I use the wall tool to draw a good portion of my theatre architecture and scenic elements (how I was taught). When I export to dwg for some collaborators, all of the walls are not exported as 3D objects and are only visible in plan view. Is there something I can do to make them show up?

As a Scenic Designer I constantly have to design staircases, but with Spotlight, we only have 2 options: The railing that floats above a staircase (using the simple stair tool) or you have to build a clunky railing that maybe looks like you want it to. I got frustrated today seeing that such a tool exists, but only for Arch and Landscape. Please share the wealth.

I don't know how it happened... but the reference line was stacked on top of the reference I drew after it. I thought I'd try and see if I could find what the VP was looking at since there were lines there. It showed me a completely different object in the model on the other side of the stage. I looked to see if two reference lines were there - and alas there were. Moved the proper one back to its rightful place and BINGO. All is well. For now at least. Thanks!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having a problem that is associated with it: Working on a design of Noises Off - Box Set. I am to the point where I am setting up my sheet layers and dimensioning. All has been fine - for the most part. I'm not sure at when in the workflow, but something changed. All of the elevations (made using section viewports as has been discussed in this thread) were on the sheet, and I had dimensioned everything. I went to work on the next sheet of elevations, and went back to the previous sheet to double check something, once I got back to that sheet, one of the viewports was missing a wall - dimensions where there as annotations, and a few stray shapes that I couldn't identify. Thinking this was strange, I go back to the original sheet (plan view) to see if I had unintentionally moved the viewport reference (section line?) and it's not there. Nowhere to be found - whether selecting all, or using the custom selection tool. I didn't save, quit the program and reopened to see if that would fix it. No go. Quit again and shut down the computer (not restart), then rebooted, opened VW - still had missing info. Every other viewport and its reference is fine. I tried to create a new viewport and nothing. The problem isn't resolved. Any ideas? Thanks!

Of course! - I didn't know printing from PDF was best practice, so thanks! - I do have classes set up with specific colors and line weights, and I'm trying to override them in SLVP - think for things hanging overhead. In a ground plan I want them to be a thin, dashed line - but on other plates, like a section or elevation, I want them to be their normal solid line. - I'm not sure what you mean by color being affected. I leave color alone (since I publish in B&W) and I'm only changing line weight and type. Sometimes, the line weight and type override works in color mode, sometimes it doesn't. All of it reverts the minute I change it to B&W. - Zoom line weights isn't active. I have tried both ways to see if that was the problem. Thanks for your help!

Hi! I wasn't sure where to put this, so since I'm a designer, I thought I'd drop this in the entertainment realm. I'm having a lot of issues with class overrides when I'm setting up my sheets for publishing. One of the things that drives me a little nuts about drawing in 3D is that my line weights aren't what they "should" be (note that I learned hand drafting a while ago and many mentors were very strict about it.. so now I am too). SO - after learning about class overrides, I thought I had finally found the solution to my problems - alas, it only works part of the time and never works when I try to publish in black and white (whether it's to a PDF or to the Plotter), everything reverts back as if I hadn't done the override. Can anyone help me out on this? Am I missing something?

@printing girl For students, I imagine affordability has to be a consideration, as well as ease of use. I just purchased a Monoprice Select Mini about a month ago. It was ready to go the minute I pulled it out of the box and it was a reasonable price on amazon (around $300). The build plate is tiny, so I've had to work out how to piece some stuff together, but it's mostly ok since I primarily build 1/4" scale models. I have also used a Griffin 3D Pro Standard - it's a delta printer that seemed to work well, once we got it going. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, so buyer beware. It was also significantly more expensive at around $1200 ($1500 to buy it assembled). @BruceTheOriginal Also, I had another thought - when you're printing, try to make sure that your minimum size is about .5mm - like Kevin said, you might have to make adjustments that'll take stuff out of scale, but it makes the printer able to do it.

I'd like the ability to change the line weights of my dashed hidden line rendered files. I was trained in the old school of hand drafting so line weights still have meaning for me. It would be great to see this. Thanks.

I'm very interested in this topic too! I know it's been a while since anyone's posted to the thread. I work as a scenic designer for theatre and several of my colleagues still use AutoCAD. When I send them my VW turned DWG file none of the walls appear in any view except for top/plan (dwg equivalent?). Has there been a fix to this? Is there a way around it? Thanks!

The rotate 3D tool is made for this kind of stuff. Hope it worked out!
