  1. Creating a plug in for a custom fence panel;

    View choices for 2D & 3D.

If 2D 'Line & Round post' is selected, the 3D option instantly goes to '3D Simple'.  Which means that when switching between 2D & 3D, the 3D detail becomes just an outlined oblong. The options have to be adjusted to 2D 'Full Detail' to be able to select 3D 'Full View' to see full 3D detail again.

Anyone else find this incredibly annoying?  Is there a work around?

  2. These are things that really need to change in the next service pack;

    1. 'Interactive Scaling' and 'Marquee Selection' need to be green / black for on / off like the 'Snapping' tools.
    2. Need to be able to manage the positions of the 'View Bar Groups'.

Getting to the point of dreading new upgrades that seem to change things just for change sake with no sensibility.

Sheet Layer > Sheet > Layout

Sheet sounds like paper and dead tree's.

Today I would call it more likely "PDF".      [IH - that would be confusing where 'Publishing' is concerned]

But for me it is the place where I care about Layout like in InDesign or Pages.

    So "Layout".

    In German localization of VW,

Layers are called "Zeichnungsebenen" (drawing layers),

while Sheet Layers are called "Layoutebenen" (layout layers)

Where "Ebenen" does not really mean Layer (Schicht) but more

like "Level" which I would also prefer as Layers are primarily used

to have a Layer Height, separation of different content is secondary

and also primarily served by Classes.

Classes (from "Classification") are basically ok in naming.

But as any other App outside calls it "Layer",

I would switch Class name to Layer anyway for "compatibility".

    So for me please,

    Layers, Levels and Layouts ....

Stories and Reference Heights (or just Benchmarks)

    Render Materials and Building Materials

    BTW,

    PIOs are BIM Parts ....

But if this were implemented, would that mean that instead of the current two pull down menus:

    A) “Classes”

    B) “Sheet Layers and Design Layers”

now we would have three pull downs?

    A) “Classes”

    B) “Layers”

    C) “Sheets”

To me that could be even more confusing from a UI/UX perspective. Not to mention the loss of usable screen real estate for other menu items. (Unless Vw were to borrow the AutoCAD UI approach with Sheet tabs at the bottom of the page, which is a potential nightmare if you use one BIM file with everything in it and have dozens of Sheets to navigate).

While I generally agree with the sentiments in this thread — personally I prefer to stick with the current approach.

I might have missed the point you are making here, so apologies if I am.  do you mean like the image attached?

I agree, they are not layers, but to the point of referring to them in tutorials, at this point, it looks like they have to as they are called "Sheet Layers" in the actual drawing user interface.

Also, (nitpicking here 😄), sheets do not 'contain' layers, they can contain Viewports that contain layers, and classes.

But you're totally right, I only comment on this as I'm in the process of explaining the Vectorworks ecosystem to a Revit user currently on-boarding. The terminology should be changed to just "Sheets" on the drawing user interface.

    You are correct.

  6. Why on earth did the brains at VWX decide that the Attributes Pallet needed changing in 2023?.

One of the most useful things was the eye dropper tool and the ability to capture a colour from a corporate logo (or other required source) and store it.

It wasn't broken. it worked just fine.

Anyone know if it's possible to restore the 2022 pallet?

    Not happy!!!!

  7. If you are like me, I have 3 versions of VWX in my applications (there are various reasons, please don't ask why) 21, 22 & now 23.  All the icons are identical.  It's not known which version i which until you hover over the icon.

I have a solution for this, by creating a different coloured icon for each version (like it used to be).

Attached is the latest one for 2023 that is free to use.  MAC install instructions below (sorry, but I don't know what they might be for PC)

    1. Open the attached .png file in any photo editing app.
    2. Select all and 'Copy' [Command C].
    3. Go to your Vectorworks 23 file in applications and right click on the program icon (currently black & white) and select 'Get Info' [Command + i] to open the info dialogue pallet.
    4. Click on the the little icon at top left to hi-lite it.
    5. Press 'Command + P'.

    Job done.

  8. The status of ‘Greenhorn’ for forum posters is insulting and misleading.

It implies the poster is an amateur and new to VWX

just because someone doesn’t post that often should not be taken to mean they are not experienced with the program.
Recently in posting to the community I get replies that make an assumption I’m an amateur and respond accordingly.

status could quite easily just be the number of years a poster has been using the program.
    1 to 10+ would work.

it’s insulting and needs to change please.

  9. Hi Pat.
ive been using VWX since it was Minicad back in the 90’s. I’m not sure why you would suggest I should check out the demo version. Can you enlighten me please as I may be missing something?

not sure why you can’t see the 3D loci insertion points. They are definitely there. You must have something turned off in your prefs. Love to find out what it is.

As an excercise (please humour me). Drop an M10 metric 3D hex bolt from the ‘Fasteners’ tool box into a drawing.
In wireframe, zoom in on the head of the bolt and see if you can see the 3D insertion point loci.
