  1. I think theres something to the Virtual Memory Theory. Since I turned it off I haven't crashed while panning. I hope DiehlGraphsoft will resolve this because when I'm Rendering complex models I have to turn on my VM.
  2. It Happens All the time. If I use the wall tool draw my wall then I insert doors into the walls using the door tool ( plug-in objects ) the door I insert will not display, the wall appears as if it hasen't changed, no door, no hole nothingnuntil I zoom, and then the door displays normally. But every time I insert the door this happens. I have a Gforce 32 mb Nvidia vidio card, 256 mb of ram and an 800 mhz P3 processor.
  3. I haven't had the Open GL crash so I guess I should count my blessings.
  4. I just wanted to move this back to the top. Is anyone else having this problem. Its quite annoying
  5. Thanks for the response
  6. Ive had problems with moving the paper too. not only will it screw up your model if you move the page but it will also screw up your referenced sheets. This is really a serous problem.

  8. I've posted my problems with freezes on a G4 w/ OS9 an stillhavent found a solution. It seem to have someting to do with screen regen becuse it happen alot when I grab an object and drag it to the side of the screen so it automatically pans. I tried turning off my vidio accleration extensions but this did not help. So I Dont Know. But on another subject Adobe has a new version of ATM for OS9 I Down loaded it and installed it and it seems to have helped with several other problems in VW(slow regen of worksheets, etc.)
  9. Neil- The reason that your render works workspace is in the wrong location is that the default location to load RW is wrong. The installer puts it into the plug-ins folder you need to change this to the vectorworks folder and everything will be put in the right place.(the renderworks workspace will be in the workspaces folder etc.) Shaun-This has taken me a while to figure out but here's what I've come to understand about the Export Image Dialoge Box. The resolution settings have no effect on file size or export time. The size of the image is measured by pixles so if you change your dpi from 72 dpi (dots per inch) to 300 dpi all you've done is changed the physical size (in inches) not the file size ( in pixles). If it is taking too long to export, try reducing the number of pixles. The two numbers are constrained so changing one changes the other. What this appears to do is reduce the number of calculations VW has to do. Once the image is exported you can use any image manipulation program (Adobe Photoshop) to change size of the image to what you want and print from there. I hope this helps and I can sympathize with you. It has taken us some time and frustration to get satisfactory results but VW and RW do work and they work well for the money. Also look at your system. You need a fast chip and lots of ram to export anything complex in a short period of time.
  10. I tried to disable all of my graphics accleration extensions but that didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  11. I have a PC 800Mhz 128 Mb ram and a 32 Mb Vidio Card. when I inset a plug in object into a wall it will not display until I zoom in or out. Panning dosent work. any Suggestions
  12. Ive noticed one pattern with the freezing Ive experienced with the new G4. When I grab an object to drag it across the screen and I get to the edge of the screen VW starts to pan automatically. Every so often (enough to be a problem) the program will freeze and I have to force quit. I'm running the 8.5.2 beta, but I had this problem on 8.5.1.
  13. Also try in your VW preferences deselect the opaque smart curser
  14. One Simple thing that would make VW easier to use (for me at least) would be: In the pull down menu for layer selection there is a icon next to each layer that indicates if the layer is in 2d or 3d, it would be a huge help if this icon could show the layer color as well. That way by pulling down that menu you could quickly understand the layer structure of your drawing. Thanks

  16. Sounds fishy to me. I have been working on a 6.5 Meg file with multiple textures and a DTM. It never takes more than 10 min to render the image as large as an E size sheet. So this makes me wonder by render do you mean print, export, or simply render on screen?(several people in our office use these term to say the same thing) Now we don't print renderings straight out of VW. We typically export them as an Image file and then print them from photoshop. The exporing time can vary from 40 min to several hours depending on the size and complexity of the image, but usually we can get acceptable results out in about an hour. Also what is your system and hardware?

Sorry to tell you this but I know the Quick Draw 3-D engine can't, mostly becuse it cannot render transparency. As far as render works I really dont think it will either. For something that sophisticated you need 3-D max or Form Z. Hopefull someone will let me know if I'm wrong
  18. Do you mean Exporting image files? If so it sounds like you need the latest version of Quick Time on your G-3. Your G-4 probably came installed with it. You should be able to install it from the VW disk but to get the latest version go to the apple web site.
  19. I have a question for the tech guys. I'm using VW with RW installed. When I render using the QD3D engine transparent materials render as solid, except while I'm rotating the view the object while it is rendered in QD3D. The cool thing about this is that when the light source hit the rendered transparent object right you get a sheen across the object. It's nice because you can understand the transparence better without having to render with the raymaker engine (which can take a while with transparent and reflective objects) My question is, is there a way for the QD3D engin to display transparent objects as transparent all the time not just while rotating the view. Thanks
  20. I have a G4 400 with 256M ram. Ive been building a fairly conplex model for the last 2 day (6.5M) Ive notice that over the day it takes vectorworks a longer and longer to render in both the Quick Draw and Ray Maker Engins. If I shut down the computer and restart, I can render very quickly again, for awhile and then it beging to slow down again. Any body else have this problem?
  21. I second the motion for more shaders or at least the ability to edit them like in form z
  22. I use Vw on a mac at work and a PC at home. At home I'm about to purchase a new computer and am considering getting windows 2000. From what I've read it sounds incredibly stable for a MS windows OS. Is VW able to run on windows 2000 and what version do I need? Win 98 version or the Win NT version?
  23. I've had trouble as well. I posted a message on this board earlier "G4 OS9 and Vectorworks". The tech guy said their working on it and would E-Mail me as soon as they found something. Thats all I know
  24. Is there another way to create a glass texture other than using the glass shader in the creation of the texture? I havent been very happy with the glass shader because it tends to reflect too much and gets kind of burned out when there are too many light sources. Any Suggestions?
  25. I dont know about that. Vector Works does run and works pretty well. I'm just finding that It crashes a couple times a day and is querky. From what I understand the G4's have the new velocity chip which acclerates the processor. Most software manufacturers haven't begun to take advantage of this new technology. I'm hoping with the next sweep of software up-grades, many of my problems will go away. I'm also not sure if my problems are G4 related or OS 9 related. Its hard to tell because you can't load anything earler than OS 9 onto a G4. In fact you can't even boot off a CD with anything earlier than OS9. I tried to use Norton Utilitis off a CD and changed my start up disk to the CD but the G4 skiped the 8.6 system folder on the CD and booted off the hard drive anyway. I'd say just keep in mind that things may not go as smoothly as you'd like for a while.
