Wouldn’t it be awesome to actually 3d-scan the room/building/object from within Nomad & then upload (import) it into your drawing…

Nomads most recent version has seperate options for uploading photos to generate a 3d polygon out of it,  as well as an option for making a lidar pointcloud.
Sooo… why not combine them all & merge them into an option to create a 3d-scan. Using nothing more than your phone with a lidar sensor 🤪

*types request on wishlist for Nomad 12*

Yeah i sometimes use that when i shoot with a drone but i like to have more adjustments and settings. On the ground i use lidar...i though it comes through with the screenshots. Those images i attached are made from a 3D scans. Like this one:

Hi @Kazemester, Are you able to send the file to us? We could take a look if you can attach the file here or send it to us tli@vectorworks.net. Thanks.

    Hi!

I've mailed you the link to the file. Thanks for the advices.

Hi @Kazemester, what is the procedure you follow when using a pointcloud for an interior design? Do you add 3d polys to the walls of the room, or do you leave the area as is?

You mean to use the lidar data to "reproduce" the interior? If that is the question, i just simply create sections in the Leica's own software (Cyclone) and than i just add the scaled .pngs to Vectorworks. I attached png example that i used last time for facade reconstruction and the same applies to floor plans as well...just the cutting plane is horizontal instead of vertical. (2nd pic) Than i just use walls to recreate the interior.

This is actually what I do as well. But it doesn't work for renderworks-quality animations, and doesn't create something you can then edit and refine.

Yeah...sadly it's just a "workaround"...it has its downsides. I wish new VW releases would take more than a year development like back in the "old days".

What do you tend to use for animations instead (if anything)?

I bought a 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Compact and i use it to move the camera smoothly around. Simply i just create a shaded render and i record the video with quicktime - screen recording. 😄

  5. @Anders BlombergI just use the standard version of metashape. It depends what you want to achive. I mean if you need to cover bigger areas from a higher altitude or you need preplanned flights to be executed...etc. you might need to go for a bigger bird. For having the "learning curve" i recommend using the Mini 1-2 and see what it does. It still holds a pretty nice value on the market even if its used so don't worry loosing much money buying one.

Actually...if you're already a VSS subscriber you have the opportunity to create photogrammetry right away inside of Cloud Services for Vectorworks.

Simply you just need to upload your photos (they don't need to be shot by a drone) and click on 'photos to 3D model".

You will get the results shown in the list above on the screeshot I've attached.

  6. I'd just go and buy a Mini 1 or a Mini 2. The resolution is of course dependent on the picture quality itself, but also the number of images taken.

I use a Mini 1, but it is way enough for my work...small buildings, sites and facades. I basically use Metashape for photogrammetry, but you can use the integrated photogrammetry for VSS users in VW cloud.

You don't need RTK if you don't need to do high (lower than 5cm) precision results.

Here are some examples of my Mini 1 and using metashape's photogrammetry:

ps.: oh...and don't forget if you just try to learn how to fly a drone, i'd recommend you to fly a cheap one so when you (hopfully never) crash it you just go and buy another one. (Or buy "dji care" for the drone so you get another one if you crash it for cheap.) And after you get familiar with the controls and prehaps master it, you can move forward to a bigger bird.

  7. Hi,

is it possible to create a section viewport of a pointcloud somehow on a sheet layer? Whatever i do, the RGB colored pointcloud is only visible in white.

It does not show up in hidden line render and i need a background set up to actually see something on a white background.

This is the original rgb colored one on a design layer:

And this is the hidden line render version:

  8. Hi, i've made two videos on two issues...i didn't want to open two different topics for this.

First, when i try to extract a surface of an object sometimes it makes the surface in the selected object's class. (1st video)

The other thing is just a UI thing...the Navigation window's columns input fields are shifted slightly on the left for every column. (2nd video)

Sure, what passes would be useful to you?

I would love to render out all of them, but at least zdepth, object id, material id, reflection, refraction, shadow, specular...🥺

@Kazemester I have not seen that, unless you have Unified View turned off and the design layer rendering is being overwritten by a later design layer?

Check if Denoising is on in your settings, de-noising takes 2x the non-denoising amount of render time.  And it most of the time can be turned off.  One useful way to use denoising would be Sampling quality set to Low and Denoising on, to clean things up.  With High the Denoising doesn't improve things much for the 2x render time.

Thanks for the tip...render time doesn't really matter, the disappearing render is much more frustrating. I had de-noising on, but had Unified VIew turned on as well.

I render in sheet layers anyways so it was just a quick comment.

  11. VW2022 still doesn't recognise 3D mouses when connected...VW needs to be restarted to detect the connected mouse.

By the way in "walkthrough" tool in "gamer mode" you still can move the "invisible" mouse out of the VW window which is pretty annoying using hot corners and "show desktop hot corner" hides the screen all the time. And after exiting the tool the mouse remains hidden, only pressing alt+tab resolves the issue. (This bug was there in VW since gamer mode walkthrough came in.)

  12. Redshift render instantly disappears after completion on design layers.(I guess it's a bug?!) On sheet layers the render works fine.

And the results are pretty good!

By the way...can we ask for render passes finally as Redshift render engine is present?

Edit: the redshift render on 300dpi took around 40mins, the final quality interior renderworks took aroun 5mins though.

  13. When I add a polygon to a roof (make it wider) it shifts the edge of the roof. That moves all the skylights added to that roof face as well.

I know the reason to this, but would it be possible to add the added roof width to the skylight "offset from building line" automatically instead?

    Thanks
