  1. Here's a technique that works for me to reference worksheets.

Build your worksheet in your source file, show it on a layer - any layer, select the visible worksheet image, and creat a symbol of it. You can then selsct the box to not show it if you want.

In your target file (which references your source file), import the symbol. It brings its worksheet along with it. You can then show it on any layer, just like any other worksheet.

Whenever you update the target file's references ( by opening it or manually) you will be asked if you want to replace the worksheet; do it. This updates it from the source file.

  2. I am using VW 8.5.2

After creating a 3D object and giving it a fill or texture, performing an action such as Convert to Mesh, Solid Subtraction, etc., resets its fill/texture back to None. The program seems to treat the altered object as a container object, starting its attributes from scratch. This is extremely annoying, precluding altering an object without undoing carefully oriented texture setups. Has this behavior been corrected in any of the 9.x versions?

Correcting this would be especially useful for walls, etc., which can have different textures for right, left, and center. If a Solid Subtraction is done on such a wall, the resulting object reverts to None, but on entering the object to edit it, it is apparent that the original wall still has its original attributes. Why can these not be expressed in the final object? As before, has this been fixed in any of the 9.x versions?

    Thanx in advance

  3. First, make sure you are printing hi-res in page setup. Pull down File>Page Setup. In pull down @ upper left select the Vectorworks item, click high ersolution printing and select a resolution.

A good thing the check first.

  4. This looks like a job for the 2D RESHAPE TOOL (one of the more useful tools around). To stretch a room, keeping all the wall joins intact, select the wall and the walls it joins with. Then, using the 2D reshape tool, draw a marquee (marquis?) around the wall to move. drag the wall or use the Move command to move it a certain distance. You can stretch rooms, move wall locations, etc. this way while keeping the wall joins.

Useful tool. Select objects, draw the marquee around the handles you want to move, and move that selection. All joins stay connected. Hold down the option key (Mac) when using the 2D reshape tool to turn it into a lasso, to make a non-rectangular selection.

    Whew!

  5. I've run into the same problem occasionally, when editing polygons with associative hatches. Add Surface or Clip Surface will leave the hatch with seemingly random lines missing. Refreshing the image doesen't correct it. Making additional changes will result in DIFFERENT lines disappearing.

I usually recreate the finished polygon with None fill, then apply the hatch.

    > Go to this following link - it is from Owens Corning and has downloadable stone textures that are "tileable".

Got it open w/ Explorer 5.

Sorry to appear dim, but now what?

I don't know what a VIZ compatable program is. If I try to drag a selected texture to an open Vectorworks

doc., nothing happens. If I copy and paste, all I get is a copy of the web page button image - not useful.

There also appear to be links to images of other materials, but I can't seem to select them.

I would really appreciate any help in using this resource.

    Thanx in advance.

  7. Try it again, and before zooming (and making the group disappear), note in the Object Info pallete what class the group is. Then check in the Class pull-down whether that class is set to not display. When you group the objects, you might be setting them to an invisible class.

Try going to Class pull-down > Classes... and setting all classes to visible, then checking whether your groups reappear.

  10. Snide answer: Because a some of the cool stuff that used to be included with VectorWorks has been pulled out of VW9, and if you upgrade you need to buy one of the add-on packages, like Architect, to get them back.

  12. While I have not seen it yet myself, I have heard that some capabilities/items that are in VW 8.5.2 (such as DTM) have heen removed from VW 9, and purchase of an add-on, such as Architect or Landmark, is required to get them back.

To what extent is this the case, and does anyone have a list of the items removed?

  13. This is std. procedure in our office. Draw your plan, manually cut out the area you want to blow up (a toilet room, for example), and paste it into another layer of the same scale. With that layer and your main plan layer visible, they appear as 1 plan, but the cut-out layer can be linked to a layer with a larger scale, be referenced, or whatever. If you want the enlarged plan in a different file, reference the cut-out layer into an invisible layer, and layer link it to a larger scale layer.

  14. The problem of arrowheads on arcs in groups switching ends when the group is flipped has been noted before. Also, if a symbol contains an arc with an arrowhead and the symbol is flipped, the arrowhead will change ends (instead of pointing to a detail, will now point away from it, for example).

I hope these problems will be taken care of in VW 9.
