  1. Anyone using this successfully; sharing links with Clients?
  2. Hi, Here's a diagram I produced a while back (as a piece of research for other interests) edited to illustrate the 'customer/ specifier' journey to source product using a 3d/ BIM type workflow when you have in mind either the product or supplier you want to use (a bit different if you haven't got a product or specifier in mind). Certainly not comprehensive, but possibly of use/ interest to someone... 190513_Forum_Bimmble_graphics_specifier.pdf
  3. I find myself in agreement here. At the same time, if we don't tell them (the Manufacturers) what we need, how do they know? If you request it, even if it's too late that time, it will be there for next time, whether for you or the next Vectorworks user who comes along.
  4. Yes to both. Hyperlink function is ok for some things but in OIP as Markdd suggests...similar function to Hyperlink (possibly even simpler) to keep info. off drawing. So for example, if I have a product in mind and can't get a 3d asset for it, and haven't time to draw it I can add a link (maybe more accurate to call it a 'book mark') into OIP without the need to control the location of a load of text over my drawings, for example....
  5. Yes, and they're very helpful. However, to create native/ optimised 3d VW assets on the scale that's needed, my feeling is that Manufacturers need to be engaged and willing, and content needs updating regularly. There are quite a few good 3d content platforms now, but where's the native 3d Vectorworks content on them...?
  6. I'd like to quickly easily be able to add weblinks (which can be easily turned on and off) to any object within Vectorworks so that I can easily cross reference to Products/ finishes/ Materials. Ideally, it would be a box visible on the 'object info./ shape palette'. Ideally, it would be integral to VW interface rather than having to add it as'record' for every item?! Anyone else think this would be useful?
  7. There are a few decent 3d WC pans (Ideal Standard) in VW but quality varies. Pick what you want and email VW and IS if it's not there or doesn't work. Make it known that you want to specify their (whoever is your chosen Manufacturer) products and need native 3d content to fit your workflow...it's in their interest to support your 3d asset needs (ie. native/ optimised Vectorworks content) if they want your custom. Why should you have to spend your precious time modelling or optimising their sanitaryware 3d assets only for the next specifier to come along and have to do the same again?! Isn't 3d/ BIM supposed to save time, be more accurate?! My feeling is that Vectorworks needs to up it's profile so that Manufacturers provide native Vectorworks 3d assets as a default (rather than the typical response.. 'Vectorworks...is that like Revit?)
  8. Have set up Interior Elevations, but they run through 3d objects. Have gone back to design layer to adjust section line. Usually, it's an easy operation to add vertices to the section line marker and make a staggered section line. Only try as I may, it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?! If I click on the section line once (on design layer) I get blue handles. Twice, I get reshape tool (add vertex mode and move 'reshape handles') neither of which seem to do anything, as no 'reshape handles' are present...? It would be great to have some kind of a tool whereby if the line runs through 3d objects they get hidden

  10. You've most likely solved thie by now but if not...go to the marker on the design layer and change the two variables highlighted in the attached image. I hope you don't mind if I 'hijack' your post on a few interior elevation related comments/ queries which I wonder if anyone(/VW) has any view on/ remedy to. 1) VW default seems to be to generate a scale on the sheet layer elevation viewports (so you have to manually turn it of on each elevation on the sheet file if you don't want it to displayed - often the case for me). Is there another way? A tick box to turn this off early on in the process would save much editing of viewports. 2) The elevation marker is generated centrally justified (I'm yet to meet an architect/ designer places them that way - more usually left justified, sometimes right). Can this be set to default to the side? 3) The default elevation depth is very deep and in a large file can lead to lengthy waits while VW generates elevations(s). Can default be set to say, 1m, 5m 10m rather than what seems to currently be the depth of the building (through countless walls) to avoid the need to manually amend (by flipping between sheet and design layers)? All minor things in themselves, but add up to a considerable investment in time, especially when you have multiple 10-20 drawing sheets each with 4 elevations to set up!
  11. Hi, Have you tried .obj export from Blender, then import into VW? Mark
  12. ...an indication of turning circle may be useful for space planning purposes too!
  13. I've only looked at the Forbo textures which seem pretty good (one of the ranges I wanted was missing though). The biggest challenge I find using textures in VW (apart from finding a good image for the product you want in the first place) is setting the scale right. Some Manufacturers (see image) show an 'image size' on their website, which really helps.
  14. The issue it seems is to do with a corrupt windows 10 profile; on a new profile Mtextur works...and it works really well.
  15. still having this issue - any ideas, anyone?! Possibly one the most useful vectorworks functions of late and I can't get it to work! Really frustrating.
  16. Hi, This issue has just reoccurred. Can't seem to recreate it at will unfortunately. Multiple drawing windows are/ were open (in this case 4 or 5) and some of the drawings open were converted from older VW versions at some point. Nothing remarkable otherwise. M
  17. A really useful function in VW I find is the ability to have two/ multiple versions of a drawing open and being able to copy and 'paste in place' between them; great for producing option drawings. However, slight annoyance is that in use, this function often ceases to work. I'm pretty sure there's a bug here, so you end up with the working window selected but any drawing/ editing is implemented on the 'non-selected' window. Anyone else getting this? Work-around is to close and re-open VW or create symbols and import, but all very inconvenient in comparison to simple copy and paste function. PS - I'm on latest service pack
  18. For any Vectorworks Forum users following this post, the problem was tracked to a corrupt class. Remedy was to delete the class, moving any objects onto a newly created class.
  19. ..a class ( that I created) that has a glass texture assigned to it. I've tried changing it to the 'glazing/ clear' class, but no difference (class 'glazing -clear' has texture 'Glass Clear RT' assigned to it
  20. Thanks Tamsin, Image to SP2 now installed. Issue still there (I've re-booted machine etc.) Hi David, The open GL image has black outlines around objects. All the doors are on a 'door' class, windows on a 'window' class; all object atttributes are set 'by class'. All glazing is set to 'class texture' (which is set under 'edit classes/ textures') and the same texture is used for all the doors/ windows that display as expected, and the ones that don't (as far as I can see). I've tried deleting the glass texture and replacing with VW default glass, to no avail. See images attached (outlined image is O-GL); these are newly inserted windows and doors; the top light on the double doors and the window both display as expected in both OGL and FQR; but the vision panels on the doors don't. Maybe a clue there? By changing settings I've managed to make things worse as one door that was ok, now isn't!
  21. Hi Everyone, I've made a model using door styles. Strange thing, I have a door style that is inserted twice. In 'open gl' the glass in both displays correctly (ie. transparent). However, with 'final quality renderworks' the glazing on one instance is transparent, whilst on the other it is opaque. I've tried deleting the erroneous door and replacing with a new instance, and tried using 'create similar instance' tool. Also tried deleting, closing VW and re-inserting. Even stranger, when I draw a new wall and insert the same door, the glazing is opque in both open gl and final quality renderworks. I'm kind of feeling I've missed something obvious but not sure what it is?! Any thoughts/ advice much appreciated as one door is taking far too much effort! PS - this is using VW2019 (no service packs yet installed)
