  1. Ok, so the question may be: Does your RCP show door slabs & swings? If not, how do you do it?
  2. Carl - you would think this is an old topic, but I haven't found it on the Tech Board, and I've asked NNA (in person and with a letter) the same question with no response. AC solves this with layer management tools, and VW has no equivalent for class management (with VW classes supposedly equivalent to AC layers). jf - We use layer links all the time effectively just as you describe. However, layer links do not solve the problem of inserting a symbol (like a door) and allowing control of that item across several layers. A symbol can not be broken into its component parts on multiple layers for the desired control. HDU draw a floor plan with a door, and remove the door & swing from the RCP and show a continuous header across the door opening? Using groups is not the answer because it requires aditional duplicitous work and wall customization at each opening, with the same additional work required upon the inevitable changes involved in any project. The idea is to draw 1 thing 1 time and be able to manage that item in a variety of settings......as good as VW is, we need more 2D drafting capabilities. The last time we issues CDs with 3D modeling was......I forget.
  3. Ok, but say you want a Floor Plan and RCP on the same drawing. Draw a base plan which contains the elements that are common to both plans - walls. Insert a door. Now, using WGR & links, set up the drawing to show the door only on the Floor Plan, and the door header only on the RCP. Classes don't seem to have the necessary level of management tools to separate items per view/sheet/link/whatever. Or, even if the Floor Plan & RCP are not on the same drawing (which would allow classes to be turned off in the Floor Plan w/o affecting the RCP), HDU draw a door one time, with all the necessary parts (t-hold, door, jamb, swing, header) and control those items separately?
  4. HDU show multiple differing views of the same drawing with varying layers AND classes on the same sheet*; e.g., floor plan, RCP on (1) 24x36 page specifically in regard to a door (or another symbol) in a wall and turn off the door in the RCP but still show a header so the wall is continuous? I've tried making (1) symbol with different layers, no luck. Ideally, the door symbol would have separate layers for referencing or linking as the plan requires. By structuring the WGR properly, the target file is easy enough to set up, but it can't be fine tuned. *This question works for different sheets, but (1) sheet should add an additional level of layer management to the issue. Thanks.
  5. UhHuh...TS, How much memory do you have? Hugo,1) Reload VW (after copying your preferences, templates, symbols, etc) - my fault for not mentioning this solution earlier.2) Run the Apple Disk Utility from the OS X Install disk....important! If this does work, upgrade the RAM at your first opportunity, replacing the 2nd 128chip with a new 256 ($86), or with a new 512 ($186) If this does not work, you may have some bad (existing) memory. There is an unanswered post from 6/24 with the same topic, and the solution above works for us. The Apple Disk Utility is key to maintaining OS X. ....and that should be the end of urban overcrowding and random daily computer crashes.
  6. We run VW on machines with a minumum of 512mg; we have an office of architects and graphic designers. When we do 3D work and Photoshop, due to the number of apps open at any given time, we use machines with 1mg.....Would you really want to run a machine with any manufacturer's minimum recommendations? Their basic requirements take into account the bare minimum, with no room for computer idiosyncrasies (sp?) or multiple apps.... The disk utilities you listed mat not work on OS X yet.....you should run the Apple utility....unrecognition of the correct disk utility was a problem when 10.x.x was introduced, and still is a problem.
  7. Oops...OS X allocates that memory for you....forget about allocating your own.....flashback to 9.x and VW crashing problems..... Try that disk utility and get some more ram.
  8. Try running the Apple Disk Utility from the OS X Install disk. This is the best fix (to date) for OS X problems, and relatively un-discussed. Upgrade VW memory to as much as your computer will allow with another app runnning. OS X takes a chunk of this memory; you may not have enough total on your machine. We use VW on machines with at least 512, and 256 min allocated to VW.
  9. Mac g4 10.1.5 w/1gb....VW 9.5.2 VW quits, with seemingly no relation to specific command or program function. VW preferences are replaced with original file on a weekly basis.... Have not had any other problems with 10.1.5 or VW 9.5.1 or 9.5.2....ran Apple disk utility and "fsck -y". Has there been any resolution on VW quits? Lots of posts, but don't see a definitive answer. ?? Thanks
