  1. I have asked this before. I don't think there is a way to rotate the plant tag permanently. You can rotate it, but if you adjust the plants or label, it will go back to horizontal. Rotating would be especially convenient when you have a rotated viewport.
  2. Check to see if the scale is the same on the referenced layers. One other thought is to make sure you don't accidentally change the insertion point or 0,0.
  3. I would like to know this also. How did you link the symbols or objects to a record? I think I may need to set up a new record to do this.
  4. I need to do the same thing. How do you set up the database headers so that it would find the objects you need the x and y coordinates for? I am assuming that if you give these objects a separate class, you can put that as part of the formula?
  5. Is Vectorworks looking at able to import and export directly to Microstation any time in the future? My understanding from talking to some Microstation operators, is that we share some commonalities that are lost when converting through autocad to exchange files. Our city has decided to use Microstation for all its cad work, so being able to exchange directly would be terrific. Our office is way too small to even consider using Microstation as a cad operating program.
  6. I do something similar to Connys when exporting. Sometimes, I do need the fills to be exported. The main problem I am having is with blocks and how they are exported. Because they are numbered automatically during the export, the autocad user may get conflicting blocks with the same number, if you give them an update or another file to insert. Also, one large file I am working on now gives the autocad user blocks where I can't find any in Vectorworks. Some of these blocks end up translating to the wrong location! I haven't tried exporting the design layers separately. Can this work at all if you want to save the sheets?
  7. When we print pdfs with transparent layers in our office, we do not have any problems. However printing them at the printers on a large scale printer seems to have many problems with the polygons and particularly with transparencies. The pdfs look fine on the screen but only prints part of the image (transparent objects do not print at all). Exporting the pdfs as quartz images seems to help sometimes, but not always. I don't know if printing directly from Vectorworks would be better - it is always easier to send the pdfs and control the output. Any thoughts? Imac OS 10.4.11 and Leopard using VW 12.5.3
  8. Is there any way to rotate the plant tag so that it aligns with a rotated viewport? I can make the grid and cross hairs to align in the grid box, but the plant tags do not seem to have any attributes to allow you to rotate. The same goes for the text callout tool. With a rotated viewport, these look bizarre, plus with a large plan, it is time consuming to have to add the plant tags manually, and there is more room for error in the numbers.

  10. Katie I restarted my compuer and used disk utility - so far so good! Maybe the read me notes should mention this. I always forget to try something like that. The application reads 12.5.3 and the files imported okay.
  11. NNA has released 12.5.3 to address these issues. We haven't updated to Leopard yet on all our computers, but have it on one to accomodate another program. I wanted to try 12.5.3 before getting Leoprad on the rest, but am having real problems with it on Tiger - it doesn't recognize some files and can't import autocad files. I haven't tried it beyond that - doesn't seem worth it. Maybe it is just for Leopard? Anyone else tried? I agree NNA is usually good with their upgrades.
  12. I have downloaded the update on my intel Imac with 10.4.10. It updated fine. The application still says it is 12.5.2 though, so I thought a t first it didn't work. The update is not behaving properly - can't open other 12 files easily and can't import autoad files. Haven't tried it beyond that and went back to 12.5.2 - hopefully successfuly.
  13. I downloaded the 12.5.3 update and installed on my intel Imac with 10.4.10 operating system (we are planning to update to Leoprad but want to check the VW update first). The 12.5.3 isn't working properly - it is not recognizing other version 12 files, and when I tried to import autocad files, they didn't import, but the same files do import properly with 12.5.2 Is this update just for Leopard? Has anyone else tried the 12.5.3 update?
  14. We have a file sent to us that has the text and associated lines on the same layer/class (example catch basin and text 'CB'). Is there a way to only select the text on that layer or class, without selecting the lines?
  15. When you creat a plant you can specify a class for the plant tag. If the class for the plant tag is given a grey colour, then the plant tags would be grey. Check this first. Go to the place plant tool and edit the p[lants. There is a box at the bottom for the class assignment for the plant tag.
  16. If your plant list is a gray box, is it open at the time?
  17. The only thing I can think of for #2 is to check if you have the data base headers showing. Click on the arrow in the upper left corner of your work sheet and check if this is marked, if so deselect it. Hope that works. Did you start off using one of the plant lists supplied in vector works? Such as plant list simple?
  18. I have had the same thing happen to me on the rare occasion. I don't know if it is the way I created the plant that became corrupt. The last time this happened, I was able to recreate that plant as a new plant and then substitute the plants on the drawing. When my plant became corrupt, The plant symbol disappeared on the drawing, but it still added it in the plant list. I can't remember, but I think I copied this plant from another file instead of creating a new plant in the drawing. Katie would this make any difference? Also, this was in version 12.5.1. What version are you using?
  19. It sounds like everything was drawn in one class 'none', which is the default class, and then exported to autcoad using the option to convert classes to layers, so you got everything on one layer. He can try exporting with the option to convert layers to layers, and see if that helps. But definitely, conversion should work with only minor annoyances, if any. Especially if you both have the latest versions. Katier's reply still holds - he needs to learn more about exporting.
  20. I have just started trying layer linking to rotate bases from autocad so that I can work on an easier rotation for labelling, etc. What happens when I have to send drawings to Autocad? Will everything go back to the original rotation? What about labelled objects, such as plant tags? These do not like to be rotated - they go back to horizontal and you can't label them in a viewport (not as I understand as part of the Landmark program). I'm also hoping this will come out shortly.
  21. I think the Rotate Draing from Vectorbits probably changes the coordinate system. Peter, I think your suggestion would work great until VW Provides that cabability. Thanks guys.
  22. When working on plans using a survey plan as a base (with north pointed to the top of the page), and in the world coordinate system, is there any way to rotate the working plane or screen without having to rotate the drawing? I know we can rotate in a viewport on a saved sheet, but I would like to work on the drawing in the design layers with a rotation that makes sense. On some projects it makes sense to keep the base in the world coordinate system for coordination and especially if the client wants it this way as an end product.
  23. In VW version 10 or 11, when you exported any groups into autocad, they became 'unamed blocks' and worked fine. Now, they become numbered. If I send over a number of files to an autocad user and they have to import these files into one base, you would probably have duplicate numbered blocks ( xreferencing all these files is not what is wanted here). So, lets say the first file has block 1. Any sybsequent files with groups would also have block 1, etc. in them. If these are inserted, all subsequent numbered blocks would be replaced with the first instance of the numbered blocks. In our office, we might give an autocad user a number of details in different files to include in their drawing giving them some very strange results, such as trees instead of pavers in a detail. Is there any way that we can have an option when exporting to have these groups become unnamed groups when converted to autocad? It hampers our use of VW when we have to adjust our drawing style when we need to export to autocad.
  24. I don't see any way of doing it other than copying ther layers on th ereferenced files directly into your main file and then deleting the referenced files. This could be a lot of workif you have a lot of referenced files.
