  1. Yes, they are more robust, but what I was saying is that the cabinet object plug-in has existed within VW for many years. The characterization of the original poster was interpreted by me as though they were thinking these were a new addition to the program altogether. What VW12 ships with is more than enough for most people, and products like InteriorCAD are likely to be a boon to people whose work can justify it (especially in presentation situations like Charles mentioned.) I have not created any multi-species cabinets lately but can see the point of more classing functionality. Glass doors anyone? I recently did a custom cabinet for a project that had doors in the center and drawers on the sides within a single frame and with a furniture leg face at the front kick. The VW plug-in can do something like that with some workarounds (and adding detail manually to the ungrouped object), but it's probably not something that most people would do, and so I don't expect the plug in to be able to do that. You can render an entire "Home Depot" style cabinet layout with it, and that's probably the threshold it needs to work to. Just like the window and door objects (also improved in VW12) can do most, but not all, combinations out there.
  2. Maybe you have already checked this, but make sure that the page scaling option inside your print window is not set to 'scale to fit.' This can sometimes make a drawing print smaller than the actual PDF is really set for because of the difference between the PDF margins and the printer margins.
  3. Those fields are used to store data that is required for the plug-ins but should not be modified by the user. I doubt if there's any secret plan - many plug-ins have them.
  4. That plug-in has been part of the product since VW8 (circa 1998/99), I believe. You may find a third party add-on like InteriorCAD may be what you're looking for: http://www.interiorcad.com/
  5. Contributing it to a web site like VectorDepot (http://www.vectordepot.com) would probably be the best way to reach VW users, as they already act as a clearinghouse of VW resources.
  6. Yes, I do the same thing. Popping up the dialog is part of the PDF driver process -- I've used Acrobat Pro on both Windows and Mac systems, and it does that for all programs when selected as the driver.
  7. Yes, I'm on a G5 PowerMac running 10.4.3. Adobe PDF 7.0 is one of the printer choices in my printer dialog with Adobe Acrobat Professional installed. I then choose the 'Batch Print' command (under the file menu) in VW12 Designer and go. It works fine for me.
  8. I have used the "Batch Print" command and my Adobe Acrobat Professional driver to do it without problems. I don't know of a way to automate it without using a third-party PDF driver.
  9. If you use programs like SketchUp or AutoCAD in addition to VW, having them all behave very similarly (as they do in VW12) is a godsend. I flip a lot between the three (sometimes all in the same day!) and it's one less thing I'll have to think about.
  10. There is always room for improvements and enhancements, but it does what it does do well. The fact that it works like the viewports is helpful. I look forward to being able to introduce it into my projects that are in Schematic Design and Design Development where possible.
  11. I have the same problem. I'll submit it as a bug to NNA.
  12. Taproot, Still happy with your 110plus nr? I'm thinking about picking one up while the rebates on it are still available. I'm running a G5 with Tiger 10.4.1 on it.
  13. What OS version are you using? I'm guessing it's probably XP or Win2000. I've been seeing the same problem in WinXP. No workaround I know of except to restart. Fortunately, NNA knows of the problem. Regards, Kevin
  14. See page 1-7 of the manual. As always, check the manual when in doubt!
  15. Ed, Check out pages 6-16 to 6-18 in the ARCHITECT manual. You do have the capability to generate the notes placed in a drawing in a worksheet. From there you can export the workshet using the 'Export Worksheet' menu command under the File menu. I don' t know what specific format MasterSpec looks for, but this is probably the best way to export this data into a format that can be massaged into what MasterSpec needs.
  16. Vidar, This may just be a misunderstanding about the cloud tool -- the one in your ARCHITECT workspace is a new tool that ships only with ARCHITECT. I believe it was inadvertantly left out of the ARCHITECT documentation, so that doesn't make this any clearer! What you do is draw a freehand form and it will draw a revision cloud along the shape of the freehand form. One click starts the freehand line and a second click finishes it. Give it a try and see if my description makes sense.
  17. Ed, Check out Appendix 3 of the ARCHITECT Manual. It may give you the info. you're looking for.
  18. Fred, I understand your original point about the symbols being too large for you at 1/4" scale. What I'm saying is that symbols are, by their definition, a fixed size, meaning that if you place that same symbol on 1/16" scale layer, you may percieve it to be too small for what you'd like. One of the wishlist items for VectorWorks 9 is the ability to have symbols be scalable, by which I mean that you could have a 1:1 symbol defined (at the printed size scale) and then "scale" it for what your layer scale is. For instance, you could have it scaled to 1:48 for a 1/4" sheet and 1:96 on a 1/8" sheet so they appear the same when both are printed. Until this capability exists, the only recourse is to edit the symbol information and re-size the elements inside as needed, whether it be for 1/8" scale, 1/4" scale or even 1/2" scale. Hope this clears up my previous information.
  19. Until VectorWorks supports scalable symbols, this will always be an issue. Take heart, though -- it is on the wishlist for VectorWorks 9.

    Key Notes

The different note types of ARCHITECT each have a component for creating the output blocks of full text. These commands are in the 'Notes' menu under a Subheading 'Place Notes.' Pages 6-10 thru 6-34 detail the entire suite of notation items; check out pages 6-16, 6-25 and 6-32 for placing these note blocks. Hope this info helps.
  21. Roy, Usually situations like this are just a matter of the information being either hidden or not copied because of a layer visibility setting...I'll explain each: 1. Layer Visibility: In your DWG import file, make sure that your layer and class visibility options (under the Organize menu) are set to show/snap/modify others when you do the copy/paste routine. 2. Hidden items: It's also possible that the information is in the new file, but the class that it's in is turned off. Try turning on all your classes and see if it shows up. Class visibility can be changed from the Classes item in the Organize menu. (If you're not familiar with manipulating class visibility, the visibility options are covered on page 3-19 of the VectorWorks 8.5 manual.) I'd try #2 first, eliminate that as a possibility and then try #1.
  22. Roy, Have you considered starting with the VA Setup Assistant, creating the format you need for the project, then creating a second blank file, importing the DXF/DWG into it, and then using copy/paste to transfer the info to the file created using Setup Assistant?
  23. Bruce, The folder you should select is the VectorWorks folder...when you install, there should be a button that you select to make the currently highlighted folder be the destination folder. For example, if your VectorWorks folder is in an Applications folder, go ahead and browse to inside the Applications folder and then highlight the VectorWorks folder. Then select the button below the browse window to make that the folder that the info goes into. Hope this helps.
  24. At this time, there is no way within VectorWorks 8.5 to review the status of Layer Links for Layer status and inclusion/exclusion of 2D items. This is an item in our wishlist for a future version of VectorWorks, though.
  25. Depending on the record you're attempting to edit, you may not be able to remove some fields. For example, ARCHITECT uses some fields (like 'ID') to track information that is placed by other features in ARCHITECT (the ID Tools.) Therefore, some fields are protected by ARCHITECT for this reason. That may be what you're seeing.
