  1. Hear hear - I'm not currently working on anything that needs this, but watching the conversation with interest for future ref, thanks all for sharing your experiences and learnings!
  2. Thanks, now I know they work in Windows I'll have a better look!
  3. Thanks for the link to Vectorbits, sounds potentially useful - I'm finding it hard to understand from the website though, are all their plugins only for Mac users, or do they work on Windows?
  4. I don't know if it applies to landscape areas, but when using 3D polys, setting their class to Site-DTM-Modifier (I think, it's one of the auto classes and something like this, you need to get it exactly right to work so check!) makes them act as site modifiers, I believe it works for other things too?
  5. Thanks for the hint about legacy features, I did find a setting that has allowed me to uncheck 'unified views off', which has helped.
  6. I'm having a similar issue, trying to look at a very simple 3D perspective view, but it will only show me one layer at a time.
  7. Coincident duplicates purge is not working properly. I have a layer where there are clear duplicates, everything about them is the same (directly on top of one another, same type of object, class, layer, colour, line width, etc) yet they are not coming up when I run purge. Posted on general forum and someone else confirmed they have the same issue. I'm using the latest build of Vwx 2022.
  8. Thanks - glad it's not something I'm doing wrong - annoying though! I agree, recent, I'm sure it used to work just fine. I'll file it as a bug...
  9. Coincident duplicates purge is not working properly for me... I have a layer where there are clear duplicates, everything about them appears to be the same (directly on top of one another, same type of object, class, layer, colour, line width, etc) yet they are not coming up when I run purge, any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, or is it a bug?
  10. I'm getting the same thing, but it won't even open at all, following that error message I get 'Could not find the factory default preferences in Vectorworks Preferences .xml. Please reinstall Vectorworks.' and a crash! We have service select, so I've asked them about it, I'll report back if I find anything out...
  11. FYI, I've just had another play, removing the item that was a viewport cropping a larger image. Hardly reduced the file size, and the same thing continues to happen whereby the first time I export it, it came out at 2.3Mb, then a second export, changing nothing, came out at 10.9Mb!
  12. Thanks Frank - you have understood the request, but the issue really comes when dealing with raster, rather than vector data. I see that layer/object order can be made to work when dealing with vectors (although I still think there are occasions where you want things in a different order for some reason, and 'multiply' could be helpful - e.g. trees in plan, would be nice to choose the exact colour of tree canopy without having to fade it to see through, but the trees want to appear to be 'above' the ground level detail). The big problem comes where one wishes to highlight something e.g. an area of a map, where the mapping exists as an image file and not vector. We can't place the block colour behind, because the image file mapping would obscure it, but by using opacity it is difficult to achieve an effect where the colour is not washed-out, without obscuring the image to a certain extent. For examples of the type of effect we would want to achieve see case studies at https://www.2bconsultancy.co.uk/gis.htm and https://www.2bconsultancy.co.uk/ztv.htm
  13. Thanks - interesting, yes that is the case! Service select are onto it now, wonder if they will find this is the problem, I'll mention it to them.
  14. I'm sure this must be a bug, and seems the same whether i use 'publish' or 'export'. I noticed the PDF was coming out rather big, have been playing with settings trying to get the output to a sensible size. Managed to get a particular output to 2.35Mb, tried to recreate it using screenshot of settings used, came out at 11Mb again. Happens consistently that if I close and re-open the file, and publish using the settings, it comes out 2.35Mb, but if I then try to publish the same sheet again, changing nothing, it comes out 11Mb.
  15. I would like to be able to show a normal fill colour as 'see through', but not opaque. i.e. I don't want the colour to be faded, as happens with editing opacity, or the lines behind to appear duller. I would like black lines behind the colour to show through as black, and the overlay colour to appear exactly the colour I choose. In other software this is called 'Multiply'... I have posted this on an old thread, but don't think the vwx can do what I would like, so posting here as well.
  16. I realise this is an old thread (I'm in vwx 2021), but feels the most related thing I've come across to the effect I'm trying to create. I would like a fill colour to be 'see through', but not opaque. Is there a way to do this in vwx? i.e. I don't want the colour to be faded, as happens with editing opacity, or the lines behind to appear duller. I would like black lines behind the colour to show through as black, and the overlay colour to appear exactly the colour I choose. In other software this is called 'Multiply'...
  17. This is very interesting - definitely seems a useful way of doing things in terms of producing detail sections. Does it produce correct results for producing a plan view showing levels, because the invisible class isn't picked up by the stake object, or is that too much to hope for?!
  18. I'm looking for photo realistic trees in plan view (to make into transparent PNG or PSD); I guess this is where I'd find them, but as others are experiencing, the link appears broken... is there an alternative? Or does anyone have recommendations for where to find 'great free imagery online' please? @Dave Donley @bgoff @Nico_be
  19. 1. Data tags will be useful but not perhaps for the graphics of the objects themselves? I'd use the magic wand tool to select them all quickly (edit the parameters to whatever is common - e.g. they are all plant objects, or on the same class, or something), then you should be able to force them all to behave in the same way e.g. by using a cross or having shadows etc. by editing those settings whilst they are all selected. Sometimes I've found you need to 'refresh' by selecting something you don't want for them all, and then change to the thing you do want - i.e. if you want them all to use a cross, you might choose a 'spot' tick in the first instance to reset, and then change to a 'cross', which then takes effect properly on them all. 2. Not my area of expertise but this sounds like you might be able to make use of 'symbols' as a workaround. 3. Maybe using groups would help here? You can manually measure using the tape measure tool.
  20. That is what I would assume you need to do as well - another request for the software development team please, it would be much more useful to be able to use the same symbol and assign it a variable size! Doesn't make sense to duplicate the same species as multiple symbols, increased risk of error, forgetting to edit both if you want to change something else about the species in another field.
  21. @Wes Gardner Thanks - it's hypothetical at present, we tend to be working with an architect who would design a building, and we're working around it. I suspect not bothering with stories is the answer! I asked because I know my colleague was having trouble the other day with a sloping site where she couldn't get the trees to sit nicely on top of the sloping 'terrain' (which actually was just drawn as a 3D poly I think rather than a terrain model - still, should be able to get one 3D 'thing' to snap to another, surely?) Can stories be set to a slope, theoretically?
  22. We haven't experimented with stories yet, but just wondering whether the community has any thoughts on whether they would be useful for a sloping landscape site (as most are!) or whether to steer clear unless you're working on a building with flat planes (which we're generally not, we are landscape architects and it's usually not as simple as flat terraces!)
