Go to the settings tab in the OIP and the data tab is the last one to the right. You can access a whole slew of settings and info to link to objects and choose for it to be added to a schedule.
-
This might be obvious but are you applying the textures by class attributes? Sometimes the textures will "take" better this way. Regardless, I have had issues with some parameters/textures reverting to previous settings when editing other nonrelated parameters in the OIP. Sometimes you just gotta do it again.
Good Luck

I second that notion!
A lot of us have used VW for years and yet will still come up against something that just isn't working for some reason or another-usually we just haven't tackled that particular problem before. A query posted on this group usually brings helpful answers quickly and with no attitude about the apparent obviousness of the solution.
Regardless of where you are residing, thank you for your help!
Happy New Year!

Apparently the roofs need to be on a different layer. That is what solved the problem.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I've never attempted to use this tool until just now. I obviously must be doing something wrong but have a simple gable roof and the walls (10' high) all revert to a 0' height when I invoke this tool to constrain to the tops of the walls. The walls will take on the height of the wall top embedding depth parameter-which is default 0", I presume because it will work fine with that input unless you have thick walls or very steep roofs-and if I input any number to that parameter the walls take that height, but do not ever constrain to the geometry of the roof.
It seems to be such a straightforward action/tool that I am stumped by inability to do this- though that is not all that uncommon ;-)
Thanks for any help between your turkey sandwiches.

Jonathan, Thanks for the reply and the advice and offer of help- unfortunately I cannot e-mail you the window that doesn't take. I am doing exactly as you advise and after inputting the first 2046 DH into the overall 7846 size (locking or unlocking-doesn't matter), the second window inputting of the width, regardless of whether that is the center fixed or the last DH will wack out the windows how the are able to fill in the overall size- they wont. And then if I accept the wacked out window it will just input as a 2640 DH.
I will try to send a saved file with the window dialogue box still open-if that works?
Edit: Obviously can't save with dialogue box open
Sent the file with the resulting 7846 fixed window
Thanks for the help
Meanwhile I have created a symbol of three attached windows to the configuration I need. - looks fine but.... I want a free copy of windoor! ( I have the trial version- seems great) Since my windows don't work

Somehow, whatever I enter as the second sash configuration -whether that is the fixed center, or I skip over to the last DH, and irregardless of locking status-that data input will instantly change how the three rows fill in the overall size-that is they cannot expand to fill in the overall size.
OK now I am locking the center fixed and then adding the two DHs unlocked (or all three locked)- It takes- then inputting parts: mullions, sill, and trim- it takes- Yay! then hit OK to get out of Window dialogue box and.... I get a 7846 fixed window no trim or sill WTF?!
-
Peter, I was all excited about the locking sash config-(hadn't used it-duh!) BUT! I'm trying that and after inputting overall size of 7846 (giving some room for 4" mullions)-custom options-1 Row, 3 Columns- First window: 2046 DH locked-last window same locked-and then something freaks and the 3 windows are only allowed to fill in half of the overall window size-leaving a 0446 center fixed!? The locked first window turns into a 7846- or some other pattern of the three windows partially filling in the overall size?! The whole thing looks wacky and I'm trying to lock or unlock the rows-tweaking it here and there. Regardless -whatever data I have entered that seemed to create this wacky window is nonetheless completely ignored when actually put in the file- it becomes a 2640 DH -apparently the only window VW has decided I will ever need
Is there some pattern in locking the custom windows that might alleviate this?
Or starting out with a existing window or window symbol?
Thanks much for the reply. It sounds so simple but -and it could be completely me- but I'm trying- I tell you!
-
I'm trying to create a very simple Chicago style window, 3046 fixed between 2046 double hungs. I know there are some bugs with this window tool (rendering, not filling in areas etc...) but inputting data to custom sash options absolutely will not take. I have tried creating new window, editing existing window, creating window symbol then editing-either the multiple windows freak out the overall size or it seems to take all the data in the window dialogue box and then completely ignores all editing in the actual file.
Is there something I am missing or is this part of the buggy (unusable?!) window tool?
I know I could manually place three windows but the trim/mullions overlap, and isn't this tool supposed to solve that issue?
Thanks for any help.

I wholeheartedly agree about the astragal default. I am rarely spec'ing out french doors or other types of double doors with a post down the middle.
-
I've experienced this too. I now am continuously saving a copy of the file I'm working on in the hopes that both files won't end up being unrecognized by VW.
Until the bug is fixed that's my advice.

We'll be celebrating the battle for the Pueblo with a margarita (or two) here in San Diego.

Figured it out- kept hitting saved views and that turn off Style-Glazing 1 class

I admired those ridge-caps too, I was thinking cool, a new option with roofs or textures. Alas I believe he indicated they were created using nurbs curves, probably using the ridge as the path or vector. I am sure he will show up with info for you soon.

YAY! Layer options was it- Jeeze I'm such an idiot lol
Thanks Dave!

This seems like such a dweeb newbie question (having been here since MiniCad) but somehow my basic template document will not hold a Open GL render in flyover-no not a large file, think a monopoly house.
Have looked over prefs in both App and document and cannot figure it out.
Works fine in other files -I can open a new blank file-not change anything-and copy paste in new file and it renders perfectly-but want to correct this template. It is driving me just a little bit crazy.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies.
I hate to rant because I like VW-It is what I use to earn a living- and have used it for years-early MiniCad-I think the software has improved and expanded its capabilities tremendously in many ways and I still have much to learn to utilize all the capabilities it has.
But! All those potential capabilities mean very little when work you need to earn a living is lost. Its sounds very unprofessional to tell clients you have lost file data to software issues.
I will try the methods recommended and see if there is some sort of pattern that prompts this disaster-and anything I can do to save data.
I haven't upgraded the computer or software other than OS upgrades. It seems to me that this did happen in VW 12.0 as well, but since I was just exploring the new update I wasn't so perturbed.

No network. I command (keyboard) save/close>do you want to save this file? (I usually just have) so-default yes. I never click the red stop light to close. Go back to file later and it shows up with Zero KB data-unopenable.
I always (well, try to) have the folder in which the file is kept open on the desktop to periodically command>duplicate the file I am working on and dump previous copies. If not- just File menu save a copy to the folder.
This is scary-the file I just copied shows up as Zero KB-but will open with data. But previous file unopenable.

WHATS WITH THE FREAKING DUMPING OF ALL DATA ON A FILE WITH THIS UPGRADE?
It's not enough to save every minute or so-I have learned with VW12 to periodically save a copy in case of this zero k of unopenable data that one finds on a file that was just closed with 3 MBs- I try to save a copy and dump the previous one frequently but every once in while I'm working like a busy beaver and just save the working file and then close up that file I've been working on for hours thinking that it actually might retain all that work.
NOPE!- this is an old file (not!) created with an earlier version (Nope!) or corrupted by a system or hardware error. Poof! Gone.
Never happened with earlier versions.
This makes me paranoid just to use this software.

Textures can be accessed in VW12 by the object info pallette render tab, (the button defaults at class texture and will drop down to the loaded textures when hit) where you will find some (of the hundreds available) textures already available to use, including glass.
The way to access the others would be to add new favorite files where you should be automatically directed to VW folder>libraries>textures>open. The whole folder of textures will be imported i.e. interior finishes. I am sure there is a way to access them individually by it seems to default to a VW file that has the textures in it.
Or go to other files that have textures loaded in them.
Nemetschek tells you it is simple to access everything just how you want to but I've been using this program forever too and sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for either so don't sweat it.

:-) I notice you didn't try and discribe the sound the eyedropper makes when applying settings.
Isn't it "schplat"?

If you invoke the edit resource option after importing the glass texture you can then hit the edit reflectivity shader which will bring up editing parameters that include transmission/tranparency sliders. Usually takes a little bit of tweaking between transmission and some of the other options to get the look you want.
Make sure you have a Style-glazing 1 class to link that edited glass texture to your windows.

The Break Line tool is just a graphical annotation located in the Dims/Notes tool set. The split or trim tool would do what you want. I guess it would be nice to have that option on the break line tool to change the graphical attributes of the object in less steps, but there seems to be enough parameters on that tool already.

Yep. If you want it to remain a wall you would have to use the 3D reshape tool to the beam geometry-then it would have to extend through the wall.
Getting rid of facets in 3D?
in General Discussion
Posted · Edited by Damon Design
Go to Vectorworks > Preferences > 3D > and set the 3D conversion res: to Very High. Facets will be minimized in OpenGL and should be eliminated completely in Final Quality RW-this would work for standard 3D model shapes. For created polygons I think there is also a smoothing tool or mode but I don't do very much advanced 3D solids modeling, hopefully some some super whiz like islandmon will chime in here soon for ya.
Good Luck
