  1. dual G4, OSX.1.2, vw9.5, 800+mb ram. When holding down the Option key and dragging, VW selects everything the marquee touches as it should. But, if I try to add to the selection by holding down the Shift key (or Shift+Option) and selecting additional items, VW will de-select some of the previously selected items. This is not consistent with prior VW performance nor with Mac interface standards. This makes it near impossible to select multiple items efficently. Any ideas?
  2. That's Trajan, not Tragan. American Heritage Font was also a problem.
  3. Just another little input into this ongoing problem... Before OSX, adding or otherwise changing fonts in the System Folder/Fonts simply required relaunching any particular Application (program) in order to register the font into that App. It was not necessary to restart the entire machine. One of the things I think I've determined is that under OSX, fonts may or may not become active or inactive just by moving them in or out of the System Folder. I've gotten really inconsistent results with the pre-OSX routine, but consistent results if I actually restart the machine. Not a workable solution, but a least a possible clue to what's going on. In the meantime, I've concluded that removing all traces of Adobe Tekton and Tragan from my 9.2.2 System Folder allows 9.5 to run smoothly under OSX.1.2 and open 8.5.2 version drawings with the font-mapping substitute of Arial Narrow for Tekton (any font would do, but Arial Narrow is closest acceptable substitute for me). Tekton was apparently the culprit re: Vectorworks, and Tragan had to go because of MSOfficeX.
  4. Thanks for the input. My Tekton font is Type 1 (old enough to have come on an 800k floppy which modern readers won't recognize). ATM 4.6.1 (not ATM Deluxe, but the free version control panel) is only used by 9.2.2, not X.
  5. What does "gobo" mean? Is it an ancronym (for what)?
  6. ATM 4.6.2 I thought I'd isolated the problem to Tekton, and that does still seem to be a factor, but MSOfficeX sometimes will and sometimes won't start with Tekton PS icons and Suitcase in System Folder and likewise, vw9.5 will sometimes open the 8.5.2 drawings and sometimes won't. And there's a problem with some forms of Tekton (oblique, but varies) appearing and printing bit-mapped both in 8.5.2. It feels more like a font and operating system problem than something caused by VW. I've tried all combinations of what's in Sys.Fold. and what's not. No absolute certainty as to what's the problem determined yet. Anybody else having problems? Anyway, it's enough of a problem and unreliable that it looks like I'll have to run 9.5 under OS9.2.2 (startup, not classic) - which seems to run OK, it just doesn't allow me use the advantages of OSX.
  7. One more thing. Thanks MikeB for the font mapping suggestion. Removing Tekton from the System Folder/Fonts and then mapping a substitution using the VW Preferences/Display tab/Edit button allows the otherwise corrupted drawing to open OK in 9.5, much easier.
  8. A follow-up to my earlier post. Tekton font was the culprit, but VW 9.5 apparently didn't have anything to do with it. When I tried to launch MSOfficeX every one of the applications would crash right after the splash screen. MS web site for Mac (Mactopia) had top level link to crashing problem description - corrupted or unsupported fonts. But no info on what to do about it. I played with removing and replacing fonts from and to my System Folder/Fonts and suddenly everything works in both vw9.5 and msOfficeX. Why, I have no idea because it looks like everything is right where it was before, but now it works. I did not reload Tekton (it's on a floppy), but simply moved it and moved and back (both PostScript and True-Type icons). Anyway, it works now.
  9. Here's a different font-based problem. dual G4 450 800+mb ram, vw9.5.0 under OSX.1.2 with OS9.2.2 sys. folder on same partition. When opening vw8.5.2 drawings in 9.5.0 vw will crash if Adobe Tekton is used in drawing. My typical drawings contain Optima, Tekton, and Helvetica fonts. No problem with any font other than Tekton. Drawing will open in 9.5 is Tekton is on hidden layer, but will crash instantly upon trying to make layer with Tekton visible. Every drawing I need to carry forward into 9.5 must have Tekton text changed to something else. Fortunately, I am able to run 8.5.2 in OS9 (classic mode) while 9.5 is running simultaneously under OSX. This allows me to open the original drawing in vw8, make the changes, close, reopen the drawing in 9.5, convert, and save as 9.5. What a pain. Otherwise, compliments to the programming staff for having cleaned up the 9.0-1 mess. 9.5 on OSX looks great, rendering is much faster, some things still slow (ex: redraw with pict images included) and my cursor tends to permanently disappear every now and then when trying to run both versions simultaneously requiring a restart of the entire system (even under OSX!). At least I've stopped seriously looking for another CAD package. VW is still the best for me. ? ?? ?? ??

  11. Maybe I've been missing something all these years but I've never needed RIP software. Is it because I've never printed to anything larger than an Epson 1520's 13.5" x 22"? I've always simply selected the appropriate printer in the Mac's Chooser, adjusted the Page Setup properties (and Print Area, etc. if needed) and told it to Print. My Mac connects directly to the printer via a USB hub.
  12. Which brings up the question: What percentage of VW seats are now Windows? This application started out Mac-only and was so successful the WinTel world couldn't resist. Bravo.
  13. Bring back, O bring back, O bring back my trim and extend tools to me.
  14. If NNA won't pay attention to the abilities of my dual G4 machine, I'll find a CAD program that will! I've been here since back in the Blueprint days, really like VW/RW integrated 2D/3D/rendering, and don't want to change CAD. But SPEED REALLY MATTERS.

  16. After removing VW/RW9 from my machine over a month ago, my copy now also sits on the shelf waiting NNA to straighten this out. I really don't want to leave VW/RW. The integration of 2D/modeling/mapping/rendering all in one powerful easy-to-use (or was) product is great. But you are running me away too. Why do I have to send in a post-card to register a product I bought directly from you after being a registered customer for 10 years? I have not even received the printed RW manual yet. Fortunately, I can simply continue to use 8.5.2. A great program. Too bad I can't take advantage of whatever new good stuff does exist in 9.
  17. Been using Epson 1520 with G3 & G4 Macs. Very pleased with price/performance. Must live within 13.85" x 22" max. printing area. Use pre-cut A2 size sheets ($22? for 30 sheets from Epson Store, Internet).
  18. I'm still waiting also.
  19. Sorry, I failed to mention that I also am running VWA9 on Mac OS9.1 and printing to an Epson 1520
  20. Just yesterday I printed a document originally created in VW8.5.2 and then revised in VWA9. After I had fax'd the printout to the owner I noticed at least one dimension line with arrowheads that no longer touched the marker line at each end. Silly me, I thought it was because of something I had done. Guess I better look more closely at ALL the dimension lines.
  21. Per a long an informative posted commentary by a Diehlgrapsoft high-up sometime back, VW would not directly use the Mac's G4 Velocity Engine or dual processors because Renderworks uses Quicktime, and therefore since QT is MacOS native, VW does take advantage of Velocity and dual-processors. Now I see a post that says RW9 does not use Quicktime. What's the story now re:VW/RW9 using the Mac's Velocity and dual-processor capabilities?
  22. It would be great if we could use something like IBM ViaVoice (or other) for voice control of menu commands. I find myself saying the commands in my head as I physically hit the keys anyway, so why not just do away with the physical bit.
  23. Follow-up to my recent lengthy post. Though I thought I had trashed all copies of Blueprint and MiniCad - I was wrong. Trashing all prior versions cured the problem. For Engineering: I created a new VW 8.5.2 document, saved, closed, and quit. VW is not running at this point. Double-clicking on the new document icon caused MiniCad to attempt to launch instead of VW. System and VW folders are on an internal hard-drive. The new VW document and older MiniCad folder were on a separate external hard-drive. Identical problem and circumstances with opening Photoshop image. Seems like a Mac problem, not VW. Bottom line: trash all former versions of any software for which you use a newer version.
