  1. The most likely culprit is that I believe only VW2018 and VW2019 are compatible with Mojave... and even those users are having significant compatibility issues that are documented at length in the NEWS YOU NEED section of the forum. Do read through the many posts regarding Mojave compatibility.

From what I have read VW2017 will not be updated to work as you have become accustomed with Mojave. 😢

  2. Hello@Ride

I am unable to reproduce the noted behavior trying 2 approaches:

    1. Using the initial settings dialog located in the upper left of the menu bar I selected an arrow style other than the default.  The arrow appeared as intended after placing he note.

    2. After installation of the note I changed the arrow style via the OIP "marker attributes". It changed as intended.

I was able to sort of reproduce the described behavior by first installing the note with the marker box unchecked. After placement the note would then not accept any arrow or other marker using the OIP "marker attributes".

  3. I know it must be me, but...

Since upgrading VW2018 to SP4 I can't seem to be able to access my resource browser content. The menu lists the items I am looking for but the pane that normally displays the content is empty. This is the same for all the folders with only a few, and unfortunately, irrelevant items. I've refreshed the libraries, restarted VW and the computer, all to no avail.

Come to think of it I did not get the usual "download updated libraries" request after I restarted after installing SP4.

    Comments will be accepted.😀

  4. In a similar vein to @markdd's reply, check your smart cursor settings. I have...

I've had the most consistent success after zooming in, and with the pointing hand hover over the leader line end point until the red square appears. Then click, and Bob's yer uncle, the leader line disappears. HTH.

Then it sounds like perhaps ending your Service Select when you retire makes sense. (Being an Architect though, will you ever really get to retire? 😉)

For what it's worth, we recently had a client retire and he too discussed with us what his best course of action would be. (We actually love these chats because each person's case is unique.) In his case, he opted to continue his Service Select because he could foresee still doing a few casual projects per year, and imagined actually having more time and opportunity (than when he was practicing professionally) to use and explore the software.

(As for Adobe's "rental" model, I hear you. As my former life was as a photographer, and I'd used Photoshop since v2 -not CS2, but v2-, I simply couldn't get behind Adobe's switch to CC. After using some alternatives, I have been using Affinity's Photo and Designer applications for a couple of years and their purchase model works for me.)

No doubt you are right that there isn't likely to be a true retirement... perhaps more of a phased one?! I figure even without VSS, VW 2020 should carry me through a few years onward.

I went as far as CS5 with Adobe then worked principally in Aperture (until Apple orphaned it) in conjunction with the NIK suite (until Google orphaned it)... hmm, is there a pattern here? I too looked at Affinity's software but ended up with Capture One Pro for it's RAW conversion and that it can relatively easily import Aperture's libraries. The NIK suite has since been resurrected by DxO but I am treading lightly on this until I learn more. Then there's the equipment... retirement ain't cheap. Maybe I can do an occasional architectural job.

I've found that, when I speak with the "doubters", the vast majority of them realize the advantages of Service Select. Most understand and agree that dropping Service Select really only makes sense for someone who is retiring and won't be doing any paid work any more.

@NeilB your comment helps add clarity to my situation. I too like using the VSS model (in a professional services context) but plan to end it when I retire in about 2 years... which will then bring me fully into the world of photography software. The appropriately described Adobe rental model is anathema to many in the photography community and continues to be the subject of much discussion. Many Adobe competitors have successfully taken advantage of the anti-rental sentiment as a marketing strategy aimed at those (me!) who still want to own their software. I suspect that since CAD software serves a largely professional community while photo software serves a more mixed professional/amateur community the rental model is and will continue to be a harder sell.

  7. Hello @dF_STL . I'm on a Mac using Trackball Works 1.03 and see the same grayed out button. I think it is working as designed. For instance if you were to selected "click" for the right hand lower button the left side button now becomes active and editable. This may be the means by which a left-handed person is able to change the basic click function, overriding the right-hand bias the programmers used.

Then again, I could be completely wrong 🤔.

however: I am always in click and drag mode and when I roll over a deselected object it shows mid or center, once selected it does not, second thing, when dragging an object by whatever point to snap to center the cursor will not show spell out any acquisition points, it will just highlight them which depending on zoom may not work.

@TKA hmm, not sure I completely understand your issue but the text hints (SmartCursor Cues) can be toggled off and on with the "Y" key (some times inadvertantly!) or can also be selected from the same menu in my earlier post but under "General". Otherwise I am unable to experience the problem you described.

I see you use VW 2014 but do not recall if there was some issue with it that was resolved on later versions.

    Struktural member tool

There is a problem with the Profile that have be set. the PI retain the first item of the  menu  and not the ohne you choice.

that's bad because it make the tool useless.

    anyway a great tool.

@jb.trystram I too am frustrated by the long drop down list not remembering your last selection. When I work on a floor plan beam layout the structural members usually fall into a relatively narrow range of sizes so it would be nice if the drop down list remembered your last selection so you wouldn't have to scroll from the start again and again.
