I am a draftsman. Not a programmer. I started with mechanical pencils. Now my tool is a mouse. I like to draw. I like to estimate. How do I get VW to put out an estimate as I draw? I've studied the VW manual, I've searched the archives of both DG & at VECTORWORKS-L@PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM for simple basic info on how to set-up a worksheet. I am a draftsman. Not a programmer. Must I re-invent the wheel or may I purchase the method/procedures from an individual who is both a draftsman & a programmer. Or is there a recommended manual available that has the ability to simply convey the neccessities needed to create worksheets?
Specifically, I'm having trouble with spreadsheet functions & syntax. I have worked with Excel & Filemaker in the past but VW is stumping me.
Thanks.

I have created and attached some records, I know how to create a report. Now I would like to extract data into a separate worksheet for calculating purposes. I tried the syntax mentioned on Pg 15-15 of VW manual with no success. Error message of "Invalid Factor" appears. I can't figure out the proper path name needed between the two worksheets. Any help appreciated. At some time I will be wanting to import/export between a VW database & an Excel spreadsheet. Any info on that procedure will also be appreciated. Thanks.

Do any users of VW use the worksheets feature to produce estimates? Do you use any other program to help assist VW with the estimating? I have started dabbling into this area of VW and it looks promising, but for value, is it best to purchase a 3rd party program or go ahead and invest the effort to create a program tailored to our needs? Thanks.

I would like to suggest a forum dedicated to Worksheets & Databases. Seems to me that this feature of VW is overlooked by some of us by the lack of discussion on the other forums. I would like to hear & learn from you users how you specifically use this feature to enhance your estimating, etc abilities. Thanks!

Hey William,
Here's a good site that might help, http://peach.ease.lsoft.com. Look into their archives. I posted a couple of questions about this matter at this board, I received 1 reply. Needless to say I'm teaching myself how to get VW to put together an estimate as I draw. I'm in the middle of the project & it looks promising. I'm using two components of VW (1. records, 2. database worksheets) and exporting to Excel. I'm more comfortable with Excel for setting up a spreadsheet. Like I said, I might be 1/2 done but each step forward sometimes puts me three steps back. I'm not a puter geek but if I can help, you are welcome to e-mail me questions or suggestions.
