  1. Is it a show stopper? no. Does it keep the documentation from being accurate? some. Can I work around it? sure, it is just a few extra steps. But those extra steps add up, so can we mark it as a feature request? Several places I see this being helpful, such as the current rack mounting functionality only supports full width or half width. There is often rack adapters for equipment that mount 3, 4 or more pieces wide. The above example of the BMD ATEM Television Studio HD / Teranex converters and rack shelf for example. The modular tool should support these modular rack mounts.
  2. The modular / rack frame tool is very useful, but have run into an issue with devices that are multi-slot and horizontal slot frame. I create a frame that is 3 horizontal slots, 1 vertical row. I have 2 devices, one that is 2 slots wide, one that is a single slot wide. The single slot device drops into place as expected. The double slot device occupies a single slot width and the shape changes size to be 2 slots tall. Bug or is there no way to make a device 2 modules in width? I have tried rotating the device 90 degrees and swapping the width and height measurements and several other tricks. Any help?
  3. This just came up for us today also, looking forward to thoughts and answers!
  4. Is there any way to use the Structural Member Tool or any of the detailing tools to create Tapered Flange Beams? These are very common in pre-engineered structures where the columns along the wall start narrow and expand as they go up, then meet a rafter that starts wide and narrows as it goes towards a peak. My current workflow is to create these components using 3D solids and extrudes, but that has none of the structural plugin smarts or data, everything has to be added by hand.
  5. My setup includes different sizes and resolutions of monitors, no single Windows Scale setting works well for these eyes. But when I have my monitors set at different Scale settings (in Windows), floating palettes (Resource Manager, Navigation, Snapping) on different screens from the main VW window act strangely, often resize and work they way off screen. If I click on the top of the window and try to drag, the palette window jumps to several inches below where I clicked. Issue goes away if all monitors are at the same Scale setting/DPI. Yes, have rebooted after changing. (Setting I am changing is in Windows, Settings, Display, Scale and Layout, Change the size of text, apps, and other item) (VW2020 SP4, Windows 10, NVIDIA GTX1070. Main screen is 3840x2160, second monitor is 1440x2560(yes, portrait orientation) and third monitor is 1920x1080 ) I did some searching, I didn't see this listed as a know issue (though searching for DPI or Scaling brings back a lot of results). Anyone else see this behavior, or is it something system related?
  6. The direct Vectorworks Revit import is okay, but always has odd issues. Such as the structural truss component below where all the uprights are offset: We have the best luck exporting from Revit to IFC, then importing the IFC file (same uprights from IFC import below) Still find issues sometimes, such as this roof deck that is an extrusion from some reason: When importing direct from Revit in Vectorworks, these are the settings we find work the best: For 2D work/backgrounds, we always export the DWG from Revit, then import the DWG into VW. This process seems pretty solid for 2D.
  7. Edit: Thank you for your responses, our immediate need has been fulfilled. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We are a design build audio, video, lighting and acoustics (AVL) company located in the mid-west but currently working on project nation wide. We specialize in houses of worship and partner with architects, consultants, MEP engineers and general contractors to create better experiences and buildings to meet our clients needs and help them communicate effectively. We currently have many projects with concurrent deadlines for drawings and deliverables over the next couple months and are searching for some resources to help us flex to meet the needs. We are looking for someone who: has experience and understands installed large venue AVL systems has worked with commercial construction and construction drawing requirements. has access to and is fluent with VW2020 Spotlight or Designer can adapt to our standards and styles quickly to help create accurate, cohesive drawing sets can work independently and meet tight deadlines, has the capacity for this work currently. is available during part of the day 9am-5pm central US time for team coordination and communication we will contract per project on a fixed scope of work with the right person or firm who can act as a freelance contractor. please PM me with your details or questions thank you Jeff
  8. Conrad, I appreciate the information. I have explored all three of the methods you layout, and while I know we may just need to adjust some of our workflow, I am still struggling with this a little. Using Signal Type to define wire type - yes, in many cases one type of wire per signal is true. But not always - just for example, we use 3 different types of HD-SDI cable on a large job. I considered making 3 different signal types, but selecting signal types is already a really long list. IF there was a way to quickly/better filter signal types, this might be a good option for us. The Cable Field for wire type is flexible enough, but would be helpful if you could choose from an existing list or add to it - thus insuring we don't have 'RG-59', '1505a', 'Belden 1505a', '1505A', 'Belden 1505' all as wire types in a project. The custom param on the equipment would lead to errors if both ends of the wire weren't the same and I wasn't seeing a way to pull that information into a cable worksheet, but I am not the most advanced on building worksheets. Though I agree this could work for what we do if we standardize on receiving end defining the cable type or something. We can obviously make this work, still just trying to figure the best way for us. If anyone else has ideas or workflows that are working for them, I would love to hear! Thank you Jeff
  9. Searching through the wishlist, there are many workspace and workspace editor improvements asked about, one thing I would find incredibly helpful is an advance editor for the workspaces that would allow comparing two workspaces and copying or moving settings between the two. In my mind this would solve several issues: We would not need to create our personal workspaces from scratch or search for the changes to add to our old workspaces when new versions and updates come out - the editor would show us the additions and changes and allow us to bring those in to our personal workspace or not. you could compare SpotLight workspace then Designer workspace with your personal one and bring the tools in quickly, solving the "Please have a combined SpotLight and Designer Workspace" threads. If you use VW on multiple computers like I do, sometimes I forget to update my workspace on both machines and they get out of sync... A compare and copy tool like this would allow me to compare my workspaces and sync them up. If you use multiple personal workspaces on the same machine, you could keep some features updated across and not others - for instance, most of my keyboard shortcuts I would like to be the same between my workspaces, but maybe not my menus and such. Thank you for considering and for a great tool set! Jeff
  10. As a user moving from the autocad-based WireCAD to ConnectCAD, I am finding I can customize and tweak to get the functionality we are used to, finding often ConnectCAD has better ways to accomplish things we were forced to do a certain way... but there is one thing I am still struggling with - how do you note the type of wire/cable used for a circuit? The Cable: field works okay, except 1: we started using that for the friendly signal name rather than wire type and 2: when using it for wire type, it would be helpful if we had to select from a list of choices. To many variations when the user just types in the wire type. So interested in what others are doing? Is there any plans to add user fields to the circuit_rec? Or a WireType field and .txt config file? Thank you for any insight!
  11. I am having this exact same issue, any resolution?
