@peter
what mac os is on your macpro?
rob
The MacPro runs on 10.7. Mountain Lion doesn't run anymore on this "old" machine ;-)
PS. I only run Parallels on my iMac here. The MacPro can run Bootcamp quite fine though.
-
I have a MacPro from 2006. This machine still runs VW2013 and with nice speeds. Try that on a PC from 2006? :-)
I too use Parallels from time to time, works great, you can even play some nice games this way ;-). Or run Revitviewer....

Sorry Christiaan, I'm not experiencing this problem. I tried with new project made in VW2013 and an old one from VW2012 (both fairly large "BIM" models).
We both have a similar machine setup. Are there plugins that maybe give problems?
Good luck!

But still it's too bad you can't have vectorized shadows. If you export this as a pdf, you get a big file as there's a vector part (the lines, etc.) and a bitmap part (for shadows)... The same goes for elevations..
-
My wishes for VW14 are:
- roofcomponents,
- interactive sections and elevations,
- more intelligent materials (like the ones in ArchiCAD 17 for example),
- elevations with 3d hatches and shadow (no need to render either OpenGL or render works),
- being able to have a window span 2 or more stories,
- a curtainwall tool!
I'm hoping NNA will have something great in store for VW14. We're already looking for other programs at the moment ie. ArchiCAD. And will probably change a couple of licenses if there aren't enough changes...

To bad you can't specify exactly at what resolution the movie is made. Or am I missing something?
-
Ah, no I don't think so... Sorry I thought you were referring to 3d. Hmm, well OK VW beats ArchiCAD there :-)
-
I'm an architect/designer/artist more than a draftsman so I need the versatility that Vectorworks provides in the form of superior presentation methods...
I'd trade artistic sketch mode for better drawing coordination any day.
Then I strongly recommend you to change to ArchiCAD/Revit....or at least complement your office with one of these.
I'd prefer a package that can do both
Archicad also has a sketch render look! ;-)

That is already the case in AC, although the new version (v17) goes way further than this.

ArchiCAD 17 will be available on june 1st I think. I'm using v.16 at the moment for my BIM models. VW is getting behind fast. Even the simplest building elements walls and roofs for example haven't been developed enough the past years (especially roofs!!!!). No complex wallprofiles like AC, no intelligent building materials, etc. I must admit that the 2d tools are better in VW, but we're heading towards a 3d world! AC 17 looks very promising so I will definitely check the trial once available. I sure hope VW2014 will be a huge improvement, or else we will probably switch here at the office...

So this is not a very ontopic topic, but I tried mailing Nemetschek to no avail. Maybe someone here knows the answer. I tried to unsubscribe from the VW mailinglist using the instructions that come with all the mails. Unfortunately I still get mails from them. I also can't log in through the website to unsubscribe. A mail to the support team still isn't answered. I hope I can get some help through the forum then....
Thanks in advance!

Walltops will always be cut horizontally from the inside of the wall to the outside of the wall, so a sloped top (from inside of a wall to the outside of the wall) is not possible... That's why there's jagged corners... I haven't got a solution for that, I'm sorry (or buy ArchiCAD or Revit..)
-
Did you mirror, rotate or flipped the stair? I know this gives problems with ifc export. Same goes for mirrored symbols. (At least in VW 2012)...
-
@Dieter, I know that this is possible in ArchiCAD. Revit I'm not sure.
-
Have you tried ArchiCAD? I'm using it for a couple of weeks now and find it more intelligent than VW. VW on the other hand is much easier with 2d and quick sketches. Probably doable in ArchiCAD as well, but I'm just starting after using VW for the last 12 years.
-
Yep same here in VW2012... Unfortunately a section viewport isn't interactive so we can't change things directly in the viewport... Or use vector hatches...
-
Use a slab for the top of the wall.

Hi Vincent,
In the Vectorworks library (application folder) there's folder called plugins-Common-Data-Doorpreferences.xml. You can open this and there's a line called hingepref (at the bottom) Here you can set a us (0) or non-US (1) standard. You type this number between so that it reads 1. Restart VW and it should work. I spend an afternoon trying to figure out where to change this. Ofcourse not in the OIP or dialog.......

In the movie clip it says that the images shown by Arroway are not rendered with Renderworks.

I have the same experience here in the Netherlands where lots of contractors choose Revit and almost demand that you use it as well. And since there is no way to have a solid import/export method between VW and Revit yet, we sometimes hire drawingfirms that draw our VW buildings in Revit....
-
Export as .stl and let it print in 3d!
-
Bummer...

Since we don't have VW2013, I can't test this. Is it possible to create a space object that follows a roof? The tools can only, as far as i know, create blocks, say straight extrudes. This way I can't get a correct volume or get an area at 1m above floorlevel for instance. Solid operations don't work. Converting a 3d object to space doesn't work, Follow Wall Height doesn't work? With all these great Organic Buildings being built today, shouldn't the spacetool be more flexible?
-
We also had problems exporting to Revit. The main problem we had was that Revit didn't create holes in the walls for the windows and doors. Also the windows and doors were drawn on a higher location. Since a contractor here really wanted us to deliver either Revit or compatible files, we had a separate office draw our 3d building again in Revit (we won't buy Revit!! :-) ). I hope these problems can be solved in the short run either by Nemetschek or Autodesk... But I can try dumbing down the file for a test, although this would not be the correct way (and it will take time to give every ifc object a new ifcformat.

There's also a slope tool, or something similar (in dutch it's called hellend vlak).
Maybe you can use that? I must admit it's a big miss indeed...
