  2. Thanks, it does sound like it's been an issue from the past. I've never had the problem till now. Started with a sloped slab for a roof. These roofs also have modifiers and several components and edge extensions so its kind of a complicate object. But it has also happen when i had a simple 4" concrete flat slab. so Im not sure I can blame it on complicated roof slab. sloped roof slab with modifiers to get the odd shape works but i have to rebuild it every few days or never touch it Im not sure how else to draw a shed roof with an odd footprint and have some components overhang and some stop at the wall I can be the only that as ever had this condition
  3. 2021 document. slabs are disappearing. while trying to edit them. I have redrawn them several times from scratch, any updates with this bug.
  4. We are using google drive file stream. All working from home. One user is on PC and one is on mac. We have the network protocol set to SMB we have been successful at working, sharing and saving our project. We have gotten a message about permission being changed and not being able to commit our work. (see image) we can rebuild from saved copies and get things going again but the problem sees to keep showing up. Its becoming a serious problem with our work flow any thoughts on this issue

  10. I would like to set up a Data tag that will pull floor and building area from a massing model. I am not sure how to assign the data fields to a massing model object Any thoughts?

From the perspective of creating and maintaining drawings standards: Is there a way to have a class in one document and have it referenced in another document, then make a change in the class attributes and have it change in the referenced document. (as you might with a symbol) Also is there a way to rename a class and have it be renamed in the other referenced documents.
  12. Wow I think we are in a similar school of thought about working with vectorworks in a small office, I can absolutely relate to everything you said. I class the heck out of everything and use the attributes and override appearance in the viewports when needed. And the more I "BIM" it up, the more classes I seem to need. --------- This is a off topic but I am interested in how you work with "new", "existing" and "demolition". Example, I end up having 3 symbols for toilets, one for each possible instance "new', 'existing', and 'demolition". Add a fourth if you get into future. of course I need to have more than one type of toilet symbol. I also have a plumbing class for each Instance, AN-Plumbing, AE-Plumbing, AD-Plumbing (black lines, gray lines, red dashed lines set in the attributes) Every thing I do is multiplied by 3. Its crazy but everything is controlled and constant.

  16. Sure here's my reasoning for wanting to link items. I have to many library items to all be in one document. It just feels to big maybe it doesn't mater. So I have a kitchen sink symbol, and a kitchen sink cabinet, and maybe a typical kitchen layout with misc kitchen items including appliances. It's great to be able to go in and grab the sink, maybe I want to grab the entire kitchen layout at a place holder. All of these items want to be in the same document. I also have toilet room items (commercial and residential) they also want to be with the kitchen sink (its all plumbing related). So I have grouped library items in a way that any overlapping building blocks are all in the same document. Maybe I add under counter lighting to cabinets, is this light fixture part of the Plumbing/Millwork document or part of the Electrical / Lighting document. should I now add all electrical items to the millwork document instead of keeping with the mechanical items I might use in a ceiling plan? another example is a large wall section detail with symbols of studs and brick. Might want to include a door or window head detail. This document would want to include all typical wall details so I only need to maintain one brick or stud symbol. I also need to have my typical wall types that use the brick and stud symbols. Might be nice to have a typical wall section A in one document and typical wall section B in another and have the concrete block update to both wall section document What I have works but it can become a tangled web if I think about it too much.
  17. Thanks, I agree about starting with a clean document with only a few items. Some projects need to be complex but generally they start off simple, and having everything in there is cumbersome. Sometimes they never reach the complex document set up. Wondering if the documents in the workgroup library are linked together in some way so the classes and symbols that appear in more than one file stay in sync? I will check out the workgroup library, haven't used that yet.
  18. Looking for a best practice for maintaining standard classes, symbols, line, hatches and such. What I have so far gets me there but its still messy I have had one document to place all of my standard parts, such as Classes, symbols, Hatches. I have a practice of putting everything I may use a second time in one document so I know where to get it. It started off as a dumping ground I started to sort with classes, layers and symbol folders so I can find what I need, and they are ready to use It's now a respectable amount of elements As it has grown I have had to split off the document into 4 or 5 documents to try to manage the size Separating items has problems because things like plumbing and millwork want to work together in a drawings I end up having a document that has plumbing, millwork and appliances My class naming also evolves as the type of info I need to control changes, also the new class sorting has made some naming practices obsolete. I'm at a point where I would like to be able to control classes, lines hatches all in one place, Change it in one document and have it update in the others I believe I understand linking and using project sharing, but I have not found a method that pulls it all together for me. Wondering what others have come up with to manage their libraries.
  19. Thanks, It works for me sometimes but not always. I'm sure once you get the feel it, its second nature. If I stuck with piano lessons as a child, maybe my brain and fingers would be able to talk to each other and master this move.
  20. when i use the push pull tool it doesn't subtract. I hold the alt/option key. it has work a few time but can get it even time. what am i missing
  21. I've had problems trying to use the my old space labels as well as trying to move to the new data tag system. I've asked two people at Vectorworks to show me a working document and/or procedure for using the new data tags to fill a room finish schedule. I haven't had any response. I'm at a loss
  22. The 2019 Data tag tool looks really good. Tagging objects is simple but I cannot figure out how to use the information properly. The space labels I had set up in 2018 for finish plan and floor plans no longer work in 2019. I think I can modify the graphics of the new room data tags but I can't get the info to layout correctly in a room schedule. I cannot find any procedures on how to tag a space and generate a room schedule base on the 2019 data tag tool. I'm sure I can come up with a work around but there has to be a procedure that Vectorworks has worked through using the 2019 tool sets. How is Vectorworks designed to tag a space and make a room finish schedule? Is there a file or video out there that can show me?
  23. Existing, Demo and Proposed work flow in a BIM world I see a number of post on the subject of how to work with Existing, Demo, and Proposed items in a drawing set. All of the answers look like work arounds that are fine for simple drawings or a 2D drawing. Building a model using stories, styles and BIM objects change everything. The more I work with VectorWorks the way I believe it is designed to work the easier it is be to build and maintain standards and transition between versions. To work in the BIM world it is important it is to control lots of objects with classes and think of layers as floor levels. Problem with setting up a basic architectural drawing I believe a core process of anyone using VectorWorks for Architecture is to draw existing walls and doors, be able to turn some walls and doors into demo work, then add new doors and walls. I can do all of this and maintain my building model, but I need to create 3 versions of every class and/or style. Setting up classes or styles for one project is not a big deal but you don't want to customized every item in every project you work on. Setting up templates, symbols and styles for new, existing and demo is really to much to manage. Proposed Solution for VectorWorks to consider Draw your walls and insert your doors Click the doors and or walls you want and designate them as "demolition, proposed, existing, phase one or phase two" This could be managed with a check box in the object info pallet or as sub class. (maybe even a right click with the mouse) The class might be "door main and a sub class might be "door main - Existing" You would need be able to control visibility and graphics but not have to manually make then assign all the parts of a wall or door to another class You might even be able to turn on auto classing A bonus feature might be: If you demo a door you tell it how to infill the hole in the wall, maybe a new wall or a new door.

I am laying out an acoustical ceiling in a building, It looks like I need to draw the ceiling twice, first with the ceiling tile tool for 2d drawings and a then with the ceiling tile slab for 3d drawings. Old workflow Use the Ceiling tile tool. I create poly from walls and change the poly to a ceiling tile object. Then adjust the grid to fit in the room and lights the way I want. This has worked well for 2d drawings. New Workflow I started by creating a slab from the walls and use the ceiling tile slab that is already in vector work. This made a convincing acoustical ceiling in 3d but It does not seem to show up as a grid ceiling in 2d. I also need to adjust the grid to fit each room. The flow between modeling and construction documents has come a long way. I can't believe there is not a way to layout a ceiling grid quickly and have it work for 2d and 3d Am I missing something?
