  1. Gimp-Print + OSX.2 does allow the 1520 to work again, but I cannot seem to get anything other than the letter, legal, & A4 size sheets. I too created a custom paper size (13.85 x 22) set under "Any Printer"in the Page Setup dialog box. The 1520 was then chosen in the Print dialog box, but the printed area was still just letter size corresponding to the page area bounding box shown in the VW window. How did you get the custom paper size to work? Thanks. It will be great to get this 1520 going again.
  2. The high CPU usage when VW is the active app has been noted by others. So far, no one has offered an explanation as to why VW apparently behaves this way. If just sitting there doing nothing uses 50%+ of the CPU cycles, what's left for doing real work? Half, or less, of our CPU power? Anybody have any info? As to why your CPU usage drops to near Zero when another window is brought to the front: the CPU usage drops because activating another applications' window makes that the active app, not VW. And then, all is right with the world again.
  3. $450 to upgrade VWA & Renderworks 9.5 to 10 - YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!! Even though I paid for VW9, 8.5.2 continues to look just fine to me.
  4. I've posted regarding this in the past - no comment from NNA. As long as VW is the active window, even if absolutely nothing is being done, both of my processors (dual 450 G4 Mac) indicate 80%+ use. Activate any other open application window and the CPU Monitor gauge instantly drops to minimal usage. What's going on?
  5. Katie-Shift+click works OK to add to selection,Shift+Option+Click does not (de-selects previously selected items). Bob RoeslerMac OS 10.1.5VW 9.5.2CarbonLib 1.6 (but that doesn't have anything to do with OS 10x (or does it?) The Shift+Option+Click behavior of 9.5.2 is one of the main reasons I still use 8.5.2 as precise selection of multiple items in complex drawings is a daily need. I have posted several time regarding this. Thanks for looking into what I consider a problem, though others have said it is not.
  6. TC - I have both 8.5.2 and 9.5.2 on my Mac. I still draw primarily in vw8 for a number of reasons. In vw8, ColorSync shows up as one of my colorspace choices for selecting colors. When ColorSync is selected, the color swatch choices are Pantone (by name and number) with option for coated and uncoated paper. However, ColorSync does not show up in vw9. Since I use vw8 mostly, I hadn't noticed the difference. ColorSync is standard Mac software and if installed, apparently shows up automatically in vw8. I'll have to experiment to find out why it doesn't show up in vw9.
  7. If you're on a Mac (and maybe Windows, I don't know) you can install the Pantone library and that will show up as one of your color space choices when you edit the color pallet in the Modify Attributes-Color Pallet window. Not sure where I got the Pantone software, I think it came with the Mac or maybe Photoshop. Anyway, I created a custom color pallet calibrated to my main printer years ago and visually organized it to suit me. I left about 1/4 of the spots on the pallet blank so I could custom assign a specific color to a location on the pallet as I created specific colors for specific drawings. I find it useful to be able to import the color pallet from any drawing into any other drawing via the Modify Attributes.
  8. I use a 6"x9" pad all the time, but primarily in Photoshop where non-linear and is the norm and pin-point accuracy is usually not required. For cadd, I use the a Kensington TurboMouse (has the ball on top and 4 programmable keys, Macintosh) because it is much easier to move the cursor to exactly the point on the screen I want and the keys are a great replacement for keyboard shortcuts (delete, join, undo, trim, are just a few).
  9. I haven't even been able to figure out to get the 9.5.2 version of the Cloud Tool to work. Yet another reason I still work primarily in 8.5.2.
  10. Hip, Hip, Hooray Finally, after more than six months of trying to get some attention regarding this matter. Thanks to all for generating enough comments to get some response. I vote for allowing either method via a preference selection.
  11. To follow long-standing Mac interface standards, holding the Shift key down while selecting is supposed to ADD TO the selection - whether by individual click, "surround" marquee, or "contact" marquee doesn't matter. This is and always has been one of the fundamental interface standards consistent across all Mac applications. Why would you change this.
  12. I fax'd Epson to support requests for a 1520 driver for OSX. Here's part of their mailed response: "Epson has no plans to develop a driver for the model. Please keep in mind that not all features of the printer are supported in OSX, i.e. paper sizes, and built in storage devices". Can someone shed some light on the comment regarding paper size?
  13. I've posted regarding this problem twice, others have also. This is a major problem. Look under old subject "Please follow Mac interface standards" (or something like that). Your description of the problem is accurate. dual 450mhz G4 823mb ram dual monitors (ATY,Rage6ag)&(ATY,Rage128y)
  14. Mac dual G4 450, 832mb RAM, OS 10.1.5, dual screens (CRT & LCD) with all the latest updates of everything so far as I know and VW 9.5.2. Here's another similar (?) problem:I created a simple drawing including linework with color fills and imported PICT images. To print, I have to Save and restart my computer in OS 9.2.2 so I can use my Epson 1520 printer using A2 size paper. I then open the doucment in 9.5.2 under OS 9.2.2. Everything goes OK through Page Setup and Print dialog boxes including setting print quality to Photo Quality Inkjet Paper, 720 dpi, etc. Problem is, it prints looking like 360dpi quality on plain paper, and the Print dialog box does not "remember" any of the settings - it has reverted to 360dpi Plain Paper. After numerous tests of all sorts of different combinations within 9.5.2 I finally exported the document to VW 8 format, opened it under 8.5.2, and voila, everything works as it should- i.e. it printed at 720dip (smooth fills) and the Print Dialog box "remembered" the settings. So it appears the problem is with VW9.5.2 not recognizing the Print Setup (dialog) inputs. Yet another reason I must continue to work in 8.5.2. I have wasted untold hours struggling to work efficiently in post-8.5 versions. For me, upgrading (9.0, 9.1, 9.5, 9.51, 9.52) has still not been worth it even though it means not taking advantage of all OSX has to offer. Any help would not only be appreciated, but will eventually determine whether-or-not I purchase the next upgrade or just grin and bear with 8.5.2 from hereon.

  16. Katie, thanks for your reply, and for your attention to the bulletin board over the past few months. It is indeed nice to get a reasonably rapid response to posted comments. However, I must beg to differ with you on this issue. I have been a user (on Mac) since the Blueprint 4 days and have thousands of hours of time working with the program. When 9.0 came out the functionality described in my original post changed. As a test to verify I'm not crazy I have created identical documents in 8.5.2 and 9.5.1. Each document contains a simple series of parallel lines and text notation of the line weights. In 8.5.2 and 9.5.1 option-dragging will select anything the marquee touches, as it should. In 8.5.2 if you then shift-option-drag over the existing selection and addtional objects it will add the new items and not deselect the previous (as it always has). However, in 9.5.1 if you shift-option-drag over any portion of the previous selection it will de-select any object previously selected (as you agree). This is a change between 8.5.2 and later versions and is not consistent with long-standing Mac standards. In all Mac applications, holding down the shift key will add to the existing selection. I personally find this one erratic behavior frustrating enough (in combination with Epson's 1520 not working under OSX or even Classic) that I continue to use 8.5.2 under OS9.2.2. Please request the engineering team to consider returning the standard Mac operation functionality of shift-+ selection adding to the existing selection, not deselecting. I can't believe I am the only user that finds this a problem. Response by NNA to a previous post on this subject indicated the function was changed as described because of user request. If any other users out there have an opinion on this, please post a response.
  17. Option-drag to select any object touched works fine, but trying to add to the selection by holding down the Shift key and Option-dragging will deselect anything previously selected. This is terribly frustrating and contrary to long-standing Mac standards. Please, reconsider going back to the standard mode as implemented in VW prior to v9. Thanks.
  18. I may be wrong about this, but I think import "pict" is intended for greyscale images while "pict as picture" is for color. Maybe NNA can clarify.
  19. Epson does not provide a driver for the 1520 under OSX, not even in Classic mode. What a bummer! Because of this problem and in conjunction with Adobe Teckton font preventing VW8.5 drawings opening in VW9.5 and VW9.5 not following Mac interface conventions for option-drag and shift+ selections, I personally continue to use VW8.5 running in Classic and then print to the 1520 from a separate Mac running OS9x. I keep my drawing files on an external Firewire drive and simply hot-swap the Firewire drive between Macs to print.
  20. To UserName: How did you get your Epson 1520 to run under OS X? I haven't seen any indication Epson will make a driver for it for X. Bob Roesler
  21. Check out VersionTracker for OSX "Windowshade X". It's a shareware ($7 or $15, can't remember), but well worth the money.
  22. Can anybody explain to me how this "change" is for the better? Not being able to make multiple selections can't possibly be better than being able to. VW won't evenly consistently select (or deselect) the same elements. This is not a change, this is a BUG! Fighting with something as fundamental as being able to multiple select is ridiculous. All Mac applications have this basic ability. Forget 9.5, I'm going back to 8.5.2 even though it means giving up OSX (for now). I've got work to do.
  23. dual G4 450, vw9.5, OSX.1.2, 800+mb ram: One nice side benefit of OSX is the CPU Monitor - real-time bar graphs indicating CPU usage. Dual CPU machines have a graph for each CPU. I have noticed that when a VW document is active (even if there is nothing in the document and even if I am not doing anything) both CPUs are running at 50% - 90% of capacity. The Process Viewer verifies this. Why does it take that much CPU power just to keep VW alive? None of my other applications even come close to consuming this kind of processing power when nothing is going on. 9.5 is much more sluggish doing such things as "select all" or "deselect all" than 8.5.2. Can we expect to see improvement in this area in future VW releases?

  25. That's real interesting. Like the Trim Tool fiasco, this change (? or bug ?) has damaged the usefullness of VW. I've had to resort to creating a new invisible layer and move the selected items to it piece-by-piece via the Layer drop-down on the Info pallet just to be sure I picked up all the pieces I need, and then move everything back off the invisible layer as a selection to the active layer - what a pain!!! Overall, 9.5 on OSX is nice, but this is ridiculous. Riding this new setup is a roller-coaster of highs and lows. Sorry I missed the earlier posts regarding this.
