  1. In, VW18 it seems that new database rows that are created use the default Auto Fit Row Height option, even if the database header & all fo the other database rows are set to use Set Row Height. In the attached worksheet, I have set all of the existing rows to use a row height of 20, including the database header row. If you copy one of the lines and recalculate the worksheet, the new line will appear int he database (row 5.4) using the default 15 point row height. Am I missing a setting somewhere, or has anyone found a way around this. It's going to really suck if I have to resize new rows every time I recalculate my worksheets. Database Row Heights.vwx
  2. I am trying to create a worksheet that sums the total length of lines in certain classes. Ideally, I would like to do this via a database instead of using spreadsheet mode and a formula. In the attached worksheet I have set up 3 classes with 3 lines each. I have built databases for each class. I want to summarize the data so that instead of showing each of the 3 lines and their lengths as separate rows, the contents of the database is summarized as a single row (IE row 5.1 would display "Class A" in column A & "30" in column B. If I try to summarize Column A using the Summarize Items function it summarizes the 3 rows down to a single row which displays "Class A" in column A but only displays "---" in column B. No other combination of the Summarize Items & Sum functions seems to get me what I want. Am I stuck using formulas or is there a way around this that would allow me to use a database. 3. My set size dialogue box reports 3276.7 once you surpass the limit. In order to figure out what size the text is, I basically just have to guess & check until I get it right - lucky I almost always work in increments of 100! It wouldn't really be an issue for me if the dialogue box reported the correct text size, just a minor inconvenience, but the total lack of info is problematic.
  4. It seems that Vectorworks is unable to display the size of text that is about 3276.7 point font. For example, if I have a text block that sized at 2000 point, the field in the OIP reads as 2000. However, if I increase that same text block to 5000 point, the OIP now reads 3276.7. Does anyone else have this issue or can they reproduce it, or is this a system issue on my end? I am running VW17, SP 4 on a Windows 10 Pro machine. Thanks!
  5. Called VW support... somehow the entire pallet was removed from the workspace - not really sure how I managed that one! Had to go into the workspace editor and add the entire pallet menu back into the workspace.
  6. I have a custom workspace that I have been using ever since I upgraded to VW17 10 months ago. Today I managed to close the OIP & now it no longer appears to be an option under the palletes menu (see screenshot). If I switch to a different workspace, such as the default Spotlight workspace, the OIP once again becomes an option for me to turn on. Any thoughts on how to get it back?
  7. VW2017, latest service pack. That would make sense because I am quite sure that I didn't have this issue before!
  8. I have a bunch of rectangles in a document that are all rotated at different angles. I have a worksheet that is databasing all those rectangles and returning their length, width, and area. However, the length and width being returned are not their "true" length & width (ie their dimensions when not rotated at all), but rather what appear to be dimensions giving length and width when rotated (a 7'x15' rectangle is returning as 6'-6 3/16 x 19'-9 11/16"). If I orient my view so what some rectangles are rotated zero degrees those rectangles will return a "true" number. Is there a way to force my worksheet to look at the rectangle in its zero degrees orientation regardless of how my view is currently rotated?
  9. Alright, most of that makes sense! Thanks for uploading. My ultimate goal would be to incorporate this all into a symbol which contains record info which is all reporting back to a worksheet. I am uploading a symbol, the idea would be to apply the justification marionette to the text contained within this symbol while still maintaining that record link so it still reports back to the worksheet. Is that possible? Thanks! Marionette Text Test.vwx
  10. Option 3 sounds like what I had in mind! Do you have any recommendations on tutorials for Marionette? I've watched the Marionette Mondays webinar already!
  11. Before I really dig into and learn how to use marionette I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if what I want to do is feasible? I'm guessing no based on the nature of symbols, but worth a shot. Im looking to customize certain properties of a symbol. For example, it would be great if I could change the horizontal alignment of text within a symbol (some instances of a symbol with text justified left, other instances of the same symbol with text justified right). Otherwise I have to have 2 symbols to accomplish what seems like a simple function. Thanks, Simon
  12. Got in touch with VW support. They have confirmed this is a new bug and have added it to the list of fixes hopfully in the next service pack!
  13. Is there a way to edit the graphic attributes of a class across multiple viewports simultaneously. In the viewports tab of the nav pallet, I can select multiple viewports, click the classes button in the OIP, and then turn classes on and off the same way as if I were editing a single viewport. But when I try to apply the same method to changing graphic attributes (overriding the class pen color for example), the edit button is grayed out. Is it just not possible to edit these attributes, except 1 viewport at a time?
  14. Seems that in VW17, if you mirror a callout while in a rotated top/plan view, the mirror changes shape and position. In VW16, when I mirrored a callout in rotated top/plan the mirror would nehave exactly as if I had mirrored it in top/plan - that is to say, it would be oriented 90 degrees (or whatever angled I had mirrored it to) to the original. The only workaround I found so far is to change to top/plan and then mirror the callout. This results in a callout that is rotated incorrectly, but is at least the same shape. From there you just have to rotated it back to match the original. I did a quick search and didn't come up with any posts about this already, but im surprised nobody has flagged this one yet. I have been able to replicate the bug in new files and on multiple PC and Mac machines.
  15. Also, this issue has appeared since upgrading from VW16 to VW17. I did not experience any issues previously.
  16. Whenever I make changes to the text of a callout VW crashes on me... the kicker is that it only happens with callouts that are oriented between 270 degrees and 0 degrees and only when there is more than 1 line of text. I have no problem creating new callouts, or editing callouts with a single line of text. Im interested to see if anyone has encountered this issue, or if anyone can reproduce it!
  17. I knew it would be incredibly simple! Thanks!
  18. Is there a way to keep VW17 from automatically inserting a drawing label every time I create a new view port? I never use them, and Im getting tired of constantly deleting them.
  19. Got in touch with VW support. Posting the fix below in case anyone else runs into this issue. Note that some of this is specifically tailored to a Windows machine booting Windows 10. This may be a permission issue with changing the settings on the plug-ins. If you open a file explorer window, navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Vectorworks 2017\Plug-Ins Right click on the Plug-Ins folder and choose Properties. Go to the Security Tab, highlight “Users” in the top half and click Edit. Highlight “Users” again in the top half and check the option for “Full Control” in the bottom half. Click OK out of the dialogs and restart Vectorworks.
  20. I have tried on several occasions to edit defaults on several plugins but once I exit the plugin manager, they seem to revert back to the original defaults. Example: I change the chord profile on straight truss from square to round. When I insert a straight truss, the chord profile is square. When I reopen the plugin manager, the default has reverted back to square. In order to do this I open the plugin manager, select straight truss, click customize, select chord profile, click edit, change the default value to round, click ok, click ok again, then click close. Has anyone experienced this issue, or is there something im doing wrong in this process?
  21. Test file attached. Drape should appear purple as assigned by the class (ex. top drape run). The bottom 2 were created int he exact same manor as the top one but at different lengths. Drape Test.vwx Drape Test v2015.vwx
  22. Occasionally after inserting a pipe & drape run using the soft goods tool, the actual drape line (but not the base plates) turns red. Its not a class issue as everything checks out on that end. I have had similar issues with the truss tool and odd lengths, but there is a checkbox at the bottom of the OIP called "highlight" that when unchecked returns the truss to its class assigned color. I am assuming that my P&D issuer may be similar but don't see any options in the OIP to fix it. Has anyone found a way to fix this?
  23. Got in touch with VW tech support. They were able to get it working by unmerging the cells in the top row... no idea why this worked, but it did!
  24. All of the other rows in this particular worksheet work fine, but I had the same thing happen to me in a different worksheet from the same file. And no, this worksheet, and the entire file for that matter, was generated in 2016. Probably in different service packs, but all in 16
