  1. I want to set up some 3d loci to create a 3d site model. When I insert a 3d loci I keep getting the message that "created 3d loci is not visible". VW is set to class none, all classes are visible and the class visibility in the view menu is set to show/snap/modify others. I have tried in plan view, top view, iso view and front view. Same result. 2d loci works fine. I have tried to set up the 3d loci in a new blank file but get the same result Any ideas what I am doing wrong? thanks SOLUTION FOUND PS Found the solution - there is an option for hiding 3d loci in preferences display below the hide show light objects option
  2. Hi My current Macbook Pro (late 2015) is slow with VW 2019 / VW2020. I have waited for the Macbook Pro 16" to come out. I am in Australia and end of year sales at various electronics stores are selling it at $400 cheaper than the Apple Store for the standard off the shelf models. Upgrading the specs means getting it from Apple and spending a lot more money ($1240 at least). The size of the hard drive is not an issue as I do not keep much on my laptop. I have a souped up 2015 Imac in the office - it will be significantly slower than the new off the shelf 16" mind you according to the Cinebench R20 scores. I will upgrade the Imac sometime soon. I like to have 2 computers - can render on one and work on reports on the other when in the office and I do a lot of my work on the move both for my own clients and for other architects hence I need a laptop. Has anyone had experience with the 16" performance with the i9 8 core, 16gb, 2.3 ghz 4gb, 5500m graphic chip for 3d VW for and rendering? I can upgrade the 16gb memory later but NOT the graphics card and it's memory. If the off the shelf model is fine with rendering in VW etc I will take the saving and put that money and the money I would spend on upgrading memory etc towards a new desktop. Thanks PS I am in a Mac environment and all of the architects I work for use Apple so a PC is not an option.
  3. Hi I use a Logitech M570 roller ball mouse with Vectorworks which has some customisable buttons. I have customised the buttons for various standard VW shortcuts but would like to be able to use it to edit the attributes of objects. I can select an object and right click and access a menu with options like edit properties etc none allow me to edit the attributes - ie change the fill or line weight. ( Right click on my mouse is the same as pressing control then clicking on the object ) I can input a short cut to open and close the attributes palette but this does not allow me to edit the attributes of a selected object. Does anyone know how I can create a shortcut I can put into the mouse so I use a mouse button to select and edit the attributes of a object? I suspect I need a VW script to make the shortcut but am not familiar with scripting. Thanks
  4. The "Window" tool in VW does not have a blind option but it does allows you to add shutters to the window - you can customise the shutters to make them look like a blind. Make a window object with the window tool, keep it selected then go to the settings in the object info palette and select interior shutters. Tick the include interior shutters box and then input a negative number in the "offset from jamb" option so that the shutters are in front of the window not beside it. You can create a custom symbol that looks like a blind and use that by clicking on the "custom shutter" option then selecting your blind symbol. You will need to make the blind half the width of the window as the system automatically creates 2 shutters so effectively you need two blinds. Adjust the offset so that the 2 "blinds" meet neatly in the middle to look like one blind. You may find you need to adjust where the blind sits within the symbol to get it sit in the right position against the window. Hope that works for you
  5. Crops do not work when you have more than one shape inside the crop. When you go into the image to edit the crop, delete the crop shape already there first or as Pat suggests simply edit the shape already there. Keep in mind that you can use polygons and circles as crops not just rectangles so can create complex shapes to suit what you need to hide and show of the image. Deleting the crop will restore the image to it's full extent.

  7. A few years ago I worked on a project with roofs slanted at an angle so that the edges of the roof are not square to the angle of the roof. I was able to extract the actual size of the roof plane as a flattened form so that the run of the roof, the angles of the edges and the number and length of SIPS roof panels could be determined. I cannot remember the exact method I used and cannot repeat the technique in VW 2019. Unfold surface does not work on a roof form as it is not a developed curved form. I have tried extraction, ungrouping then extracting surface, converting to 3D polygons in top view and iso, converting into nurbs then extracting etc etc. A screen shot of the roof is attached Does anyone know how to extract a roof plane from a roof object in VW 2019 so that the shape reflects the actual run of the roof.
  8. The new iPad Pros, just released at the end of October, 2018, apparently are faster than many laptops. Is there any news of Nemetschek working on a version of Vectorworks for the iPad that has full, or near to full, functionality ? Not just mark up and measure and change views etc as in Nomad. Would other people like to see a functional VW version for iPad?
  9. I just got this from Julian Carr of Ozcad who made Windoor Might help others too. It is likely you are using design layer viewports and the schedule is counting objects in these too. You can fix it this way. 1. Open the worksheet for editing and choose Database Headers from the Worksheet's View menu. 2. Right click in the very left cell with a single number beside a little diamond and choose Edit Criteria. 3. Uncheck the two boxes that refer to Design Layer Viewports, then click OK. This will exclude objects in these viewports. The worksheet should now update correctly.
  10. HI I use Windoor for my windows and doors. I have generated a Windoor schedule with images but it keeps creating a schedule with 3 copies of each window object. Each Windoor object has the plan and elevation ID switched on. I experimented with switching those off in case the program was counting the object and the 2 ids resulting in 3 copies. It still came up with 3 copies. Has anyone else had this problem and was able to solve it? Ta PS I just got this from Julian Carr who makes Windoor Might help others.
