  1. When resizing a rectangle or a bitmap using the OIP dimensions for width or height, there should be an option to constrain or lock the aspect ratio so the object can be resized without distortion. This would be very helpful with bitmap images or PDFs.
  2. +1! Why isn't this a part of the American version? I was looking to build a marionette script that does much of what this does, but probably not nearly as well.
  3. One nice feature would be to have the option to check a box to "Hide All Database Headers" upon the export of a sheet layer. I know there are scripts to hide all the database headers, but it would be nice to incorporate this functionality into the export process to ensure that no headers end up visible in exports.
  4. If you create a symbol using floors as a basic planar hybrid object, beware. They will not export to a DWG without exploding them. Please FIX this ASAP!!!!

  6. We are really having problems with the IMAGE function in worksheets and its ability to return accurate representations of the plant symbols. The function rasterizes the symbol, often pixelating it so much that it isn't recognizable for reference purposes. Isn't that the whole point. We need an entirely reworked IMAGE function engine or another way of linking symbols to database headers and rows. Something that is way more accurate, but still allows for the RECALCULATE function to pick up any changes. Soon...?
  7. I hope that there is a fix for this coming soon. The IMAGE function is almost worthless for planting symbols. You can't tell one from the other...frustrating!
  8. A big +1! Integrating rebar into slabs, hardscapes, walls, etc. would be a huge benefit!
  9. Or...novel concept...hire a landscape architect that uses Vectorworks! :-)
  10. It would second the request to be able to query the class/layer description information into a worksheet.
  11. Yeah, whenever we make changes, it is a constant struggle to get back to the correct visibilities because someone isn't up to date on the changes. This is huge in an office workgroup setting for consistency.
  12. We use viewport references frequently to build different files without worrying about conflicting live linework. One of the most frustrating parts of this process is when you create or edit a class or layer in the mother file. When doing this, the visibility in the referenced viewport is automatically set to OFF/INVISIBLE. This is a default that I wish were the other way. It would be much easier to turn off visibilities of things that are undesirable, rather than remembering to turn on visibilities for all of the changes/updates.
  13. ++++1. This would correspond with the ability to "stop" a database header somewhere across a row, allowing one to either enter a new database header or enter spreadsheet values that don't necessarily correspond to the original database header.
  14. I just noticed the other day, when trying to export my linework to AutoCAD for coordination, that a 2D/3D symbol that contains floors does not export. This should be coupled with a request that the .dwg export get much better. Unfortunately we still have to use .dwg files as our main coordination effort when working with other teams. The export process if often a trial and error test to make sure everything appears and acts as cleanly as possible in AutoCAD as possible. This takes a great deal of time. One of the largest problems we face are the redundant lines created by Vectorworks drafting methodologies. Drafting shapes instead of bounding lines often creates several overlapping lines that become a real issue for anyone attempting to edit or utilize the linework in AutoCAD or other programs. Finding a way to minimize these redundancies as part of a .dwg export would be very helpful.
  15. This happens in the resource browser too, very annoying.
  16. It would be nice if changes in view were excluded from your undo history. We often change views several times to look at a particular drafted element, so when we need to change it or undo it, we might have performed more commands than the undo history allows. There already is an undo view command, so why include views as a part of regular undo history?
  17. +++1! I completely agree. The ability to use the texture bed mode, but still be able to provide a thickness, and even a more complex profile (similar to walls) to a hardscape would help modelling speed and visualization. The best example for us is something like paths with curbing. If the path undulates and has a raised curb, there isn't a great way to show this using the hardscape tool.
  18. +++++1. I have requested this before. I hope to see it soon! https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=43935&Number=220499#Post220499
  19. Can you explain how the spreadsheet formula you suggest using (=RUNSCRIPT(120, 'SumFieldByCriteria.txt', 'Space', 'Gross Area', '(((L=''1-Floor'')& (R IN [''Space''])))') would differ in result from =AREA((L="1-Floor") & (R IN ["Space"])) ?? Also, wouldn't you have to manually enter the area into the record field 'Gross Area' for each object desired?
  20. Thanks Pat, I'm a little confused by this but I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure if this solves the dilemma we encounter though. Wouldn't the queried numeric fields of objects with the targeted record have to be manually updated to show the correct unit quantity (i.e. area, perimeter, length, volume, count, etc.)? Also, if you were to put this into a summarized database header wouldn't all of the values for that column show the same unit (i.e. Area)? What I am ultimately looking for is a way to query all of the objects with a record, lets call it 'Material Take-off' where L='Hardscape'. Then, since we are very careful with our classes, the database would be summarized by class (=C) and sorted by the field (='Material Take-off'.'Item No.'). Another column would provide the data entered in the class (='Material Take-off'.'Unit'), resulting in values that would include: SF, LF, EA, CF, etc. Then in a column intended for quantity, ideally I could enter a function that would result in the correct unit quantity queried by a record field (='Material Take-off'.'Quantity'); which would have to be a field tailored to automatically fill with the correct unit quantity for each object to which it is assigned. This is currently possible by writing separate formulas in individual worksheet cells that query different function (i.e. =Area(), =Count(), =PERIM(), etc.) This however is a lot of work to maintain and not intuitive if changes are made. We would love to have this ability in a database function instead.
  21. The current options for record fields are integer, boolean, text, and number. I have longed for a record field option that acts like a database header FUNCTION. For example, in a custom record format, you could add a record field, and its type would be FUNCTION. Then, once an object is assigned the custom record field, you could select from a list or type the same functions used in worksheets (COUNT, AREA, PERIMETER, LENGTH, X-VALUE, etc.). The value would then update as objects resize or move. The real power of this lies in worksheets where you could query the FUNCTION field of a the custom record format and return the value. For cost/quantity estimating, units often differ. We will have SQUARE FOOT (AREA) units right next to LINEAR FOOT (PERIMETER) units and there is currently no way of accomplishing this without separating the unit types into two different database headers in a worksheet.
  22. I would also love to hear an explanation of this topic. I often do the trial and error thing because I don't really know what I am looking to accomplish or what differing parameters will do to the polyline.
  23. For some reason, and I don't know why, the select similar tool does not allow a user to select plants of a similar species. The only 'Select Similar Preference' that I could imagine to have this capability would be the 'Symbol Name' preference; yet, when using that preference in attempt to select all of a certain species of plant (different plug-in object symbol), you receive the message "The selected activation options can't be used for this object. Please click on an object which has all the selected"
  24. When using the plant tool to place multiple plants in a grouping, either random or organized by spacing, it would be really nice to see the resulting number of plants in the plant grouping in the object information palette. We often resort to "Change Plant Grouping" to essentially explode the grouping, note the quantity within, and then undo. I realize that you can do this through the use of tags, but we don't often use tags. Instead I could envision it being represented somewhere in the object information palette.
  25. Another idea for implementation of a new "IMAGE" function could be a function that establishes a lock point or loci in the associated cell of the worksheet. Once the worksheet is placed, you could then use this lock point or loci to manually place a shape/symbol. If the order of the worksheet then changes, so would the lock point/loci, and the shape/symbol would follow.
