  1. No, some use MicroStation instead... (and then, so I've heard, there are a few VectorWorks users out there as well)
  2. What about Work Group Referencing one file into the other, then breaking the link to make it editable?
  3. Thanks Andrew, I will give your quick fix a try. I have emailed a file to both you and bugsubmit. Regards, Nick.
  4. Steve, thanks, but this is happening where I have an internal wall sitting on top of (and in the middle of) a slab. So in effect what I am missing is the line showing the bottom of the wall. Admittedly, it doesn't happen in a new drawing, so it may be something I've done wrong. It just seems to have cropped up a few times in various drawings, so I wondered if anyone else had come across it. regards, Nick
  5. Is anyone else seeing an issue in hidden line renders where no line is drawn where the wall meets the floor? I am quite certain they meet properly, because if I move the slab down 1mm then the gap shows, move it back up 1mm and there is nothing... This is on internal views, but I'm wondering if it's related to v.12's ability not to show that sort of line on elevations. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Nick
  6. Ah ha, that's who Diddyman is... Thanks Steve, three and a half weeks of madness and sleepless nights left. Hope all's well with you, Nick
  7. Having a camera tool is great, and makes creating, but more especially Editing cameras much easier, but please could this be linked through to the viewport. At the moment if you place a camera, Display Camera View, create a viewport but then want to change the view you have two options. 1) use the old, complicated tools to edit the view in the viewport 2) delete the viewport, go back reposition the camera, recreate the viewport I would like to be able to drag the camera to a new position in my plan, switch to the viewport (which would then need updating in the style of a section viewport), click Update, and see the new view. It would make setting up 3D views so much simpler thanks, Nick
  8. Thanks for these ideas. I'm going to have to sit down and work through them and see how I get on. George, your idea could be a good one, especially as I have seen a section viewport used to create a plan, thereby removing the need to see every floor as a layer. Islandmon, I like the way this is going, but I'll need to make sure I'm comfortable with all of the Mod-Layers visibility control. Thanks again, Nick
  9. Thanks for the thoughts. Islandmon, doing it via a layer link is very neat, and works well, but I can't think how I can then present plans of the different layers in their new positions if they are contained within one linking layer? (if you see what I mean). Also, in my building of duplex flats I want my flat symbol to contain both floors (layers) of the duplex. But I can't do that either can I? A symbol, like a group, can't bridge layers - and you can't turn a layerlink into a symbol... This is all getting rather complicated for my mind, I'm just trying to keep editing my drawing as simple as possible. Perhaps I should just get back to work and stop worrying about this. Anyway, thanks again for the thoughts, Nick
  10. Hello everyone, I have drawn a building across several layers, but I need to reposition it a lot at the moment. What I would like to do is to group its parts together so that I can move the whole building around. Is this possible? It seems that if I select objects on different layers and group them then they all get collected on one layer - which I don't want... Any thoughts? thanks, Nick

If you edit the texture and uncheck Cast Shadows I think it's ok in Final Quality RenderWorks it also seems to be okay in FQ Radiosity, though I don't really know much about that.

You can get a nice effect by making a new Renderworks texture and setting Reflectivity: to Translucency and Bump: to Leather, Solid (with a point light in the middle) Nick
  13. Hi Aggie, this may help... http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthrea...age=5#Post33641
  14. Hi Benson, I'm not sure I've entirely understood what you're trying to do, but here are a couple of thoughts that may help if I've got it right. Draw the circle in plan view, pull the handles around, switch to an isometric view, and then use the 3D reshape tool constrained to the z axis to make the curve, finally rotate the object so that it is 'standing-up'. Another approach that may be neater would be to draw a rectangular NURBS Surface (again in plan view), curve that into an arc (fewer vertices and clearly arranged), and then in plan view draw your outline curve and Project and Trim the curve onto the surface. Finally rotate it. Hope that's what you were looking for. Nick.
  15. Thanks for confirming that George, and thanks for letting me know I was on the right path Nick
  16. Hi islandmon, that image is the origin file. it is the file I am WGRing from. Nick
  17. George, thanks for coming back on this. I was having issues with file size, so I had to go the symbol route. The issue that I have with the render should be clear in the image. I hope it comes out OK. I reported it as a bug, hope that was right. If it is, it's an annoying one for the project that I'm working on. It's good to know that you think that is the route to go. I just wasn't sure. It certainly gets confusing though with nested symbols and nested classes. Also, as symbols can't include layers (AFAIK) I have to do my duplex as two symbols - upstairs and downstairs - not that that's a big problem. I am Work Group Referencing the flat symbol into an 'assembly file'. Like I said it gets tricky keeping track of everything, making sure levels/heights are the same, and editing. Regards, Nick
  18. I am designing a block of flats (apartments) in VW (3D) and I have two or three flat types repeated many times through the building. When I update the design of a flat I would like to change only one and have it update the other instances automatically. I am trying to do it by turning a whole flat into a symbol, and then just editing the symbol. But, I'm not sure Symbols were designed to do that. For instance, mirroring a symbol with walls in it turns the walls 'inside out' as far as the hidden line renderer is concerned. So I can't make mirror image apartments by mirroring the symbol. How would other people do this. I'm getting a bit stuck, but am desperately trying to keep down the amount of monotonous repetition. Thanks in advance for any ideas, Nick
  19. It sounds as though your '3D Conversion Res' is set to low. Try changing it in VectorWorks > Preferences > 3D HTH
  20. Eddie, as far as I'm aware the widgets were given "special permissions" purely during the time you were running the repair. That was totally normal behaviour and nothing to worry about (there were also a couple of other items that behaved in that way). I think Apple found this was causing some confusion because after the 10.4.6 update the items given "special permissions" are simply not reported any more. If you dig deep into the 10.4.6 release notes I'm pretty sure that's what it says. regards, Nick
  21. In response to Alanmac, MacWorld investigated this and say in http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?home&NewsID=14331 > An Apple Europe representative this afternoon told Macworld UK: >"Installing Boot Camp does not invalidate your Apple warranty." They do however strongly advise you to do a full backup. HTH, Nick [ 04-12-2006, 04:55 AM: Message edited by: NickB ]
  22. Hi islandmon, out of interest, would VectorScript be a good way to go about this? Is it possible to write a script to kind of wrap round a simple mathematical function and then get VectorWorks to plot it? I've wanted to do this on numerous occasions, but never really been able to work out if it was something that could be done simply with VectorScript. 23. Obviously no one else was terribly interested in this problem, so just for future reference: I got it working by running these two commands in Terminal in the admin account: "sudo chmod -R a+rwx /Library/Frameworks/SU2VW.framework" and "sudo chmod -R a+rwx /Library/Frameworks/SketchUpReader.framework" Like I said it got it working, but I can't be sure that this is the best way to do this. i.e. do this at your own risk. regards, Nick
  24. If the percentage of Mac users is higher (ie. there are more of them) then it might be expected that they would report more problems.
  25. Not that I am aware of. It is probably a good idea to start a new topic in the main forum so that it is not hidden under 'Press Release' and see what people say.
