  1. Quite frequently the "Disable driver text rotation" checkbox in the print dialog will also fix this.NNA provides a free font for both Mac and Windows called Archie. Otherwise the most popular fonts appear to be Tekton and Mr. Hand. whenever i come to the dialog box, before i print, the only box that i have checked is the "print post script only." i have also clicked on the disable driver text rotation before, but to be honest, i dont remember the results. i will give that a shot also. tekton and mr. hand arent fonts that i am familiar with (grew up on a pc(for all i know, those could quite be common pc fonts, and i just never came across them)). i will see if the mac at work has them on there tomorrow morning also. thanks for the tips. sincerely, josh bickel ps: Matthew and Katie.......i'm fairly new to the VW world, but i have been to the msg boards numerous times recently (numerous times daily), and have spent hours reading others questions and reading your responses. i think that it goes without saying, that all of us out here appreciate what you guys do for us. i also appreciate the individuals that respond to questions that others have. thanks, Matthew, Katie, and everyone else that has found this msg board to be usefull
  2. thanks TS. i will give it a try tomorrow at work. i think you are right about the PS issue. when i print 8.5x11 checkplots, on a non-ps printer, everything seems to be fine, but when i print from the plotter, thats where the problems are visible. could be that the text is so small on the checkplots. i know this problem might not be an issue to some people, but if my name is on a drawing, i want it to look as great as possible. anyways, thanks again and i will try the font tomorrow morning.
  3. originally when i started working here, all of the drawings had geneva fonts for all the text. whenever the drawings were plotted, some of the letters would run together and some would have a space between them that was almost as large as a "real" space. i changed all the text to aerial, and that seemed to fix that problem. now whenever the text is underlined, there are gaps in the underline between some letters. is there a font that most people use in vectorworks, and is this a problem with the printer/software. we are using an hp 488ca. thanks in advance. sincerely, Josh BickelAudio Analysts3286 N. 4. i just added the pio and for some reason it only works for me on some files. any idea as to why it doesnt work on some of the drawings?

  6. "..right, especially when you know VW so wellthat the only little thing you are missing is the layer stacking order issue, one of the most advanced, complex and little known features." i'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not with the response. i have only been using VW for about 6 months, so i'm sure that there are many features that i have not come across yet. same goes for autocad. i've used it for about 10 years, and i'm sure that i have only scratched the surface. VW is a much easier program to use and has features that are superior to autocad. i'm not saying anything bad about VW. for some drawings i would prefer to use VW and for others, autocad. for creating drawings from scratch, VW is great, but when importing autocad drawings, that can sometimes be a pain.
  7. i really appreciate the responses. i was able to manipulate the existing drawings in VW, due to your guys' help. i agree with the last response. the job that i was having problems with, was a sound system for an ice rink, that is the size of a mall, in aspen, colorado. it is a huge project, and also the celine dion project in vegas will hit us hard too, in the very near future. fortunately, the company has decided to purchase a me a pc w/ a 22" (minimum) monitor, and also autocad 2002, because of the fact that the existing plans were all done in autocad (industry standard for a good reason)and when you are sent dwgs with xrefs and ps/ms, VW just doesnt cut it. i will still have the mac for the fabrication drawings and our existing touring drawings. vectorworks is a great cad program, but it still has a LONG way to go to catch up with autocad. once again, i appreciate all the tips that were posted. they did get me out of a jam at work today, and hopefully at the meeting tomorrow morning, the clients will be impressed with the prints. thanks, Josh BickelAudio AnalystsColorado Springs, CO 80907Audio Analysts
  8. that makes sense if i understand you right. unfortunately, i'm at home right now, so i am unable to try it. i am assuming that i need to set the layer with the title block to a higher elevation. is that what you mean? i will try it in the morning. thanks for the reply.
  9. another issue that i have been experiencing, is that all of the text is gone after importing. any solution to that also?
  10. i know that this topic has been discussed, but i figured that i would bring it up again just to see if anyone has came up with a new solution. i know VW doesnt support paper space/model space. i'm trying to import a number of autocad drawings into vectorworks in order to update the plans. as you all know, the entire drawing imports and you then have to trim all of the unnecessary lines. needless to say, many architectural drawings can be extremely detailed and the trimming of lines is very tedious. i've tried to "mask" the unnecessary lines by drawing solid white rectangles with a white pen color. this does fix that problem, but creates another. whenever i try to place the titleblock on the drawing, the rectangles cover the titleblock. it is covered even though it is on a different layer and i have tried to use the send to front command, but that doesnt seem to help. is there anyone out there that might have some tips/advice? as of right now, this process is not efficient at all and is causing the company to lose money due to extra work that should not be required. vectorworks is a very easy program to use, but if we are wasting time and money, due to software issues, we will probably be forced to make the transition to autocad. hopefully, in future releases of vectorworks, it will support paper space/model space. 11. i have recently tried to attach a VW drawing to an email, but the receiver of the email is unable to open the file. i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem in the past. i've been told that the file has been turned into a .dat file. thanks in advanceAudio Analysts
  12. we have both of the training cds and i thought that they were a pretty good investment. the second cd covers walls, advanced 3d, hatches, creating scripts, worksheets & databases, setting up a drawing system, and workgroup referencing. to be honest, it has been a long time since i have used the cds, so i'm not exactly sure how many details were actually covered. i was also sent to the two training seminars and found them to be somewhat useful, but seemed to be geared towards new users. i would recommend getting the cds first. 13. if there are multiple sheets and each having a different view, should i export each individual sheet? in other words, if i have 4 sheets, i would need to have 4 different dwg/dxf files? i tried it with one view and then imported it back into vectorworks, and it seemed to work, but i havent opened the file in autocad. thanks for the tip.
  14. one more note on the topic. i would create layer links, but the guys that do the rigging prefer the drawings on 8.5 x 11 paper. having multiple views of an entire stage on an A size sheet of paper, wouldnt work very well.
  15. here is my problem. i will create multiple sheets for different views and have individual classes for dimensions on each sheet. printing to pdf and printing the drawings then faxing them is fine. the problem is when i need to export to a dwg to email the plans to other firms. when you open the files in autocad, all of the dimensions are in plan view instead of being projected in 3d. since the dimensions were created in different classes, they can be turned on and off in autocad. does anyone have any advice as to what we can do on our end to make things easier for the people that open the files in autocad. it is a hassle for the autocad users to rotate all of the text in order to have accurate drawings. any advice would be greatly appreciated. sincerely, Josh BickelAudio Analysts, Inc.3286 N. 16. i am a fairly new user of VW and i had a similar problem. i would double check to make sure that the items that arent rendering have a solid fill on them.
  17. WHEN I USE ASSOCIATIVE DIMENSIONS AND CHANGE THE OVERALL SHAPE OF A RECTANGLE, THE OVERALL DIMENSION OF THE RECTANGLE UPDATES FINE, BUT IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER FEATURES THAT ARE DIMENSIONED, MOST/ALL OF THEM WILL BE SKEWED ABOUT 10 DEGREES. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? I'M CURRENTLY USING 9.5.1 THANKS IN ADVANCE
