  1. Your wish is granted. Go to Vectordepot. There is a free download plug-in that does just that. I use it. It places a loci midpoint of two user selected points.
  2. Hi Kurt; Congratulations on your purchase and thanks for the info. I hope that as you use your new machine, you can update us. I have always liked HP products but their lousy software has led me to start looking elsewhere. Why did you choose the 9600 over the 7600? Did you ever get your HP 455CA to work with Gimp Print? It has been about a month now since I started using Gimp Print and I have not looked back.
  3. Hi Dave; Katie Roberts should already have the file. I sent it to her yesterday so she can investigate why the animation process freezes before completion. I will send you an email on the specifics of that file. Thank you for your help.
  4. Hi Dave; I had NURBS turned off. This is not the issue of dark speckles on a chrome sphere. There are multiple vertical elements showing. From my perspective it appears to be related to the appearance differences in wireframe mode. In wireframe the Window Wall has hundreds of vertical lines. In contrast, a curved wall has none. The curved wall renders fine, but the Window Wall does not. Thank you for your help.
  5. I have a model with both curved glass windows and curved glass railings. The windows are created with the "Window Wall Tool". The curved glass railings are created witht the "Curved Wall Tool" I have assigned a glass texture to both. When rendered, the glass railing looks as it should. However the curved glass windows are semi-opaque and speckeled. I notice that in wireframe the two appear different as well. The window wall is full of vertical lines. The curved glass rail has no lines at all. Rendering the Window Wall in glass is unacceptable. For now I have it render as a solid color which is a shame since the straight doors and windows look great in transparent glass. Any ideas?
  6. Some mice have software that allows the assigning of buttons. I have a microsoft mouse that allows me to do just that. I am using a Mac.
  7. I should note that rendering in Open GL seems to work fine. it is using Renderworks that is the problem. On several occassions I did get an error message "One or more operations were aborted due to lack of memory, increase partition size". This is under OS10.2.3. Obviously I cannot increase partition size. Installed ram is 512MB and only Vectorworks is running.
  8. Hi Katie; I can answer that question. I have restarted my computer three times today. Each time I then choose an orbit animation. At some point everything stops and I get the spinning beach ball. I then have to force-quit vectorworks. It does not mater if I restart or not, it still freezes.
  9. I have created a roof element that represents a hexagonal skylight. I have given it a glass texture. When rendered it does not show transparency. I have created a glass rail in the same view and it shows transparency fine. The rail is made from the wall tool. When I choose maping in the object info pallet, the glass rail turns invisible when previewed, the glass roof does not turn invisible. VW 9.5.3 with Renderworks, OS10.2.3 Any ideas?
  10. As of January 25, 2003, there is a new version of Gimp Print on their website ready for download for OSX.
  11. Hi Katie; It froze again. As you suggested I restarted the computer and set the number of undos to 1. The animation is 30 seconds at 24 frames per second. I ran about 6 tests in Open GL to get the animation the way i wanted it. During these tests the computer never froze. The Open GL animations took about 15 minutes each to render. Then I restarted, set undos to 1, and set the animation to render in Custom Renderworks, Detail: Low, Ray Trace Shadows, Use Ray Tracing, Recursion Level: 1, Use Textures, Show Transparency, No Anti-Aliasing, No Nurbs. I kept an eye on it and it seemed to do fine. Rendering was slow but was progressing. Last night when I left it, the screen read: Frame 220 of 721, Time spent: 5:49:11, Time remaining: 13:15:12. This morning it reads the same and is now frozen. If I did not know better, I would swear that as soon as "it saw me leave the room", it froze. I have no explanation for why it froze as soon as I left it unattended. I had the energy saver set to never sleep. The screen saver comes on, but it came on many times before the program froze. What should I do now? VW9.5.3, OS10.2.3, 1GHz TiBk, 512MB
  12. Katie; How large of a file can you accept? I do not think it is possible to send a 28MB file. Thanks.
  13. Robert; I have had the same problem for years. Depending on the zoom, lines will disappear. I looked for the "Scale Lineweights Option". I cannot find it. Where is this? The next time I have this problem I will try turning that option on or off to see if it makes a difference. Of course Katie's observation about video cards may be the answer too. Thank you both.
  14. Hi Katie; Actually my first post was about static rendering. About half of the screen would render and then freeze. I went on to oribit point rendering, (animation), and it would render perhaps 120 out of 151 frames and then freeze. After your advice about restarting with a lower undo preference, I decided to try a walk-through animation. The computer has frozen on all three types of rendering. I am sorry if I was not clear. Thank you for your help. I await your reply.
  15. Hi Katie; The file is 28MB created with VWA 9.5.3. Lighting is a single sun source and some ambient both set with the View>Lighting menus. Textures are unaltered from the Renderworks library: glass, aggregate and chrome. The most demanding part of this rendering is that I have a wall of glass block. I created 3d glass block and gave it a glass texture. So there are hundreds of glass solids to render. The behaviour is not consistent. If I force quit VW it will render a few times before freezing. This happens both on a static render and when rendering an orbit animation. Twice the animation froze at about frame 20 out of 151 frames. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
  16. Did anyone find a fix for this? VW freezes after rendering about half of the screen. VW9.5.3, OS10.2.3, 1Ghz Powerbook
  17. Apple states that Jaguar will not run on the "original" powerbook. I also seem to remember that the original Power Mac G3/233 is not supported. The Apple website shows a beige G3 tower, which I believe is 266mHz, as supported. They do not show the desktop beige G3/233. You are probably right on the edge of having a powerful enough processor to run OSX.
  18. Robert: Thank you for your help. Your idea works great. I added a wish list item for a checkbox in the Document Preferences where you could select both "Black and White" and "Show Redlines in Color"
  19. Kurt; I am running a 455CA on an ethernet network and printing from a G4. Over the holidays I decided to take the leap and move up to OSX. I figured that I could print to postscript and then rip and plot using OS9 on my G3. I spent a full day fiddling with this and it did not work. I kept getting error messages halfway through the print job and the RIP would quit. So I decided to join your ranks and downloaded GimpPrint. It worked like a charm. It printed just as expected. I made no adjustments to the plotter setup. All installations and adjustments were made in the software on the G4. I did note the following: Under page setup I could select the 455 or select Any Printer. The anyprinter selection showed me a page size of 23.55x34.64 which seemed to be the familiar size given by the HP RIP. When I used this I got part of my border clipped off. The cutter worked fine, just the image was off-center. When I chose the 455 under page setup, the image size showed at 24.0x36.0. Under this setting everything worked as expected. I don't know if this is dumb luck, but if I can answer any questions for you, let me know. If I discover any new info, I will pass it on. Thanks to everyone for bringing us GimpPrint.
  20. Katie: The PDF documentation does not reference chapter and section. It only has page numbers.
  21. Hi Kurt; Thanks for the info on Doodle. I have it for Minicad 7 and for Vectorworks 8. I just assumed that it would not work for VW9. I do not remember much about the setup of GimpPrint. I dont think I did much of anything. It all went fairly automatic. What you are asking does not sound familiar. As far as the shrunk image, I had the same problem. It was caused by a second scaling option that was set to around 30%. Go to page setup and select the Vectorworks pull down. The window will have a field for scale. Be sure it is set to 100%. If you would like me to look at settings that I have, just let me know. I don't know what else to tell you. Kevin
  22. Hi Katie; The OS is Mac 10.2.3 using VW9.5.3. I have a model layer that I am working on. The layer is empty except for three layer links. The three links are 1st, 2nd, Roof. All three linked layers are of the same scale. The model image does copy convert. The complaint is that only the curved surfaces on the 2nd floor of the model are given lines that indicate a curved surface. I realize that this behaviour can be adjusted by setting different 3d Conversion Resolutions. But in this case the effect is only affecting one of the three linked layers. There is a curved wall that runs full height of the building. It is therefore composed of three sections each stacked on top of the other in it's respective layer: 1st, 2nd, Roof. The 1st and Roof sections are rendered plain. The center section at 2nd renders with the vertical lines to indicate it's curvature. Thanks
  23. Just today I was thinking the same thing. NNA tech support has done a great job in giving timely responses to our questions. Thank you all. As an added bonus, I get to improve my vocabulary with such great words as "boolean" and "co-linear vertices"
  24. I just setup GimpPrint a few days ago and it works great so far. Many older HP printer are supported. I do not know if the newer machines are. This is a discussion about GimpPrint on this board: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000081
