  1. Don't be too surprised that Maxon is out of the gate quickly. Cinema 4D's code base is 90%+ "platform-independent" (you can see this by comparing the Mac and Windows version side by side). I suspect they had an easier task to create a UB than NNA does. [ 02-03-2006, 10:30 PM: Message edited by: Peter Huggins ]
  2. mclaugh, Are you suggesting that NNA neither "optimized their code" nor performed "basic bug testing"? If so, you couldn't be further from the truth.
  3. You could also check out: http://www.touchcad.com/.
  4. Hi Drew, Here's a script that should do the trick. It operates on all selected objects... {------------------------} Procedure rotateeach; VAR h : HANDLE; p1X,p1Y,p2X,p2Y,rotatevalue : REAL; Procedure rotateme (h : HANDLE); BEGIN GetBBox(h,p1x,p1y,p2x,p2y); HRotate(h,p1x+((p2x-p1x)/2),p1y+((p2y-p1y)/2),rotatevalue); END; BEGIN rotatevalue := RealDialog('Enter the Rotation Value',''); ForEachObject(rotateme,((SEL=TRUE))); END; Run(rotateeach); {------------------------}
  5. I wanted to correct Mr. Perez-Gatell's statement. Resolve supports products that we sell (VectorWorks and Cinema 4D) across Canada. In his original e-mail, I made the incorrect assumption that he was referring to one of these products and informed him that we only sell/support in Canada. He was in fact referring to a plug-in that is available on our website. We do not intend to release an update to this plug-in as the capability that it provided to VW 11 users has been incorporated into VectorWorks 12. Mr. Perez-Gatell also refers to having paid money for this plug-in. This is not correct. The plug-in has always been a FREE download and was offered to the VectorWorks community as such. Resolve prides itself in outstanding technical support, product expertise and customer satisfaction. We apologize to Mr. Perez-Gatell and anyone who was affected by this misunderstanding. Thanks!
  6. Hi Roger, This problem is caused by a bug in VW 11.5. When the exercise was created (for version 11.0) it worked exactly as published. Here are the steps to complete the exercise, starting with Page 5, Step 3: ------ Choose the corkscrew top layer to make it active. Choose Revolve with Rail and click once on each of the three surfaces as show. Do not Shell the object at this time. Select the object and the extrude and choose Align/Distribute 3D. Align and Center the objects along their X and Y axes. With both objects still selected, choose Subtract Solids from the Model menu, and highlight the surface as the shape to be retained. Now select the remaining object and choose the Shell Solid Tool. Open the tool's Preferences box and enter a Thickness of .1". Highlight the object and press the Enter key. ------ Basically, you are simply changing the order of operations and using the Shell Solid Tool at the end instead of the beginning. Hope that clears things up and sorry for the confusion.
  7. Hi Don, Setting the option to "Left", and maximizing the window allows for a two tool-wide palette space. Unfortunately, this is the default behaviour of VectorWorks and cannot be changed.
  8. Hi Thomas, Hopefully I can clear up some of this for you. As mentioned, the current Fundamentals PLS seminar is for ?green? users and focuses on key concepts that most (if not all) users need to get started and become efficient in the use of VectorWorks. We do see a broad range of user abilities in the classes, and very often receive positive comments from long-time users who were able to correct bad habits and learn methods to improve their productivity. Later on the second day (possibly after Jeffrey left), we focus on some more advanced topics such as layers/classes/viewports, symbols, using parametric objects, and the wall tool. Through evaluations, we have received a lot of very valuable input from our participants over the last 4 years of teaching this series of seminars. As a result, we're now developing new courses to address the industry series products as well as advanced topics relating to the complete VectorWorks product line. We're also looking at adding some workshops to get users involved in project-based learning sessions as well. Stay tuned to the NNA website for upcoming announcements regarding these changes.
  9. There is a free version available at Vector Depot. I haven't looked at it recently, but it will likely do what you are asking. Navigate to http://www.vectordepot.com/PlugIns1.shtml and look for the item called "Rectangle PIO".
  10. Hi Rick, Not sure if you own an Industry Series product. If so, the new Batch Print command allows you to set a sheet layer to Black & White when you print. HTH Pete.
  11. Hi Buz, A couple of clarifications. The training CDs for VectorWorks 10 (Foundation 1, 2, and Architect) are built for OSX. As Katie mentioned, they were updated to teach the new and changed features in version 10. Some of the content was not changed from 9 to 10. Best regards, -- Peter Huggins Resolve Software Solutions Inc.
  12. Hi, To set this matter straight, I wanted to clarify why the Training CDs don?t run native in OS X. We didn?t choose to make them in a way that they don?t run native to OS X, as was stated, but rather it was not available as an option. Macromedia Director, the standard software for this type of multimedia presentation, released an upgrade that permits OS X native ?projectors? only a few weeks ago, whereas these CDs were created last July. It?s simply one of those cases where the developers of some software packages have not made the release of an OS X compatible version a high priority. Best regards,
  13. Hi Mat, Seems like something must be wrong. The "Scale Text" check box actually works more like an application preference setting. That is to say, it is not specific to each layer, but to the entire document (or any open documents). If it is turned on, text that is copied and pasted will scale according to the destination layer's scale (as compared against the source layer's scale), thus changing the text's font size. If it's turned off, text that is cut and pasted remains at it's font size. HTH.
  14. Hi Epidavros, Not sure what you mean here. By definition, axonometric projections include projections which use vertical lines to represent height and sloping parallel edges for all other sides. As such, there are a number of axonometric drawings, including "isometric" (three equal angles), "dimetric" (two equal angles), "trimetric" (three different angles), "oblique" (1 side facing the observer), and "planometric" (also called plan oblique). VectorWorks includes isometric and oblique (cavalier and cabinet) options in the View menu. Dimetric and trimetric projections can be created by starting in an isometric projection, and then using the Flyover Tool to rotate the view. This debate came up in one of our seminars last year, and I have a couple of web pages bookmarked with more info if you'd like. HTH...
  15. Hi Bill, I sent you a private response "off-list". If you do not receive it, I will try and contact you by telephone. Peter Huggins.
  16. The baseline is the top or bottom of the characters, not including ascenders or descenders (which typicaly appear on lower case characters like g,h, etc.). So VectorWorks provides a method for aligning text to either.
  17. Hi Joe, We experienced a problem similar to this in VW8.5. It ended up that an object very far away from the drawing origin was causing the problem. I suspect this is not your problem (as VW9 has a totally different mathematical model), but you may want to test for it. HTH.
  18. Hello dog, Check out the Learning Series CD-ROM products, available at www.nemetschek.net. They include in-depth information on many VectorWorks features, as well as exercises in step-by-step tutorial form. Best regards,
  19. This is a bug introduced in VW 9.5.1 (Windows only). Anywhere the classes list is accessed in a dialog (Custom Visibility, Custom Selection, Saved Sheets), classes named with a hyphen do not show up (there is just one entry in the list, the word before the hyphen). This makes use of these features nearly impossible. VectorScript seems to be immune, so dialogs generated by Architect/Landmark etc. are OK. Can NNA Tech Support give an indication if this will be addressed before the next major release? It is affecting several of our large client installations (mostly the Saved Sheet part). Regards,
  20. Hi Esther, The Learning Series CD's include good material (with tutorials) on 3D concepts. The RenderWorks CD is a single disc devoted to rendering, lighting, texture-mapping and output. It will be shipping within days. Check out www.nemetschek.net, or call your local dealer/distributor. HTH.
  21. I think you will find that neither of these methods work anymore (since VW 9.5.0). The problem is, that the first thing the Installer requires is a serial number, regardless of whether a pres file [registry file - Windows] already exists. Unfortunate, but I believe this is the case. Interested to know if you find a work-around.
  22. Hi Andrew, you can run the SA as many time as you like. Just make sure in the Auxiliary Sheets dialog, that you reset the number of sheets to 1 less than it is displaying and click the "Apply" button. An extra step(s), but workable. This bug has been around for a while and unfortunately hasn't seem to have received attention yet. Hope that helps.
  23. Petri, The stair object contains two parameters (Offset 1, Offset 2) which can be used to change the length of the landing. While these parameters are normally used on "double-back" stairs, they seem to work fine on a straight stair. You cannot make the landing length less than the width (which here wouldn't meet code anyway), but it can be any length, I believe. Does that solve your problem?
