  1. Thanks, Peter, at least it doesn't cut holes any more, though it still inserts into the wall.
  2. Is there a way to prevent symbols from inserting into walls? I've got a symbol which is to be placed IN FRONT OF walls, only I can't keep it from inserting into them and cutting holes. Thanks in advance, Esther
  3. Grant, the VW definition of 3D space is one of the most weird things when stepping over from AutoCAD. 2D objects have no "definition/place" in 3d space and will simply stay where they are, whatever view you switch into. 'hybrid objects' (walls, hybrid symbols) have something like a double definition, the 2D part will vanish when switching into another view. The only way I know of to make 2d parts disappear is to create a layer-link and switch the option "project 2D objects of". Make an empty layer, make it active, go to 'create layer link' in the view menu and select the layer in question. (for further information about layerlinks see the handbook, it's a great feature). Cheers, Esther
  4. Hi there, does anybody know how to assign different pen colors in a wall definition? In order to have the outside line blue and the inside line red (or so). This would get me a great deal further while exporting to a render programm. Thanks in advance. Esther
  5. Thanks to all, Gareth's suggestion does the job. I admit I don't understand the others, so I simply isolate the layers.
  6. Is there a way to let the programm count how many of a certain symbol are in a drawing? And sort them by layer? Should be working with nested symbols as well. Thanks in advance. Esther
  7. Bob, if I'm not mistaken, there is no such thing as a hybrid object. Anything hybrid must be created as a symbol, or elsewise I haven't found out. Anybody tell me if I'm wrong.
  8. We've started working with Cinema 4d lately. Somewhere I saw an announcement of a 'special edition' of Vectorworks 10, which would allow direct Im- and Export of files. Does anybody work with this and is it worth the effort? (We would have to switch to Cinema Release 8, which in my opinion is of no advantage to us)
  9. I'm trying to do something which didn't seem in the least a problem in the beginning: for the girdle of a staircase I would draw an arc, move one of the ends along on the z-axis to the upper floor, convert it to a NURB and extrude a profile along that path ('extrude along path', isn't it). This simple plan didn't come out in the least. I couldn't even get the end of the circle up, converting it (to anything I could think of) didn't help. Finally I drew the NURBS curve by putting a number of loci, and then 'extrude along path' wouldn't work the way I expected. I finally ended up doing 'tapered extrude', but it isn't really what I wanted. And I don't even want to think about the banisters the designers will want to add.... Any tips will be welcome
  10. I have a class structure with windows having their own class. So in a 3d model I create a couple of window-symbols with all their elements drawn in class 'windows' and the symbol, too, being in class 'windows'. Still, if I insert them into walls and turn the class visibility option to 'active only', they will vanish. The same thing happens with symbols who have their elements drawn in different classes. It doesn't happen with groups. Can this be fixed? Thanks, Esther
  11. Thanks Katie for reacting so quickly. But how sure is "pretty sure"? I tried it out as well, and it seemed okay, but does anybody KNOW?
  12. Some time ago I changed the classes in our office by deleting most of the standard classes because I found them useless. Still, if I import symbols or parts of old drawings I will of course get all those stupid classes in my drawing again. I would like to remove them straightaway, only I don't know what happens to elements in symbols. Sometimes "active class only" will show nothing, while I know that some elements of a symbol are drawn in that class. So, if I delete the class in question, will objects drawn in that class be deleted, or will their class be changed to "none" (which I hope)?
  13. I would like to set a couple of people into a short 3d presentation. Does anybody know a site with a free download?
  14. Joe, make sure the symbol is set to "full break" in the symbol insertion options. (I suppose it IS a symbol). When inserting it into the wall, the object info-box must say: "Symbol in wall" For some strange reason, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't insert in the wall. After going completly crazy about it, you will start to get a certain handiness in it. (By the way, it is: "je ne SAIS quoi" I hope this helps. Esther
  15. After upgrading our VW to 9.5 the following occurs: double-clicking on a file will open MiniCAD (we keep the programm on our computers to open old files once in while) and tell me that the file can't be read. A collegue who's still refusing to delete VW9.1 will have that one opened and not even notice. Also, if anybody knows, how do you "uninstall" programms in Apple. I'm a former PC user, I can't figure out. Thanks in advance, Esther
