  1. Peter, Thanks for the feedback. As a general rule of thumb, that advice works. I realize, however, that I've stumbled over the edge into BUGGY territory. After a lot of troubleshooting and my fortunate encounter with another posting (at the bottom of this entry) I figured out what is going on. Apparently VW-11 doesn't correctly class doors and windows made with earlier versions of the door and window tool. That is, doors and windows created with the new VW 11 PIO's class correctly. However, if one were to add Simple Door-2, Simple Window-2, French Door ... to the workspace and create an object, certain objects (namely trim and doors) won't class correctly. That is, they will maintain NONE attributes no matter what you do. To the best of my memory, I happened upon this situation because I updated my file from an earlier version of VW. So, all of the window and door objects retained their settings from the obsolete tools. Is anyone else able to verify this? p.s. Now that I'm using the new door tool - I notice that it includes a mandatory apron. Whereas, earlier versions of the tool required you to build one manually. Is it possible to turn the apron on and/or off?? Related Post-Door Classing Irregularities
  2. I have my windows and doors set up via the PIO with Trim-1 set to Style-10. Regardless of what style (class) I set Trim-1 to (or Trim-2 for that matter), there is no change to the drawing. Sashes and glazing both respond to style/class changes. If I alter the render tab, to "class texture" vs. "none", I can set up a texture in the Window Class which will render the trim, but in this case, a simple "paint" color is preferred. Any ideas? 3. This isn't my area of expertise, but I recently became aware fo an add-on to Vectorworks that appears to do everything you're asking and more. Here's the link: http://www.interiorcad.com/
  4. Robert, I've already translated the older drawings into VW-11, so I'm cutting and pasting within the same application. I will go ahead and contact tech support, if the method that I'm using seems sound. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. I just upgraded to VW-11 and am in the process of upgrading a number of my in-process files to utilize the VW-11 standards for viewports, layer structures, sheets, etc.. I've gone about doing this by making a VW-11 template and then transfering the drawing data to the correctly set up file. My hope was to be able to just cut and paste the objects (by layer and or class if necessary) into the new file. This has worked for some of the data, but when walls are pasted into the new file, they crash the program. Is there a more expedient way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Or, is there a way to overcome the fatal problem associated with pasting walls? Thanks!
  6. Text Classes! I've been wanting this aspect for years as well. My hope would be that text attributes could be added to class definitions in the same way that line weight or fill attributes are assigned. That way, they could be universally accessed within existing classes. Also on this note, It would be very handy to be able to assign hotkeys to text attributes. Thanks.
  7. Actually, Archfoms makes a great product for beam sizing that I have been using for years. It's a template that runs within MS Excel - (and yes, it does run on the Mac) Here's a link: http://www.archforms.com/maxbeam.html
  8. Thanks Katie. Please do add it to the wishlist. When implemented it would act like the styles feature in MS Word or Pagemaker.
  9. Is there a way to control text settings by class? It would be most helpful to be able to control font, style, and point size via the classes. Is this possible?
  10. Thanks, that helped... it all makes sense to me now.
  11. Does anyone understand how to use the "Control Offset" portion of the wall tool? I hope and suspect that it allows one to shift the centerline of the wall a fixed amount from the line traced by the mouse. This would allow footings to be centered under stemwalls by tracing the outer perimeter of the wall. Yet, there are no visible results when a value is added to the "Control Offset" box. Any help would be appreciated. - Thanks
  12. I'm having the same problem as wwlightning. The installation software confirms that it has all necessary files, but when run will lock up the computer. The installer log reads as: Friday, April 12, 2002 4:16 AM Beginning installation.Web Update to VW9.5.1Type of Install: Custom InstallSelected Packages:VectorWorks 9.5.1(that's it...) Configuration:Mac G4: 466, OS 9.1 , 384mb ram, Carbon Lib v.1.5. Any Ideas?
  13. Thanks to all of you - it worked! MikeB- Yes, I did have the glazing class set to transparent, by glazing I believe you mean Windows Main and Windows Spec. I set the exterior, interior, and mid surfaces all to transparent. Matthew-Yes, the window correctly showed up as "Simple Window 2 in wall." - I expect this tip will come in handy later on. Katie- Third time was the charm. I found that the styles were in fact over-riding what I thought was a correctly set class texture. I now have a better idea as to how the two relate. Thanks again!
  14. The Bubble Diagram tool doesn't seem to be working properly. Even when the "opaque" setting is selected, the relationship lines overdraw the bubbles making them illegible. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks, VW 9.5 , Mac OS 9.1
  15. How does one make windows transparent? I've selected "use transparency" and tried everything form Open GL to the highest Renderworks setting, but all of my window and door objects render as opaque gray surfaces. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
