  1. It's a 2024 issue. If I export to and open in 2023, it appears to work. Too bad, because I liked quite a few 2024 features.
  2. Just a heads up, The file is a bit over 700 Mb. The Elevation should look like the Top Image, but It looks like the bottom image. When I pull out pieces of the file and try to replicate the problem, it seems to do what it is supposed to. When I go to "Edit Section in Place" it looks correct. it also looks correct in Shaded. I admit I'm not great at keeping my working planes under control, but none of the problem Items here are screen plane. They are drawn on surfaces to represent Graphics. In the past they have been hidden by solid elements, they now show through. MT Model Copy.vwx
  3. Oh! I see there's a new Update (build 3)! and.... Nope.
  4. I use dot dashed crossed lines to designate graphics in my models. At the last update suddenly they all appeared even if they are blocked by solid objects. this is obviously a major problem for me. Is this a setting I can undo?
  5. I'm having this issue 2 years later. Has there been any explanation / Solution. It was working last Friday, but now it's Monday. I cannot adjust my walkthrough views. Restarting Vectorworks worked temporarily.
  6. I just had a client use a Viewer for the first time. I was surprised that they couldn't see the textures. If the viewer's main function is to show your work to the client, who often can't visualize very well, it seems that enabling textures is a pretty important feature to omit.
  7. awsome, that is a feature of Nurbs curves that I didn't know about!
  8. BINGO! that sounds like the answer!. Thanks! Now, hopefully I will remember this the next time I need it!
  9. Thank you, That is a good way to make a Tipi, not quite my question, but useful, in that I'd forgotten about the draped surface command.
  10. Yes, thank you, that is a good way to make a Tipi. I guess i should rephrase my question. How does one pivot a shape along a specific axis, where there is not a perpendicular surface to automatically define the working plane.
  11. something like this. I'm talking to a conservator about displaying a tipi. I'm doing it here by, as stated above, sighting down the seam then rotating along the screen plane. it would be easier if i could just snap along the edge and make that the rotation axis.
  12. I am trying to fold a flat shape. i figured the easiest way to do it would be to split the shape where i want to fold it and then rotate it along the axis. I've done it in the past by siting down the axis and then rotating arround the screen plane, but that isn't precise and rather tedious. is there a way to set the working plane perpendicular to an axis?
  13. I've Created a custom data Tag. It combines multiple fields into one text string separated by periods. This is the code I use. I created using the Define Tag Field Dialog box. #DB Markers#.#Type#->#DB Markers#.#Type#"."#DB Markers#.#Deck#"."#DB Markers#.#Wing#"."#DB Markers#.#Exhibit#"."#DB Markers#.#Element Number# Is there a way to do a similar thing in a Worksheet? The "Add Custom Field" dialog box doesn't seem to work the same way. I also tried pasting the text from the Data Tag into a custom field. That didn't work either. The photo below shows the Data tag at the bottom and the worksheet above. Ian
  14. hmm, I missed your post in my search. I didn't even know Vectorworks had Project files in 2017!
  15. This is a simple request. When I close a file when I haven't saved it, I get a prompt which lets me save it. When I close a working file, when I haven't Committed it, I get a prompt which tells me I haven't Committed it, but then doesn't give me an option to do so. I have to re-open it! I feel like it's saying "you idiot, I'm going to make you reopen your file until you learn." My Refrigerator does the same thing if I don't close it soon enough. 😉
  16. Any chance there Has been a resolution to this issue? This is with a swept rectangle with a pitch. Might it have something to do with the fact that one needs to include a 2d locus point to make a helical sweep? or the compound curve it creates. Update: if I do a positive pitch and then mirror it, it appears to work. 🤔
  17. yes, I've worked for a bunch of design firms in the Boston Area, AMAZE (just after Wetzel left), CCA, Main Street and a couple of other stops in between. I've started using the tagging and record tools fairly recently since most of my Vectorworks experience was on Fundamentals which is pretty limited as far as easily changing records.
  18. @Pat Stanford Thank you, those threads gave me a few clues as to how to pursue a solution. It sounds like marionette could help me? do you know of a good resourse I could use to learn? I think I've got a good handle on using records and worksheets to keep track of items. I was more looking for information on parametric objects so I could generate and scale them. For a few dark years I was in a Revit world. I was just starting to use Parametric objects when I switched firms and got back to VWorks. In General, VWorks is far better for what I have to do, but Revit's Parametric Object editor was nice. It seems that making a square panel which can be manipulated should be something pretty straightforward, but I haven't found a resource that I could learn how to create one. @JBenghiat I looked into Python a while back, I abandoned it because I just got too busy and It has been too long since I did any Coding (high school 35 years ago). Do you have any recommendations for places to learn Marionette? this old dog still has a bit of ability to learn. (hopefully) As far as the clicking and dragging, It isn't too important for the Graphic's creation, but it is important for resizing since many Graphic sizes are determined by the surrounding structure. a good Example is @Kennedyme's wall, the graphics all need to fit across the wall and between cases. If any of those dimensions change, being able to make a grid then clicking and dragging the graphic's edges to fit the grid is a huge advantage over having to do the math. also, I was thinking that using the plane of the Graphic Substrate to attach the graphic might be a good way to orient the graphic.
  19. Are you using spaces so that you can use the record? it isn't too difficult to make your oun record format with the fields you need and connect them to the Graphic in the drawing. Making the Graphic a symbol or a group will allow you to attach the record. If you have lots of standard Graphic types you might want to make a symbol for each type then they will all have the same dimensions, or you can just make them groups. In projects with lots of rectangular graphics I will make a symbol of a graphic rectangle with a record for the graphic attached to it. I make the Symbol convert to a group then I can scale it with the selection tool after placing it. The Graphic Number will be stored in the record attached to the object. You can then create a worksheet listing all of the records, or all of the Graphics in a section etc. The Dimensions can be read from the rectangle itself under "functions" when you're setting up the Worksheet. You can then tag the graphic in the Annotations of the Viewport. If you have Architect, you can change the information in the Worksheet in list form and it will update the record attached to the Graphic itself. I've found this a huge time saver. I can't belive how much time this would have saved over the years while I was using Fundamentals. You can use this same tequnique for Artifacts and Cases as well.
  20. As an Exhibit Designer, I have to draw a lot of rectangular Graphics and then keep track of them with Graphic numbers then coordinate with Graphic Designers who then might tweek the sizes slightly for any number of reasons. For years I've been drawing a square placing crossed lines on them to signify them as a graphic and then manually labeling them with a number, typing that number into a spreadsheet, and manually entering their dimensions. Over the years I have evolved so that I can attach a record to a 3D modeled graphic itself from which I can create a schedule this streamlines the process. What I would really like to do is to have a Parametric tool where I could click and drag a rectangle on a working plane and then enter the Graphic Number, the thickness, and if necessary, enter a new width and hight and have the symbol dimensions respond. I've tried doing this with a scaled symbol (making a 1x1 graphic then scaling it, but I really would like to be able to change the dims without manually entering it also I'v found relying on scaling symbols creates instabilities) Since it is such a simple shape, I would think that it would be straightforward enough. Any Ideas? I would also like to tag items which are embeded in Symbols. Looking at the forum, it appears that this isn't something that can be done. (FYI, you can do this in SketchUp) I have also been running into a problem that "height and width Appear to change depending on the view you are in when you recalculate the field. is there a way arround this? 21. A year later, This seems like a major flaw in the system, one that should be fixable in some way. Has there been any remedy to this issue?
  22. Thanks for your reply, I don't check these forums often either. (obviously)
  23. Did this ever get sorted out? My work around is to delete the crop box then the entire layer comes into view, you can then re draw it where you want.
  24. @Benson Shaw The Floors are actually just polygons drawn on the Layer Plane. My question is more about why the Viewport differs from the view I get when looking at the design layer when they are both open GL. This drawing started out life as a space planing diagram laid over a simple model. Extruding them makes the color visible, but they change because they are effected by the ambient light. @Kevin McAllister Thank you for your thoughts. I think it has to do with the way Open GL is effected when you try to use it in a Viewport.
