  1. Even better....what a great resource of textures, Jim. Thanks so much for pointing me in that direction.
  2. Thank you again, Jim. This is much more in keeping with what I had in mind. Still needs some work/tweaking but......on the right path now.
  3. Thanks, Jim..I'll check this out. Looks like the drawing file wasn't attached. Here it is...
  4. I was wondering if someone out there might be able to suggest to me how to create "irregular" surfaces to this table. Think reclaimed wood. Instead of a straight edge to a board, I'd like it to be slightly "wany", more natural/organic in appearance. Also, the surfaces should have more of a hand hewn/textured look to it. I believe the later is done by editing the bump of the texture in the resource browser, although not certain. I've tried creating the wany edge by using the freehand tool and then composing a rectangle. I probably could pull that off but it was quite difficult. I though there might be a quicker way, one I'm not aware of. Thanks in advance for any help on this...it's always appreciated.
  5. I'll check it out, Wes...thank you. I use Photoshop Elements, which seems to be ok but will be curious about Gimp..appreciate the info.
  6. All very helpful Alan and Steve. Steve the video is great, really clarifies the process for me. Thanks again for all the assistance here.
  7. This is the file I was using to create that texture....Does looking at this reveal anymore of the issue I'm having?
  8. Bummer..this seamless generator looked great BUT, Windows only...I'm a Mac guy forever.
  9. Thanks everyone.....all advice will be taken. I guess "seamless" is the key here. I'll post back with the end results. Thanks again.
  10. I often need to create my own Renderworks Textures based on veneers we will be using on a project. One issue I have often is pointed out in the attached image by the red arrows. I would prefer the grain lines to be continuous so there is no interruption of a butt joint periodically. I have adjusted the "Set by Image" area to no avail. Have also played with many of the settings in the Edit Texture box but, also to no avail. Can someone offer some advise on this? As always, beyond appreciative for this resource and ability to gain knowledge from others. Thanks so much.
  11. And there it is. I never realized that drop down menu was there, allowing separate editing of surfaces. So simple really. I haven't filleted the edge yet but your video certainly shows that process clearly as well. I'm repeating myself here but..thank you for all your help.
  12. Alan, thank you. The video is great. I don't have time now but will edit my drawing later in hopes I can do exactly what I need to, based on your tutorial.
  13. I've got the edges as I want them to appear now but I'm having difficulty controlling edges and surfaces as separate items. When I rotate to create the vertical grain in the edge, the surface becomes askew. If I ungroup the extrusion, the edge becomes like the original problem, fuzzy and lacking detail. Alan, you mentioned being able to control the 2 surfaces separately (edge and top surface). How exactly do you do that?? Almost there. Thanks all.....more then appreciate the help.
  14. B, would you have any sense of why the edge is appearing this way, rather then like the vertical grain at the base below? I moved forward with Modify/Convert to Group, then adjusted grain direction of each grouping. It seems the vertical edge grain lost it's definition. Wondering where I went wrong. Thanks.
  15. Turns out, Jim's advice of "Add Surface" worked better for me..a series of circles and arcs created this. I had to first compose the smaller arcs into solid triangle like forms, then add those to the circle areas. The one detail I wanted to do but had more difficulty with is that I wanted the top slab edges to have vertical grain, not horizontal. I used Map Type: Auto Align Plane because I wasn't able to achieve the vertical grain edge with the other settings. Can someone suggest how I can make the edge grain vertical without shifting the grain direction on the tops? Thanks Forum..always appreciated.
  16. Alan, thanks. Polyline tool in "Point on arc" mode seems to be the way for me to go. I can first draw out what I want accurately in plan, then trace over that with this tool in that mode.....relatively simple so again, thank you for the help...appreciate it.
  17. I've been asked to do an interpretation of this table and am struggling creating a 3D model to present. I've been setting up in 2D and placing intersecting circles and arcs to create the overall plan view but, when I try and compose the group for extruding, it doesn't work. As if this trimming technique is not the correct way to move forward on this. I hope I explained that well enough. I'd be more then interested to hear and see how others, with better skills, would go about creating these curved edge extrusions. Something tells me it's a pretty simple task but...........help?
  18. For what it's worth....I too use dual monitors but always place palletes and tools on the right monitor and drawings on the left monitor. I like the clutter free approach to my left side drawing monitor, although I do place the attributes pallete on the left for quick access. I find the cursor movement back and forth to be a non issue. I can do this quickly and accurately. I have wondered what it would be like with just the 27" iMac to work on. I have an older 24"iMac for drawings plus a smaller Cinema Display for tools and palletes. I checked out the 27" 5K Retina display recently. Wow...that is one gorgeous display. One day.
  19. Late to reply...sorry. I don't use the Logitech driver. Steermouse does everything I need and then some. The MX feels great in hand, at least to me...plus I really like the wheel action in free mode, as well as all the button options. As Jim said, a mouse is such a personal thing..I think it just takes exploring options and trying different ones out at whatever retailer is available. I did also try the Evoluent Vertical Mouse last year. I just wasn't able to adapt to that form although, have to admit, the hand position is quite intriguing. Good luck.
  20. This combination works very well for me. Logitech Wireless Performance Mouse MX SteerMouse CursorSense
  21. Same as Bruce on this one. If I happen to have moved the file into another folder, it will give that same message. "Save As" always works because it's not looking for previously saved file.
  22. Just a followup. I ended up grabbing an HP Jetdirect Ethernet card...never realized I had that option on this plotter (empty slot for it). Initially these cards were around $400, but now you can grab them for $20.00 +/-. Installed it, ran an Ethernet cable to the computer and voila. No clue why the usb port/connection wasn't recognizing the plotter but.....all good now.
