  1. Crap now I am going to go rotate one of these just for kicks....
  2. Pat, Got it all to work as you said. Single Record for each Sheet Size. Different Graphic for each Sheet Size, but all using data from a single record (source) per sheet. Set up a different Style per sheet size. 11x17, Arch C, Arch D. But they all are referencing the same data record. Worked easy. Go figure! Lol, thank you. Andy. Eye Dropper Tool does work if you copy and paste 2 title block borders onto the sheet. The old one containing the sheet data and the new one (this time constructed properly, but with no sheet data because different attached record format) but I used the eye dropper to transfer the old sheet's record format data. It worked fine except for the Project Title, for some reason. But thats an easy fix because the Project Title Data is a single entry and it then applies to all the sheets in the documentation. Thanks again! I now have a set of title blocks that change and grow as the details within the scope of work on the project does the same. Which is what I was hoping for/thought I had made, but user error had me attempting to over complicate it, go figure.
  3. Pat, Yep. As I was thinking this through I was wondering if that might be it. I did create separate record formats for each paper size so every time I was importing the next size title block it added the new record format for the data and was erasing the previous sheet data, basically started it over. Ok I will use a single record format for all the various title block sheet sizes. Then make each sheet size type 11x17, Arch C, and Arch D a separate TBB style but the record for each style will be a singular record format. It just will have its different graphic representations based on paper size. Now it's all starting to make more sense. FYI when I do this Andy I am going to see if I can transfer the Sheet record data with the eye dropper as well to the new single record format. So hopefully I wont have to enter the data a third time ughh, I will let you know if that works.Thank you both!
  4. Andy, I will try that later on today. The record formats are the same, so it should transfer, I hope. Thanks, I will let you know if it works. Pat, I created Custom Title Block Border Objects and created custom records for each. The records each contain the same data, the graphic symbols are different for each sheet size. I thought about just scaling it, but not sure if the appearance will hold. Gonna test out these options and a few others, because my basic process is that I go from 11x17 in prelim/SD, to Arch C for DD, and usually Arch D ends up happening in the CD phases, so I need to spend bit of time smoothing out the transitions and being able to build on all the data as the project progresses. Doing this twice hurts me. lol I will let you know what I find out. Thank you both for the thoughts.
  5. Is there any way I can go from Arch C to Arch D Size Sheet on a project, thereby changing to our Arch D Size Custom Title Block, and not have to re-enter each Sheets Title Data from scratch? DD was on Arch C Size set of 15 sheets and I have all the information entered for each sheet. The data is not changing just the graphic size of the title block. Why is the Sheet Data not Assigned to the Sheet Layer directly per sheet regardless of size? Am I missing something simple to not have to re-enter 15 sheets worth of Sheet Title Block information just because the graphics of the title block are getting larger? The client is adding services (which is great, they are trusting us and it means more $) so we are upping the sheet sizes are going from Arch C to Arch D to accommodate the request and additional schedules and reports being requested. Curious if I am missing something. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Curious if this is possible? Clients tend to know how to use a PS4 controller, now, and it would be great to let them interact with their Vectorworks Project Models that way. Mouse and keyboard or my Space Pilot Pro tend to intimidate and I like my clients to feel comfy and such things, they write checks quicker that way 😉 . Any idea if this is possible on a Mac, or PC? It would be a great add if they could fly around a finished model with one.
  7. Floating License's seem to do the trick. Rhino allows you to install the program on as many machines as you like. But you purchase a certain number of license's which float in the "cloud," when you start the program, that machine its on goes and searches the licensee cloud server for your available licenses to open and run the program. Once you are using all of them, the other machines wont be able to open the program if someone starts it, not until one of the machines currently operation the program is closed and releases the license it was using. Works great so far. Seems like a logical way to go about it i.m.o. Searched this because I am about to purchase a new machine for operations and retire my laptop. So I was wondering how Vectorworks handled this... Seems I need to call and get their process rolling.
  8. It seems a little strange with todays computing power to have Character Limitations when we are Naming Classes and setting up Working Files. I also do no see any practical reason why there is a limit on the number of Subclasses any one Class can have. It feels like legacy constraints from earlier Programing Conventions. It would be nice to see this open up a bit. Same should apply to removing limitations on Layer Naming Character Limitations. Though this does not seen as much of a bottle neck to work flow practices. That's just my 2 cents on that.
  9. Good point. Def. could be that as well. But it would sure be nice to have more spaces, literally, available for naming and unlimited sub classing, not that we need a crazy amount... but leave it up to the user not the program. VW leaves it on the user to make sure their files are compatible and play well with other programs. Or perhaps even an option that we can turn on and off per file, for unlimited character lengths etc, and the user would take responsibility for it. Idk but I wouldn't mind seeing that. As you said, there likely are multiple reasons. But I always feel cramped with the amount of characters allowed right now, and to me it seems something left over from old school windows and or mac coding, but I am no an expert in those matters.
  10. I have been curious for a while now, as to why there is a limit to the total number of characters we can use to name classes and Layers, as well as the total number of sub classes we can create? I am assuming this is perhaps a programing, file size reason maybe, but I do not see going forward why we need this limitation in the program?
  11. I did get one to work and align last evening finally. But I had to create a texture from scratch using the brick shader and I made it so it worked and was to the exact dimensions for the project. Then I had to make a custom hatch for the bricks to the exact same dimensions and then adjust a few times within the resource browser to make it work. The logic to create all this was not very logical, or straight forward, but it works! Then apply the textures to the walls and adjust the texture offsets and such. However this all took a long time to dial in. about 4-6 hours. Not counting all the time lost trying the presets and textures and hatches provided. I am hoping I can remember and refine the process more and use this base brick texture with its surface hatch for creating more textures and surface hatches with better alignment. However I am not convinced yet that what I made is "fool proof" but it works for this project. That being said there was not logical connections between the texture and the surface hatch when editing them. I actually have the surface hatch off set from the brick surface texture w/in its resource browser settings. And somehow these two being offset in that environment makes it so the brick and its surface hatch pretty much align in 3D space. Not sure why its working, lol but its working for now. Kinda just eyeballed it until it was doing what its supposed to. And creating hatches from scrach, thats an interesting one as well. Not user friendly for sure. Anyways, here is what I came up with and its look in model space. Screen Shot 2019-07-14 at 12.48.48 PM.tiff
  12. Same issue here with a current project. Either allow us to separately apply surface hatches and textures for rendering. Completely different set of controls for each. And then we can adjust them as needed. Or they should perform and align the exact same. Otherwise why have them associate? Very frustrating.
  13. @Jim Wilson Thanks. Much appreciated. I am gonna wrap some things today and take the leap this evening.
  14. Jim, At this point with Service Pack 3 for 2019. Would you or would you not recommend upgrading to Mojave yet? Curious as to your stance at the moment.
  15. Thanks I will dig into that and try that. Perhaps there is a way to get my classes over to layers via dwg. Then at least there is an idea of what my intents are for the geometry exports they will receive as well. I am just trying to establish interoperability between my work in vectorworks and other programs. Particularly Rhino. I have a chuck of time dedicated to that this weekend, time to see if I break anything or find a better way. I'll post an update if I find anything worth while.
  16. It would be great if anyones, and by anyone I mean my, Vectoworks Class Structures would Export to a Rhino 3DM file as the Equivalent of a Rhino Files Layers. This would help quite a bit for work flow and would value add and reduce labor for the file Export/Import exchange. Any idea if this is possible or being considered? Been Chewing on this issue a while in my work flow. Regards.
  17. Cinema 4D plays very well with Vectorworks and has all the capabilities of what you mentioned being concerned with. Any reason you have not explored that? Cost is what it is. From my experience there is not a True one stop shop for Design and all its visualization needs, though Vectorworks does a good job of attempting to be that. Vectorworks/Rhino w/Cinema 4D for the Money Shots can quickly achieve anything those others can. If you have your working pipeline established, that system can take a ton of hours to create but it can kick out Photo Real Renderings quick once its down. I have worked on each and everyone of the possible systems, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, 3DS Max, Adobe Suites, PCs vs Macs. They really are all comparable at a certain level of hardware, workflow, and talent. Like I said I do not know of any one box application that is able to do what all these other can together. And I have used nearly all of them at one point or another, including Large Int Firms and the Single Practitioner Scale, the Large Int Firms are not as far ahead as their work forces seem to indicate, at least in my exp, I was in the belly of the beast at a few. Its not nearly as organized and intelligent as one may think. Their marketing just makes them appear that way. The Vectorworks and Cinema 4D Pipeline is great once set up. And add a touch of Rhino Nurbs Modeling and Accuracy Depending on the needs of Project/Clients. Anyways thats my 3 cents... Good Luck!
  18. I have been cultivating a workflow between myself and some semi-new consultants. I use Vectorworks at the moment to Mainly define the Project, ie Scope of Work and then Generate the Existing 3D Geometries and what Design Geometries and Info I am responsible for. Within the current workflow I export all that to Rhino and then I get Rhino files Back again to import into Vectorworks. This process happens numerous times with different Consultants per the usual back and forth of work. Question I have : is there some reason why classes in Vectorworks Do Not Export to Rhino as the equivalent of its Layers?. It would make interoperability 150x faster... or perhaps more... maybe less... but definitely better. Is there something within the program or the larger world I am not aware of to achieve this? Or is this not possible yet? Any help with getting my classes and their corresponding geometries exported to Rhino on correspondingly named Rhino Layers containing that Geometry, so we all can easily access, modify, design and turn them off and on etc etc within Rhino would be great! This would allow us to get into the Design exchange worlds even faster. Any clarity or thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers!
  19. I have been setting up a workflow between myself and new consultants. I use vectorworks mainly to define the Project, Scope of work and its Existing Geometry. Within the current workflow I export to Rhino and Back again into Vectorworks numerous times. Question I have : is there some reason that my classes in Vectorworks Do Not Export to Rhino as the equivalent of its Layers and vice versa. It would make interoperability 150x faster... or perhaps more... maybe less... Is there something I am not aware of to achieve this? Or is this not possible yet? Any help with getting my classes and their geometry exported to Rhino on corresponding Layers so we can turn them off and on, and getting into the Design world even faster would be amazingly helpful! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Nick
  20. I am creating Schedules/Legends using Worksheets. I understand about text wrap etc. Just wondering if there is anyway to force a line break in the data regardless of text wrap and other formatting options?
  21. Luis. I have done that, I am now messing with 600 DPI Setting, it is rendering right now.
  22. kevin yes single view. Annotation space will probably solve the issue I was having with overlapping viewports and the pdf export issue... Thanks!
  23. Thanks all! This has been an interesting exploration. I am newer to this program I have been working with it on and off for about 2 years, I bought a full designer license this year. So I am fully on board, i.m.o. quite an amazing design and construction tool for sure. My goal for this questions was to get a high quality exportable image to use for presentation and printing purposes to a client of mine. Jim, I attempted your overlapping viewports with different classes being active and having no fill etc.... And the interesting thing was it worked perfect until I attempted to export it as a pdf. The fidelity for the pdfs was great as separated non overlapping viewports when I exported. The 3D rendered image in one VP and the 3D Linework in another VP rendered as hidden line rendering in the other... made perfect sense for a good work around. But when I ended up overlapping the 3D linework VP over the 3D model VP the fidelity of the exported pdfs dropped considerably for 20+ MB/single pdf sheetlayer export to about 200kb, and the only thing that had changed was I overlapped the viewports on the sheet layer.... Perhaps I am not selecting a correct setting on the export as pdf setting but it seemed more like a bug or something with the conversion of two VP on top of each other being exported.. I am not sure.... I have no idea why the fidelity dropped and when I printed it out the crispness of the image and linework went to heck... Then I took the linework I had in the model and exported it direct to the actual sheet layer. Scaled it appropriately and applied it just like I was drawing on a top of the 3d image/rendering on an old sheet of mylar. Then I exported that sheetlayer as pdf and still had the same fidelity issue..... if I move the linework off the top of the VP. The Fidelity returned to the PDF it was 20MB, overlap the linework ontop of the VP and it became a 200KB pdf. I have upped the Sheetlayer Resolution to 300 + DPI already. Anyways so in this it was only one viewport with polylines drawing on top... Needless to say very confused about the internal process going on in the PDF conversion... So I figured what the heck I then decided to export the entire sheet view as an high quality image file, a png, and bang the fideilty and overlaps worked fine! Beautiful image... So do you think this is a pdf conversion issue I am running into... any thoughts about what may be occurring here all? Anyways I am just making my way through and more deeply into the vectorworks world. I have 20 + years of experience in autocad, rhino, the adobe programs, revit, and design in general but this is the first program I have found that seems to integrate that entire workflow of design along with BIM and construction data coming along for the ridge. Its refreshing! And very impressive so far. Definitely not a beginners suite of tools. A Great Program for those that can think obtusely.... which is my bag for sure. Thanks for all the Tips. You will continue to hear from me for sure! Curious why with the viewport overlaps I could not get it to export a high fidelity pdf.... but I could with a png/jpg...
  24. Jim, Its appreciated. I see the thought process at work there. I am playing with the steps now. Much more manageable, making sense and looking better. Thanks! Nick
  25. I have a project where we are unfolding the 3D model for presentation purposes. We have a complex 2d polyline "image" that is meant to appear on top of the 3D objects. I have the linework complete as 2D polylines of that image. The problem is the 2D polylines are not appearing in a non open GL white box 3D rendering of the 3d objects, even though it is on a plane above the objects in "real space." Working view... it looks correct. Rendered view the lines are not visible. Any ideas if/how I can get quality 2D linework to show on top of nice 3D rendered white box geometry/in a non-open GL high resolution image? Can these two ideas be rendered to quality and peacefully co-exist in a 3D render? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!
