear All

Does anyone know how to stop this happening! I am a fledgling VW BIM learner

I have noticed that top and bottom of the stair has a weird clip / cut fill that comes through all layers. It does not show in the camera mode - just in clip cube - so If I want to export a view it shows through.

    Any solutions approaches appreciated!

  9. Dear VW community

When I try to apply the class overrides from one view port to another using the 'bucket' apply attributes tool - it does not display the change.

In the view port I just tried to do this with the class indicates in the object info that it has changed but does not display.

Some viewports can work but mostly it doesn't.

Has anyone also had this problem? or know a fix.

Below is an image of the attributes I have ticked.

I have had the same issue with that last two Vectorworks 2019/20.

Any help appreciated as it's a real time saver.

  10. I am selling a Vectorworks 2020 licence with no VAT

The price of the licence is £2250 and what is special is there is no Vat to add to the licence cost so its a nice saving. The cost of transferring the licence is also included - it is £150
