  1. In 2023, when editing symbols I had a box appear whose title was "Component Edit" (shown below). I cannot find how to enable that in 2024. I'm sure it is a simple oversight, could someone tell me how to get this in 2024?

    Thanks!

  2. I know I am very late in responding, but curious what you ended up doing. I don't know the correct procedure or recommendation here. I had a similar situation. Ultimately, I finished the 2D plot so I could show data as desired for the crew. Then created a 2nd plot just for 3D export to MA, that placed lights in their actual location in terms of x, y, z.

I also work a lot with Rep plots-long story short my work flow is such that I cannot/do not place all fixtures on the same layer. Because of this I find using the Create Plot and Model view cumbersome, and ultimately unhelpful. However, anyone I ask about this tool says it is confusing and does not yield the results they desire.

  3. Hello-

I have not used the Drawing Label tool much. I have two questions:

    1) is there a way to set the default "distance" it is placed (in a Viewport) below the geometry? If so, where and how?

    2) is there a way to renumber these as a group? I know how to renumber them individually through the OIP, but curious is I decide to delete some, or move some viewports to different pages, I may want to renumber them; I guess you could call it a "batch" renumber for lack of a better description.

    Thanks!

  4. I am a Lighting and Scenic Designer. In the past everyone was fine with receiving and sharing pdf's of our drafting. Now, as each year passes the request for the actual VW file is increasing with exponential frequency. My drawings contain many resources (Symbols, Textures, Worksheets, Scripts, etc.) that I have painstakingly created over many years and frankly I do not want to put those up for grabs. These drawings may also contain Resources I have purchased or requested permission to use from other companies and individuals. Just like plug-ins and scripts can be locked, it is past due time to allow  our resources to be locked as well so they cannot be copied or imported into other drawings. The inability to do so is now putting my future work opportunities in jeopardy with several clients and companies, as they either want me to hand over the drawing or else they will go somewhere else. This should be at the forefront of the programmers to do list!

    Thanks-Scott

    Hello All,

With every new release of VW, I hope and pray that some sort of file protection system will have been implemented and every time I am disappointed. Are there any plans of some way of locking or password protecting files? Could a file be saved/exported to open only with Vectorworks Viewer functionality? That would be PERFECT. Can we put a password on unlocking objects? (less perfect, but still good). I want recipients of the file to be able to see it completely and manipulate their views, but no have access to resources and not be able to change the file. Any ideas? Any Vectorscript solutions out there?

    Thanks

    Jake

I absolutely agree with and request this. I am a Lighting and Scenic Designer. In the past everyone was fine with receiving and sharing pdf's of our drafting. Ah, good to know.

This is both good news and immensely terrifying for obvious reasons. I'm sad that so many resources may go into redoing something that was just done when there are so many other things are still on the bigger list.

    Thanks for your candour.

Are you saying we have to wait until VW2019 to see these improvement/changes; or can we hopefully expect them in a future 2018 SP?

  7. Please add the ability to allow users to adjust the order of the fields in Title Blocks. This is NOT a request to delete any default system fields, simply a request to order these fields in a manner that is most logical, needed, and frequently accessed by the user. I imagine this order is dramatically different across different users and firms. This would be for all "Tabs"; Project Data, Sheet Data , etc. Likewise, it would be nice to be able to control which fields are shown or not.

I imagine this would be similiar to the Lighting Device Parameters. While I cannot delete required system fields, I can reorder them and select which ones are shown in the shape pane. It took several VW versions for the functionality of the LD Parameters to reach its current state, which is much more elegant than its earlier existence. I believe a similar approach to the Title Block Border Settings Window would be a very popular improvement. In my discussions with fellow users, and on lists and forums I see many similar requests and sentiments.

I've included a jpg of the Lighting Device Parameter Window although I'm sure you are well aware of its layout.

    Thanks!

  8. Hello!

In a bit of a jam. Our upcoming User Group session (Thursday night) was going to be on scripting and was going to be led by a scripting master. He suddenly got called out of town for work. I want to try and answer one direct question from another user about Marionette, who asked how to do the following:

I'd like to create a script that creates a PIO that:

-Creates a circle (and allows the size of the circle to be adjusted in the OIP)

-places text in the center of the circle (and allows size, font, etc. to be adjusted in the OIP).

I imagine this is relatively simple. I've used the 2pt Circle node to create the circle. Just not sure of best way to proceed from there. As I'm in the middle of putting out fires myself I don't have a lot of time to discover the solution and am helpful someone can assist me with this.

    Thanks!

    Scott
