  1. This seems to be an incompatability issue as I have seen it in mini cad as well as vector works. You can use the scroll wheel if the cursor is in the scroll bar at the bottom or side of the screen. Would be nice if it worked properly though.
  2. I use a custom template to begin all my drawings. In it I have saved my scale and layer preferences and the like as well as custom folders for the symbols I have created and/or use most often. I open the template, give the drawing a name, save the new drawing and the template is left intact. When I want to save a new symbol in the template I import it into the template and save the template again. I often find other customizations that I save in the template as well. You can back up this template just as you would any drawing.
  3. Mark, The answer to the Q. 1 is yes. Q. 2 is correct in part with the object info pallet being the tool to use to adjust the z if the face is already created. You made me learn from this as well. Wes
  4. Mark, You can't set your roof face height from the dialog so your next best option is to set your layer height before you draw the face. Use an elevation view to measure the vertical distance from the inside top edge of the wall to the bottom of your rafter. You will have to link your wall and roof layers to do this (if your roof and walls are set up in different layers). Take that distance away from the combined height of the "z" and delta "z" in your wall layer. Set up your roof layer with the result of that calculation as your "z" height. All the roof elements drawn in that layer will have the same bird mouth height so they should all be the same pitch. If you prefer you could just nudge or move the roof face in it's current layer while viewing it in an elevation view. Don't give up. Wes
  5. You could change the object into a symbol. Put as many of them in your drawing as you want with the added advantage of being able to attach records to them and/or import them into other drawings.Select the object (in or out of the wall) then select Create Symbol (which is under Organize on my menue bar)and follow the dialog.
  6. I would like to see a bay window plug in or tool much like the create dormer tool creating a bay or bow that hangs on the wall with either square or sloped option for the underisde. [This message has been edited by Wes Poe (edited 04-29-2000).]
  7. With no small effort I have learned how to create useful worksheets. They are tailored to the way I build homes, a feature 3rd party software can't match. I started with the worksheets provided with Vector Works and experimented from there thinking through the process in the same way I would a hand drawn plan. Now I have saved in my drawing template these worksheets which can still be modified as needed.
  8. To narrow this down a little further the plug-in objects appear properly when inserted at magnifications below 80%
  9. I use an Epson 1520 an get very nice results. As for the paper I was able to buy 500 sheets of 20lb. white from a local print shop. It comes in a standard printing size of 22.5"x17.5" and I just paid them $5 to cut the width down to 17". Total cost under $40. ------------------
  10. I have used the complex window plug-in to create peaked windows ------------------
  11. Michael, I would create a worksheet. Cell one would calculate the floor area. Cell two calculates the length of the exterior walls multiplied by their finnished width (i.e. 4.5 in., 6.5 in. or ?). Cell three calculates the length of the interior walls multiplied by their finnished width. Cell four subtracts the area of the walls from the floor area.(Make sure your products are compatable before you combine them, i.e. sq ft.or sq. in.) You can make this worksheet a part of your drawing template so it will always be available. Just click on the worksheet to see your info.
