  1. I have multiple symbols in my file with the symbol origins at the symbol 'center', but I need them to be at the lowest z-point of the symbol so that I can see and adjust the z-height (effectively the trim height) of my flying objects. If I could simply move the origin and leave the symbols in place, this would solve my issue. Is there another way?
  2. yes. this. would be helpful with symbols as well... (plus i'd really like it if there was an option to gray/hide/keep visible the other stuff in the file... sometimes it's useful to have visible references)
  3. adjust the origin for a symbol without moving the objects within the symbol (as an option) - would save a ton of work when origin needs to be moved for a lot of symbols
  4. Hey guys, is there a way to adjust the origin for a symbol without moving the objects within the symbol? I have all my symbols placed already, and would prefer not to double my workload by moving stuff and moving it again........ Thanks
  5. Has something like this been implemented in Vectorworks yet? Using 2018 and just trying to remove overlapping lines to calculate grout footage.... seems pretty hard without an automated command. I'm not a math whiz, and the shape of the surface is weird.
  6. looking for this... 7 years later... can't access the link tho anything like this available? Thanks
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm working on a show, and I just got a VWX from a lighting designer. It looks like they've placed lights within the sections I've designated, but I can see they've taken some liberties in placing additional light structures outside of the areas I've designated. I don't have a problem with this, but I'm wondering if anyone knows: Why can't I select these elements? I've tried the usual digging through layers and force selecting and digging through viewports, but I'm wondering if there's some way to obfuscate/lock elements or plugin items that I'm just not aware of... I can send a segment of the file to anyone who thinks they may have an idea about this... Thanks
  8. Hi there. I have a large arc I need to dimension... is there a foreshortened dimension tool in Vectorworks? Or maybe a jogged arc dimension tool? Thanks!
  9. unearthing this post because I need a random rotator... would be a great tool to have but what would the script need to be able to input new SYMBOL/SYMBOL NAME? Thanks
  10. LOVELY thanks!
  11. Hello, I'm trying to deform an object on an axis using the 'bend' mode. However, it will only let me bend from a point that I pick on the object. How do I set the axis somewhere else, so I can bend on a different plane? Thanks
  12. Yes - use application window is checked. None of the palettes dock.
  13. Yeah it's on BOTH. Not sure what this is supposed to do, but it's still not working...
  14. This isn't working for me. I can't place the palettes.
  15. did you ever find anything? some fonts here... http://imajeenyus.com/computer/20150110_single_line_fonts/index.shtml the guys says that he uses Rhino, so maybe switch to Rhino for the project
  16. Pat's method produced a hidden-line style rendering for me. I didn't get any AO... not sure why. What does it look like for you? Thanks for the OpenGL recommendation. Didn't realize I could do that. Fast and works well for me. Thanks
  17. Thank you both for your advice about keeping Solid Additions to a minimum. I had no way of knowing this to be an issue before, and so I'm a little confused as to why Vectorworks doesn't let me know somehow within the software.... Also I must say it's disappointing that the software won't just do what I want it to and let you mess up the model and be creative. It's a great hinderance when you spend a few hours modeling something and find that you can't do a simple deformation that you were planning on using to model. When 3D is often unreliable, there's no point in using it if 2D is reliable. I hope this gets addressed, or I'll have to resort to using outside software to create my models. Thanks again.
  18. I like to composite screenshots in photoshop as opposed to rendering with renderworks. Is there a way to render multipass like in C4D or a "white model" render? I'd like to isolate the SSAO pass from the openGL render if possible, and I really hate turning everything white... maybe there's a script that temporarily (or permanently, but undo-able) turns all objects white? Thanks in advance.
  19. Very interesting. I'm not a Rhino user (although I literally just bought MOI3D a few hours ago), but does this analysis mean that the individual surfaces aren't connected? Is Rhino usually a good judge of Vectorworks surfaces/added solids? Is there a way to explain the issue in Vectorworks, so I can avoid/fix the issue in the future? Thanks for your help Kevin.
  20. Thanks Art, please check out the file I uploaded. It contains my model with screenshots of exactly what I'm trying to achieve. Thanks Kevin. I understand what the tool is supposed to do. It just simply won't work on my model at all, regardless of how much I scale it. I've had it work on more complicated models, so I'm just confused. If it were a problem with diminishing to zero or past that point, wouldn't it be better to have the tool follow through regardless? The tool produces a fairly drastic effect, after all, so wouldn't artifacts and odd geometry be often negligible, or rather, quite noticeable/fixable?
  21. I have modeled and converted to a solid addition, and when I try taper solid, the tool fails. Why? File attached. Thanks tapersolid_notworking.vwx
  22. Could the speed be altered like with the Mac dock? Looks like people will have their own preferences, so would it make the most sense to be able to edit these to their liking? Please see the link here for reference: http://osxdaily.com/2012/03/28/change-dock-animation-speed-mac-os-x/ This is something I do on every Mac I work on, as screen real estate is a precious commodity for my graphics and drawing work, even more so on a laptop...
  23. Hi, I really like the auto-hide palette feature for work on my laptop, but I wish I could make it appear/disappear faster. Is there a way to adjust the speed? I would love it if it would appear instantly if my cursor touches the frame, and disappear instantly if my cursor leaves the toolbar. Also, is there a way to get rid of the slow-mo, blurry animation for the toolbar hide as well? It seems to be a waste of system resources for a program whose focus seems to be the speedy creation of readable build diagrams. Thanks!
  24. So am I just supposed to accept this as a shortcoming of Vectorworks? Good thing I have no allegiances to software companies. brb... checking out AutoCAD
  25. Yes, this is a pain. How do we get this issue addressed?
