  1. I don't know what service pack of 2018 you're using (SP4 is the most recent), but according to this: https://support.actlighting.com/knowledgeBase/11589468
  2. I copied that plugin to my plugin folder, restarted VW, added the export command to file -> export and it showed right up:
  3. Have you restarted VW since installing the plugin? You usually need to.
  4. This should get you in the ballpark. I don't have that particular plugin installed, but all plugins get added to the workspace more or less the same way:
  5. I see a magic new number in my service select portal. 🙂
  6. There is a third party plugin called Smart Paste from https://www.smartpaste.co.uk/ that will will let you merge/rename incoming pasted classes and will remember where you put them for the future. Not exactly what you asked for but, depending on your workflow it could help.
  7. For the love of all things holy, PLEASE let this become real. It has caused me numerous force-quits. Adding a tolerance would be amazing! A lot of DWG's I import (Venues) don't have perfect matching lines. Upvoted!
  8. I have 642 GB Free on my 1TB Mac Pro SSD. I also use hardwired ethernet to my internet to take full advantage of it's speed. (1Gbps Fiber) I don't think so. There was actually a period where I disabled Time Machine entirely thinking it might help, but there was no real discernible improvement. I use dropbox business, I have my own complaints about their app, but I haven't noticed a correlation. I know I'm not who you asked, but I'm also primarily a Mac user and experience the same sort of stuff. Vectorworks chokes all sorts of hard when dealing with large(ish) imported DWGs. Large in terms of scale, not really file size. (that my 10 year old machine handles no problem in AutoCAD) Same deal when trying to navigate around imported/scaled PDFs. VW has never really been a Stallion at it, but it seems to be getting worse with each release. When 10 year old hardware can outperform current on a 2D DWG line drawing (albeit in it's native software), that's pretty embarrassing. This is my experience with most drawings for me, as I'm usually starting from an existing DWG import.
  9. Thanks for the response Jim! Here's hoping! I'm looking forward to having a beer again with you @ Design Summit in November 🙂
  10. I started using Cinema 4D in April of 2017 and the bug existed then. So it's likely been around since 2017 was released in September of 2016 if not before. Why it hasn't been fixed? I have no Idea. I know tech support has reproduced it, I filed a bug back in October of 2017, tech support stopped responding to update requests regarding it in December. I really hope 2019 takes care of it, as it appears 2018 is a lost cause. Luckily?! Vectorworks 2018 crashes/need's to be force-quit/restarted so often on it's own that I've likely restarted between exports already.
  11. FWIW I have spent WAY more time trying to make the seating tool work than should be allowed by law. I've wasted way more brain cells than I care to admit being pissed at that thing, and quite frankly it just isn't worth the fight. Do I wish it was actually useful? You bet! But as far as I can tell, in real world use situations, it's more of a PITA then it's worth. You'll end up saving hours of time and frustration just using groups, move by points, duplicate array, rotate plan, and mirroring. I actually started a thread here last year or so asking others how they approach large seating layouts and there were some great answers from @scottmoore and @EAlexander (and others who's names escape me at the moment). EDITED TO ADD: That thread can be found here:
  12. This smells like a possible class remapping tool might become a reality 🙂
  13. Here is my test DWG export: 3D test VWX file v2018.dwg Does look like what you expect when you import it?
  14. I was able to achieve correct results by unchecking: Display Planar Objects and Project Screen Objects in the DLVP settings and exporting from a 3D view, not top/plan.... (#5 on the num pad in my case) These were my export settings: I re-imported this from the DWG export: Front View: And yes @scottmoore, I have had success exporting DLVPs to Cinema 4D, it dumps everything in the DLVP into group named after whatever class the DLVP lived on in VW. Though I have heard DLVPs don't play well with some other programs. Hopefully this helps! -W
  15. Still randomly broken in SP4. Vector-work-around is select all hoists, cut, past-in-place and then more than 50% of the time it will work. No ideal why it fails in the first place.
  16. You might try a couple times post restart and see if the problem resurfaces. The Cinema 4D export does, every time. Though a restart will fix it for an export or two.
  17. Still busted for me as of SP4. Though now I can occasionally get 2 exports before I have to restart. Also as of SP4 most of the failed files are as @RafaelPernia said @ 26kb in size. @JimW has there been any further information regarding: VSS-60589 ?
  18. Yup, I'm experiencing the same stuff. It's hands down the slowest starting program I have, which becomes 1000 times more irritating because of how many time's over the course of a work day I have to restart it, due to beach ball hangs, it no longer wanting to export to Cinema 4D, and a myriad of other stuff. Some tools are more awful at it than others. My expectations for 2019 are in the toilet just so that I could *possibly* be pleasantly surprised. to the tune of Free Fallin' by Tom Petty: I have a deadline, coming like a freight train I just want, to, draw a poly-line but the program, it stopped responding time to force-quit, restart and we'll see... Cause I’m BEACH Beach Ballin’ (Beach Balling, Yeah I’m, Beach Balling, Yeah I’m) Yeah I’m BEACH Beach Ballin’
  19. I really enjoyed that article Evan. I've been using Corona exclusively the last couple of months after talking to you and seeing your work. I totally agree with your observation on how it handles lighting. It was also cool on a personal level too, as your thoughts about being more interested in the 3D/Rendering element than the actual design process mirrors my thoughts lately. Even the work/life balance of having a wife/kid, I often duck out for a bit around 3pm to hang with my daughter while my wife is working and then resume work after she's in bed. Thanks for sharing! Your work is top notch and the bar for which I strive. I would love to see Vectorworks do some advanced tutorials/webinars/classes whatever, that go into detailing your workflow and drawing organization for shows of the scale you do and with the many outside designers you interface with, to tips and tricks for creating "lean and mean" 3D models of stadiums and such from DWGs and Revits. -W
  20. @JimW This may be broader than entertainment only so feel free to move this to General if that makes more sense. Basically, why does the Visibility tool work differently on Design Layers vs View Ports as it pertains to what class get's highlighted when hovering over Symbols and PIOs? For example.... when I use it on a Design Layer over a generic run of P&D with the Softgoods Tool, it will highlight whatever the assigned master class of that layer is. IE: Scenic-P&D, so the item level. However, highlighting that same piece of P&D on a viewport it highlights 4-SGTS-Drapery (the pieces level) why is that? The same thing seems to happen with symbols. As @C. Andrew Dunning would say the Macro vs Micro. Class Breakdown from Softgoods Toolset.
  21. Thanks @Selin for your transparency regarding this! I know there are a couple different issues that have been talked about in this thread. Is the CineRender crashing what delivers the Black/White Viewport? Just missing geometry? Or tied to all of them in some way?
  22. @JimW I'm sure you guys are closed today, just hoping all of our friends at Vectorworks are ok. Saw the news about the flooding, looked like Ellicott City isn't super far from you guys. -W
