  1. That's a general problem with VW. Workflows could be much quicker if all tools and menue items together with their respective options could be activatetd via shortcode. Vectorworks has great options for adapting workspaces, but several tools and menue options are simply missing there, it looks like programming the workspace adaption possibilities has stopped at a point where things got too complicated.
  2. If you simply drag and drop the truss symbol from the resource manager ( not double click ) to a file, you will get the truss symbol. Or you can ungroup the truss object and you will get the symbol plus the insertion objects. Just out of curiousity: Why do you want to do this ?
  3. - there is a symbol in a drawing called "symbol_abc". - This symbol has a record attached called "Recordformat123". This has a "Field_A" value "5555". - there is a revised version of this symbol with revised geometry somewhere in my library. - this symbol is also called "symbol_abc" - it has a record attached also called "Recordformat123", but this has a "Field_A" value "8844". Now I'm replacing (via the replace button) "symbol_abc" in my drawing with the "symbol-abc" in my library. I am expexting symbol AND Record value to be replaced, but the geometry is replaced while the record is kept. I'm getting the revised new geometry with old "Field_A" value "5555". ok,- that could be a rule,- BUT: Now I'm replacing "symbol_abc" with "some_symbol_with_other_name" first. Then I replace "some_symbol_with_other_name" with the revised version "symbol_abc" from my library. Result: The revised "symbol_abc" replaces geometry AND Record value, so I got what I originally wanted: New geometry and new "Field_A" value "8844". It seems that the replacement button works different, dependig on the symbol name being identical or not. Bug or feature ? Or maybe someone here can explain me the logic behind this ? (tested with VW2021,- not tested with VW2022)
  4. There is a symbol in Vectorworks Libraries\Objets - Ent Stage\Cable Protectors which looks very similar to ADA cable ramps. Should be easy to give that the desired shape.
  5. I feel I am stumbling over this about 100 times a day. Here are my thoughts: I fear this is the only way,- if you have 100 symbols with 100 individual default values, you need to handle each one individally. Yes, I am stuck here too, this seems to be the only way to group symbols and change defaults for the groups. Could be better manageable... No. In Worksheets you can only change the drawn instances, but not the default values of the symbols. If I understand the data manager right, you can create sets of predefined attachments. So this could be a solution: Instead of creating default values for each symbol you create an attachment list in your template file that automatically attaches the desired values as soon as the symbol is imported. I haven't tested this workflow, I think in the end it is the same amount of work like the individual attachments to the symbols in a symbol library. Finally, ODBC could be a solution. But I haven't been successful in getting this running for years. Maybe someone here has got it running and can report how it works ?
  6. @setdesigner Here it is. Have fun ! ๐Ÿ˜€ Layher_Comfort.vwx
  7. @Jesse Cogswell awsome ! Thank you ! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. Hi markdd, uups, one of the "hidden treasures"? Never realized that before. But you are right, not realy useful in this contex. Yes, but that's the workflow I wanted to avoid/shorten. I thougt that there must be a simplier way... ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yes, I too think that something was there some time ago. A hint in the OIP seems to be only logical. Just found that in the custom selection criteria is a "modification state", but it's grayed out, don't know if that idea leads to something.
  9. I have selected a bunch of symbols. I need to know which ones of these are flipped. Anyone knows a workflow how to identify them ? What's more, is there way to identify the axis a symbol was flipped ?
  10. yes, precisely, same here. It does not make any sense at all to create 20 or more viewports with data-vis-labels, only to go them through one by one, open them , delete the label, close, open next one, delete label, proceed ....
  11. is it correct that the automatc creation of data visualisation legeds in viewport annotations can not be switched off/avoided ?
  12. hi @ MultipleWays, YES, YES, YES, YES !!!! See my thread here, started on may 2021. Move by points became worse with VW2021, then as you mentioned, absolutely inoperable in VW2022, then slighly better than in VW2021 with VW2022 SP2 (Build 622317). It never returned to be the handy tool as it was before the tool preview was introduced. For my part I coud live very well with skipping the preview at all and having the nice move by points tool back.
  13. I think the slowliness of the resource browser, especially when replacing symbols, was first mentioned here . That is 4 years ago .... *sigh* Using the resource browser for 4 years, 50 times a day with a delay of 5 seconds that makes 100 hours of wasted lifetime. Who is going to pay the bill for that ? ๐Ÿ˜•
  14. Why on earth can I export selected rows, but not selected columns ? It forces me to always to create two worksheets, one for exporting specific columns only, and one for editing my data. ๐Ÿ™„
  15. Ahhh Great! ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm still working on VW21 here, haven't checked this in VW22.
  16. maybe its a simple trick, but cant find it: Lets say 15 objects selected. Each one has to be rotated by the Rotate Left command. Any idea how to do this in one click instead of doing 15 clicks and 15 rotate commands ? Could make a (marionette-) script for this, but I wonder if this can be done with the native tools.
  17. Ok, so we all make a demonstration march to Lรถrrach ? ๐Ÿ˜† German support told me, serial numbers for VW2022 with dongle can't be generated at all ? So this is wrong ?
  18. That's really good news ! I'm always happy to hear that a few of the problems I experience are not located between my keyboard and my office chair. ๐Ÿ˜
  19. Hi zoomer, I'm using this one: https://dict.leo.org/englisch-deutsch/ estabished in 1995, it is one of the oldest free dictionaries in the web. (Even older than wikipedia). Its a bit oldschool, but much more precise than Apple or Google. I think the "panel problem" is a very good example for using screen plane: First, I always end up in creating three types of panel-symbols: - "untouched" panels as they come from the manufacturer - panels with vertical and/or horizontal cuts only - special panels with cutouts and/or non perpendicular cuts. (In the end you will always need a drawing for these ones, so creating them as symbol from the beginning will help with the detail drawings later on in the project) So when it comes to distribute those panels on a facade I'm mostly using the duplicate array tool for that. (I'm not an architect, so I'm not using the wall tool at all) but I suppose this will work properly both in VW21 and VW22. And it works in both in screen or layer plane mode. Inserting a special panel at a certain point of the facade mostly can not be done via inserting symbol, since the insert point of the symbol mostly will not fit to the reference point on the facade. But if the symbols all have the same thickness (which mostly is the case with facade panels), you can simply duplicate one panel that was already placed correctly and replace it with the panel symbol you need. The new panel then is already correctly oriented in depth. Assuming the model is oriented in x- and y-axis, all you have to do now is switch to front-, back-, right- or left- view in screen plane and move the panel to the desired position, without caring if you picked the panel on the top side or backsice, and on which plane the insetion point is. If you do that in layer plane you may accidently snap to a point underneath or above the desired position, or connect the the top side of the panel to the backside of an existing panel. So this was my original question in this thread, I know there are some some workarounds to do all this in layer plane, but they all seem to take longer than the method described above. Any thoughts ?
  20. Yes, right, custom selection is more simple to use than select similar, especially if you don't know at least one object that already matches the criteria.
  21. I think this has not changed in VW 22: you can still use the select similar tool with "Plane" as Select Similar Preferance Setting to select all objets with the same (screen-)plane .
  22. Maybe I'm wrong, but this does not work if the extrude profile is a circle. In that case you can only snap to the profiles (circles) at the end of the extrude.
  23. Yes you are right, my workaround is to edit the extrude along path, copy the path, exit the extrude and insert the path at the right position. If the path is a nurbs curve you can set perpendicular working planes anywhwere along the path. Placing the profile on this working plane allows you to get the outer boundery of the extrude along path at this point and you can snap to it. hth
  24. So screen plan has become legacy now. I think it's good to have this simplyfied. But for example, when in front view, what is the simpliest way to move parts of a 3D drawing parallel to the screen without accidently snapping to points that are somewhere perpendicular to the screen ? Up to now, I haven't found a workflow that is quicker than simply moving in screen plane ....
  25. that's a wide field..... ๐Ÿ˜€ indeed the whole record attachment is not really straight forward. Im struggeling with this a lot, here are my experiences: No, not really, and yes you have to: If you have already valuables in the field you simply click on the record name, not on the check-tick. The "edit values box the gets activated and you can edit single values without touching other values. If you uncheck by clicking the check-tick and re-attach the record all field values are lost. If you want to change values for instances of a symbol that are already in the drawing, you cant do this here,- in this case a worksheet is your friend. If you are familiar with the data manager you can define default values for record fields that will be attached automatically when the symbol is inserted.
