  1. 3d modelers may not appreciate this feature but architects and engineers like myself certainly do. The main reason for this is to create construction plans which are representational in nature. For example, we don't need to see door knobs and hinges in our doors when drawn in our floor plans since only a line and arc would suffice. As a result, we can have a much more detailed 3d model without cluttering up our working drawings with unnecessary details. hope this clears things up. ariel
  2. Anyone know how I can order the plug-in online? I've already emailed maxonshop two weeks ago and have yet to receive a reply. ariel
  3. I believe Fredrik is asking how he can create scale-independent plug-in objects similar to the drawing label and reference marker tools. ariel
  4. I've asked this before and didn't get any answer from NNA: Why can't VW do OpenGL rendering with shadows while Sketchup can? Ariel
  5. If you're dealing with only one rectangle, one workaround would be to convert your rectangle into a symbol. A better solution would be to use the rotated rectangle PIO which you can get at Vector Depot. hth, Ariel
  6. Hi Bob, Have you tried using the walkthrough tool? Ariel
  7. > The HyperNURBS in C4D are actually nothing more that a polygon tesselator. Same thing exists in LightWave, Max, Maya, XSI and a lot of other applications. It has nothing to do with NURBS. Great tool for producing visuals, but not usable for design (where precission is required). I, for one, would still like to see the functionality of C4D's HyperNURBS inside VW. I've been studying this online tutorial (http://www.7thchamber.com/tutorials/Chev/) on how to model a car using C4D and am very much impressed with the ease on how the shapes were modeled and reformed. It would be interesting to see how a VW modeler would approach the same problem. Ariel
  8. OS9.2, which is the required minimum for the VW10.5 updater, is not supported on my g4-upgraded powermac 8500. Does this really mean that I'm now stuck using VW10.1.2? Ariel

    Press Release

Very excited to see the new powerpack features! Its not difficult to guess the inspiration for the protrusion/cutout tool. Just a quick question: how editable will the protrusion/cutout be after the process? How easily can I delete, resize or move it around the solid's surface?
  10. quote: Katie, you might suggest to the folks at NNA seriously get together with SketchUp with regards to 3D modeling, ease of use and intuitiveness SketchUp draws it "ease of use and intuitiveness" primarily from its limited number of tools and commands --- which I believe would be several steps backward for VW. Accurate 3d modeling and editing is still very much faster in VW. A better suggestion would be to assist the SketchUp folks to speed up development of a VW plugin for their software. (I believe an plugin for Archicad is already available.)
  11. Yup. I called up my former officemate and he confirmed what I was saying is indeed true. Their current setup uses VW 9, Win2k and an epson photo sylus printer (although I remember being able to do it on an HP laser printer as well). I can even recall asking myself why I couldn't do that on my Mac back then. ariel
  12. quote: you must mean the 'print current view only' button in the print dialog box pull down menu (?) yes, i do. What I meant was if I set my print area to two letter size sheets, I expect to print the current view with two sheets not one. I want to avoid having to manually pan through my drawing, to get what I want. Very tedious when I have multiple views to be printed out. ariel
  13. I can recall an instance wherein I was able to print the current view spread out across two or more pages using VW9. Is this still possible in VW10 or was I just dreaming? Ariel
  14. Ok, count me in as one eager to see the translation. Ariel
  15. Hi Matthew, The link seems to be broken. Where can I download your autoupdate script. tia, Ariel
  16. Hi BaRa, Could you please check your link. I still can't access the movie. thanks. ariel
  17. I believe the only way to make a submission is to email the file (admin@vectordepot.com). ariel
  18. Hi BaRa, Could you please repost the movie at the Vector Depot website? I missed it. thanks. Ariel
  19. Does Renderworks offer a similar feature as Artlantis' fencing and holes? This has been a great timesaver for me --- that's one reason which keeps me from using any other renderer but artlantis. ariel
  20. Our local distributor doesn't distribute evaluation cd's of VW. Wouldn't it really be possible to download its image file instead? I have a dsl connection so I don't mind the download size. regards. Ariel
  21. I think I read a similar post and one of the suggestions was to use the workgroup referencing feature wherein you assign each group of objects to its own class. You can reference your original file and manipulate your patterns via class assignments in the second VW file without actually modifying the original. Haven't really tried this but its worth a shot. ariel
  22. somewhat related to Katerina's original post, does mgSimplify or another keyboard macro utility allow you to make two-key combinations as well? Wouldn't it be great to assign the command, ctrl or shift keys to one of the function keys such that when I, for example, press F5, release, then press L would be like pressing the ctrl+alt+L combination? I have Quickeys on the mac and I don't think it can do that. ariel
  23. I have to agree with Bruce. It can be frustrating and disappointing to realize how complicated my project "has" to be after going through the setup assistant. It really takes the "fun" out of using VW. Wish I felt the same about the software as during the Minicad days. (sigh) I'm also interested in how the others do it because the SA doesn't work for me. Ariel
  24. yes, that's right, Katie. thanks for reminding me. So does this mean that assigning double-keys for the other unused keys wouldn't be difficult to implement? how about triple-keying? ariel
  25. or how about a simple double-tap (or even triple-tap) on a key as another modifier. IMHO, this is much easier than using keyboard combinations. ariel
