  1. Post the image you want to use for the texture. I can take a look at it in a few hours when I get to a computer. Worst case, I can probably make a seamless texture with Affinity Photo
  2. the builtin brick shaded allows you to do all that if you don’t want to make a large seamless texture.
  3. The tool works fine in both versions. Seems like there is something else going on here.
  4. There are better tools for the job than Vectorworks. You can do this in Revit, Rhino, or Blender with ease. Of the 3, Rhino is probably the best bang for the buck for geometry, even considering Blender is free. Rhino + Grasshopper can get you some nice parametric solutions to these problems, and there are already several solutions freely available for this task in particular.
  5. Have you tried hovering over the wall tool and hitting ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA Select Start ? It designs your building for you and even makes correct stairs between levels with the power of AI. Seriously though, this is yet another reason this company needs to hire a competent UIX designer. There are no icon ques or text hints on most of these features. Training rarely mentions such features. It's like you have to be a member of Service Select Secret Decoder Ring Club to become aware of this stuff... Meh.
  6. Are they on different design layers by chance?
  7. That’s an image, not geometry correct? His file has the geometry in it….
  8. I think this company prefers redesigning the UI to confuse long time users so we can’t complain about tools like this not being fixed release after release…
  9. Minor correction, seems easier if the pattern is a thin extrude instead of a 2D extrude because the tool doesn't like to bend complex 2D either. I am surprised how well VWX was able to create this form 6 bends. Do the profile view first, then bend the plan view thru 90 degrees of a circle to match your bench. I did my own pattern to test these ideas quickly. Maybe your design could be simplified by using a texture as well? Surprised it handled these warped circles so well. Same geo, different texture and view.
  10. If you simplified your pattern to 2D lifework 1st, this might be doable with a few Deform/Bend operations. The attached image illustrates this with a simple extruded rectangle, which you would replace with a 2D extrude of your pattern. Unfortunately, I believe your 3D pattern geometry is too heavy for Vectorworks to Bend easily. Once the 2D pattern was Bent, you could push/pull it to create a little depth, if the geometry wasn't too heavy or self intersecting. It's bedtime on the west coast...
  11. @LuukW Your bench is a non developable surface, so you are likely limited to texturing or doing multiple projections to get the result you want. I'm curious if others have an appropriate VWX solution to this. If you have Rhino, you could probably do it with FlowAlongSrf or the Paneling Tool.
  12. just delete the stuff that is covered by the NDA, purge, and save as a new file. You’ll have to verify the issue still happens on the cleaned file and tell us what version of VWX you are using.
  13. and thank goodness it did. This should be a mandatory watch for anyone in UI design.
  14. Blender... It's the answer to most questions on this forum 🙂 Check this out LOL.... I guess they changed with the times and adopted "textures", but forgot to update their website's html 🙂 This would be consistent with what the company is already doing by changing the UI on us or removing important features like color wheels 🙂 Really, bringing the software into "compliance" with the design language of the rest of the industry makes it easier to convert people to customers. I mean they changed the program's icon shape to match Apple's new conventions, so clearly some things matter to them 🙄. We've all heard new people in our offices or here on the forums moan about how archaic or foreign the software is, and thusly difficult to learn. Old dogs here tell these young dogs to learn new tricks, instead, the young dogs go looking for treats from other masters. Soon, there will only be old dogs here and it will look like a Form Z forum.
  15. post your file and let’s have a look. What version are you using?
  16. as a former long time AutoCAD user, we use(d) xrefs in the same capacity as Vectorworks Layers. I prefer Vectorworks obviously, but the VWX naming convention does conflict with most major softwares, hence confusion. @Tom Klaber For rendering, Materials is a term that is inclusive of a Texture map, but encompasses much more such as how the material behaves in different lighting, rendering, and physics engines. A Texture is a small, but very visible, portion of the definition that defines the look of a Material, regardless of what people name their websites 🙂 Look at technical education and most books published on rendering prior to YouTube hacks ruining technical language… Materials is the correct term…
  17. Can you post the dwg and VWX files? there could be several things causing the problem and the quickest way to diagnose is to look at the file.
  18. 100% agree. Vectorworks nomenclature causes more problems than it solves. Instead of updating UIs all the time, maybe bringing the software in compliance with industry "standards" for identifying things would be more useful, especially for those potential new customers coming from one of the other platforms. Maybe just copy Blender's terms as an example 🙂
  19. mare you just trying to show the plan view of the wall depicting framing or are you literally wanting to show the studs and their positions. if the former, then you can do it with classes and put your components on classes that are not the container class for the wall. You can then turn off the components you don’t want to see, leaving the framing and container class on. If you want to show the studs, @bcd’d idea works or you are going to have a lot of graphic embellishments to do.
  20. I guess I'm not understanding your issue. For as long as I can remember, exporting or publishing a Sheet Layer or Saved View has demonstrated this behavior. I just opened up 2021 to see if that was the case and it was, though the interface has changed somewhat since then. So, when was the last time and version you saw it behave differently than it is now?
  21. You must have selected a Sheet Layer to export. If you export Design Layers, the option is available. That's the way it has been working.
  22. Yes to this. I have folders on my desktop for storing backups for a variety of programs and a place to deposit screen shots. Fridays, I take a quick look at those folders and delete the unneeded before the big weekend backup.
