  1. Do you mean that only one layer is visible in autocad? In the meantine, I have changed the drawings to have no viewports and exported to autocad that way. The result was still not up to par in vectorworks 11, but when I converted to VW10, it worked just fine. Has anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions?
  2. Why would you want to dimension through the viewport? Would it not be easier to dimension, either on the same layer or on another layer and turn this layer or dimension class off or on in different viewports? The associative dimensioning works really well this way
  3. You can also try putting your plant layer in 'overlay' mode so that it is partially 'see through'. This can give some interesting effects. That is an option in hte layer dialogue box.
  4. I have found thta it is slow sometimes - especially with dimensions. The object info seems to disappear mostly after I have sent the drawing to print. has anyone else come across this?
  5. This is the firat time I have tried exporting a vectorworks file that uses viewports. I have not been able to open them up in Autocad Lt - the program freezes up. Is there any trick to exporting the viewports? When I try to import the drawing back into vectorworks, it is 'very' slow, there are extra lines in the viewports, some hatches didn't show up and some text blocks are blank. I may have to wait almost a minute for the drawing to regenerate. Is there a limit to the number of viewports we should use if we export?
  6. I have upgraded to 11.0.1 and still have some problems with the object info box. Sometimes, when I highlight an object, the object info box would say what that object is (line, polygon, viewport, etc.) but the rest of the box is empty, so I can't make any adjustments and get any info on that object, or any other object I select. This goes away temporarily when I restart the program, but comes back. Any ideas? I have only found this happens in 11.
  7. When I am copying a section of text from one block to either another block or to a new text block, it will not paste. I have upgraded to 11.0.1. This also occurred in 11.0. Is this a bug, or is there a way around this? Also, sometimes, the Object info box is blank when I highlight any object. When I restart the program, it works fine. I am not sure if this is still happening in 11.0.1, as I just downloaded the upgrade.
  8. If you only want to view the file, you can open autocad dwg files in adobe Illustrator, which is pricey enough if you won't use it for anything else. You need to reset the page parameters to show the whole drawing. Of course all the lines show up in the colours the autocad user has used. You could not import directly to any cad program from this, but you can probably make an image file.
  9. Thanks. Is it possible to set a distance for the control point as a default?
  10. In locating the ID tag, what do you mean by setting the control point? This may be my problem in getting the ID display to go to the right locations.
  11. HI What I have dome in the past is create plant symbols with black and white class, colour class and shadow class. When I want to show only black & white, I save the view with that class active and the others invisible. When I want the coloured plan, I save the view with the colour and/or shadow active and the black & white invisible. I used this prior to landmark coming out. Can we do this with the current symbols associated with the plant catalogue? This makes rendering in colour very easy and you only have to create and choose the colour once when selecting which symbol to use. Marietta
  12. I didn't get an answer to the above yet, but I have another question. Is there an easy way to align plant tags?
  13. Plant tag line weights: I used the following in Vectorworks 10 works to change the line weight of the plant tag, but I cannot find that command in 11. Where is it? 'You can customize this setting (full disclosure requires that I reveal this can be done in VW10 OR VW11). Open the Plug-in Editor (also known as the Create Plug-in.. command) and scroll to the Plant.VSO object. Highlight it and click the "Strings" button. Open string #4001. This string contains the lineweight of the plant tag in mils. Change this and it will change for all plants.' PLANT REFERENCE DATA BASE I can't get the data base I updated from 10 to be the default base in 11. How do I do this? PLANT LIST I figured out how to customize the plant list after speaking to John Altorio who does some beta testing. It would be a good idea to have the steps spelled out. If they are, they should be referenced to in the manual.
  14. I am trying the Landmark 11, I just got it today, to see what improvements are there. What I find most sluggish is modifying the plants once drawn, such as adding the labels, turning on or off boundaries, changing styles, and especially, modifying the polygons. I am hoping that the modifications in 11 will help. Another thing I think would be very helpful is an easy way to modify the plant list so that I can categorize the plants according to type and then in alphabetical order (trees, shrubs, ground covers, etc.). I know this can be done now, but it seems a bit tedious and I have not been successful in getting it right. I have also found that when modifying the plant data base through the plant catalogue, the plant descriptions do not always stay with the plant they are supposed to. This also seems to happen sometimes using the plant data base itself. If I put the category down as shrubs, sometimes the category becomes undefined instead. When I am using the plant catalogue, I define the plant first and then pick a symbol for it from the 2D symbol folder. Of course, the symbols have to be there first. I don't have too much of a problem with this setup and am starting to put together a template to start projects from. However, adding plants to the plant catalogue also seems to be sluggish and time consuming.
  15. Would using the 'Enable special processing for transparent colors...." use a lot of memory also? I have not tried this option. I believe I tried using an HP 800ps postscript driver with no luck at the printers - they are using a printer similar to that one. Would a generic postscript printer be any different? If so, how would I set one up? I just find it strange that the computer does not give me back the memory when I have quit the applications.
  16. Katie I know this option doesn't have the problems with we encountered with the standard way of producing pdf's through OSX - the output from the company we use for large format printing showed a light pattern wherever we used a white fill. I'm using this option through the OSX generation software. It is not the pdf files themselves that are the problem, but the process seems to take all the disk space away from the hard drive and doesn't give it back. For example, to create one pdf file that is about 2.5 MB in size, the process would use approximately 1/2 to 1 GB which can't be retrieved until I do a restart.
  17. I am using a G4, 400MHz Mac with 704MB RAM and system 10.3.3. I send pdf files to the printers for plotting. Originally, when I made pdf files through the vectoroworks program in the print dialogue box, the print out usually had toned areas wherever I used a white fill. Now with the Vectorworks 10.5, I use the Rasterize button in the print dialogue box (under Vectorworks 10.5 button). This gives a very good print result, but I am finding that after creating one or two pdf files, my hard drive partition is almost full - from 1.2 GB to 100MB. The pdf files are usually between 1 and 4MB in size. I need to restart my machine to free up the space. There is plenty of space in the other partitions where I store my project files, but I don't know if there is a way for the program to use this space when it runs out. Has anyone else come across this problem? I would have thought that after creating the pdf, the hard drive space would be back to where it waswithout needing to do a restart or shutdown.
  18. I use vectorworks exclusively for my projects, but generally don't use the planting aspects of Landmark. I too, find it too sluggish, and still find it easier doing it the old fashioned way by using a worksheet to count the plant symbols. I usually copy the symbols and plant lists from previous projects. The Landmark should be a great tool to use, but with many plants, it gets too cumbersome and I don't know how to organize the plant list the way I want or add colour the way I used to (by turning colour classes off or on within the plant symbols). Also, I have found that exporting these plants to autocad (when I have to), the plant symbols turn to lines which makes it very awkward to do anything in autocad with them. I am using a MAC G4, 400MHz with 704MB RAM
  19. IS THERE A WAY TO CHANGE THE LINE WEIGHT OF THE PLANT TAG DISPLAY AND POLYGON DISPLAY? AT A LINE WEIGHT OF ONE, IT DOES NOT PRINT OUT WELL. HAS THIS BEEN CHANGED IN 11? ALSO, SOMETIMES WHEN I RESHAPE THE PLANT POLYGONS, THE FONT CHANGES OR REVERTS BACK IF I CHANGED THE FONT AFTER I HAVE INPUTTED THE PLANTS. IS THIS NORMAL?
  20. I am using VWL 10.5.1B on MAC OS 10.3. It was also doing this on PC's using VW 10 (I don't know which version) when I was teaching VectorWorks. Mairetta
  21. Yes, that's right. All the plant symbols in the symbol folder disappears. The polant list still counts them, but if you try to modify the plants, they disappear. I can recopy them from a default file, but this shouldn't happen. Marietta
  22. It is not the preview that disappears but the symbols themselves in the symbol system folder under resources.
  23. Once in a while, the 2D plants symbols in the system folder disappears after I have used these symbols. I can see why unused ones would disappear if I purge the drawing. I know I can copy them back from a template drawing, but why would they disappear? If I modify these plants, the symbols disappear. I have noticed this on pc versions also (I use Mac). I have also noticed that the pc version has more default symbols than the mac version. I am still leary of creating my own symbols for use in Landmark, so I am sticking with the ones in hte program.javascript:void(0)
  24. Is it possible to be able to import and export Microstation drawings. Right now, it has to go through autocad as an intermediary.
