Hiya! It states that it crashes at the VWGraphicsModule (though I may be misreading), so I would assume it's graphics card related. Would you be able to send us more information on your machine? If possible, please use the System Report on your Mac to share your system specs, and we'll take a look at what we can do. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203001 If you have the file/files that is/are crashing, that'd be handy as well. Hope to hear more on this soon!

Problems updating Vectorworks 2010 Update SP4
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to flowerpower's question in Troubleshooting
Hmm, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm assuming it might be gone (I think this happened for one of the older SP updaters, I believe). I believe the SP3 installer should work for VW2010, but am unsure if any others will at this time. I'll keep an eye out and keep you posted should I find something, but no guarantees. -
Problems updating Vectorworks 2010 Update SP4
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to flowerpower's question in Troubleshooting
Hiya! Are you running into these troubles when downloading the Service Pack, or when running the Service Pack (after it's been downloaded)? If it's the former, then you may want to try using the following download page to get another copy of the installer. If the download fails, you could try downloading with another browser, or an incognito/private window. http://www.vectorworks.net/downloads/ServicePack?major=2010&servicepack=4&language=1 If you're running into troubles when running that installer, that could be a bit more tricky. We might want to try right clicking the installer, and then running as administrator. I hope that's of some help, and let me know how it goes! -
Trouble with creating seating aisles
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to kcraft's question in Troubleshooting
Hiya! I'm able to replicate this when using a Seating Layout, but was unable to do it with a Seating Section (couldn't clip surface). If you try using the Seating Section, does the same issue happen? If using the Seating Layout, isn't there an option to Focus at the Front in the OIP? -
Spotlight Preferences not opening
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to Keylight Design's question in Troubleshooting
I haven't ran into this myself, but just heard of someone else running into it. I would assume resetting preferences would work, and am bummed to hear that didn't do it! You could try reverting to SP2, but to do that, you'd need to uninstall VW 2018, then reinstall with the VW 2018 SP2 installer (there's no way to push it back just one version, sadly.) Links for Mac and Windows below. Mac Installer | http://release.vectorworks.net/nnapub/mac/2018/SP2/401138/NNA/eng/installer2/Vectorworks2018-SP2-401138-SeriesE-installer2-osx.dmg Windows Installer | http://release.vectorworks.net/nnapub/win/2018/SP2/401138/NNA/eng/installer2/Vectorworks2018-SP2-401138-SeriesE-installer2-win.zip Let me know if that helps. I'll keep you posted if I find any fix on my end, and let me know if you're able to replicate this in SP2. -
Hi again! Sorry, thought I replied to this. I believed it showed all the currently available functions, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more available. I don't know of any, though. My apologies!

Strange Polyline behaviour when using Smartpoints
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to markdd's question in Troubleshooting
Ah, yup! It's a Mac thing. Happens for me on Mac, but not on Windows. I thought I was just going crazy, haha. Good catch! -
Kind of! If you plug in the =ComponentArea formula into a database header, you can extract some information that way. For example, putting in =ComponentArea(1) will give you the area for the first component of that slab. It's handy only if all of your slab components have the same area/amount of space. There may be a way to get the entire area listed, but nothing comes to mind. The Help Guide lists a lot of 'em, but it may require some digging. http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2018/eng/VW2018_Guide/Worksheets/Worksheet_Functions.htm Hope that helps!

Strange Polyline behaviour when using Smartpoints
VeryCrunchyTaco replied to markdd's question in Troubleshooting
Woah, that's super weird. It's not happening for me in that same file, oddly enough. Does it happen with other tools, and in other files? Did you migrate over your preferences from 2017? (Maybe that has something to do with it, worth checking into.) -
I've never ran into this myself. Is this in 2017 or 2018? I would try resetting your VW Preferences; you can do it by deleting the folder in the following location. (Save it to a backup location if you'd like to keep your old workspaces/templates/tool sets). Windows | My Computer > C: > Documents and Settings > (YourUsername) > Application Data > Nemetschek > Vectorworks > 2018 Macintosh | HD > Users > (User's Home Folder) > Library > Application Support > Vectorworks > 2018 VW will remake this on launch, so no worries there. Hope that helps!

Hiya! As one with a little experience in game making, you're on the right path. Between Unity and Unreal, you should be able to make something work pretty well. There are some pretty dope templates for first person games as well, so to make a "walking simulator" (like Dear Esther), you'd just have to model your environment and world, and shove it in engine. Do keep in mind, though, most content for games today are modeled in 3DS Max or Maya, and it's a pretty huge rabbit hole to delve into. I know this isn't really related to Vectorworks, but hope it helps! (You could probably build your worlds and levels in Vectorworks, and then export to game engine? Dunno how well that'd work, though.)

Hiya! The educational version of Vectorworks does have watermarks, this is intentional to prevent people from making money off the free software. The Vectorworks trial (linked below) is a full professional version of Vectorworks, no watermarks. But, you only have it for 30 days, and it can only be used once. http://www.vectorworks.net/trial/form Keep in mind that any files that have a watermark in them will retain that watermark, even if you later open them in a professional version. Hope that helps!

Gotcha, and duly noted! Thanks for the update!

That's interesting. What version are you using, and what are your system specs? And how many objects are you moving? You could try cutting/copying all of the objects, making a new Design Layer, and then pasting. Let me know if that works any differently for you. I'm on a MacBook Pro (and VW2017 SP2), and just did it with 240 objects. There was about a 5-10 second delay though, which is understandable; that's a whole lot of calculations. Hope to hear more on this soon!

This will probably sound like a dumb response, but what happens if you increase the custom crease angle (to like, 180)? Will those hard edges still remain? Also, was that made in Marvelous? Looks pretty good! Have you tried increasing the polygon count in Marvelous before exporting?
-
That's so cool! I've never seen that hardware/software before, am looking forward to seeing how it meshes with your workflow. I've had fairly good results with importing 3DS and OBJ files, and it looks like Artec3D can export OBJ files. I'd try that out first. Scaling may be an issue, so you may have to play around with it to see what works best for you. Hope that helps!

Hi Jan, and hope I can help! What exactly are you moving? If it's just simple 3D geometry or symbols, I have some suggestions. You can always copy and paste (using ctrl+c or command+c) and then paste in place (ctrl+alt+v or command+alt+v), and then move accordingly. The duplicated items will be placed in the same place, and be selected, so you can move and press tab to select how far you want to move them specifically. You could also use the Offset tool (in the basic palette set, shortcut key is shift+-), and change the preferences to duplicate and offset the item you're moving. Apologies in advance if I misunderstood what you were trying to do. Let me know if that helps, and have a great day!
