How do i send to surface now???

Using 2025 and looking for the fence tool that used to be in 2024. Was able to create a myriad of fence types. am i missing something. the Aus fence tool was wonderful but appears not to work with 2025. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

@Dave Donley@Gunther OK Found the problem So I did another reinstall and exporting worked fine. So I found the problem, it’s our user file when I attach it in tools options Vectorworks Preferences/ User folder I cant export C4D, If I remove the user file and restart VW all works ok again Not sure how to create a user file properly and also our template file has been used from an older file and I recall that this needs to updated to VW2025 but can’t remember how. Maybe you can tell me the steps. At least I think I have found the problem.

@Dave Donley@Gunther So still persists. Thinking about another program that may interfere with it, I use Photoshop to create image for new renderworks texture. So I did another full reinstall of update 2. All worked fine so then I opened photoshop then closed and reopened VW and couldn’t export C4D. Will try another reinstall and just open and close VW to see if its ok.

@Gunther Hi yes done a repair and no fix, did a clean install with update 2 to new folder and all works fine for a while then stops. I have been tolt it ay be a 3rd party software causing the problem. Will have to do another clean install and try other programs to see id one of them makes the export fail again. Thanks

Hi Window and when executing no dialogue box comes up. no error or crash. @Gunther@Dave DonleySo i have done another full uninstal and a reinstall with update 2 and it all works ok now.

Hi Have spoken to VW Australia and on a new install of 2 it works fine but the Update seems to be the problem. So have a fresh 2025 the do the update 2 and you should se the issue on a pc Thanks

Update 2 stops you from exporting Cinema 4D, FBX & Collada. The original install is ok but once install update 2 it fails to export and you need to do a clean install to rectify the issue. Do you know about this issue and if so when do you think a fix will be coming as i have to export back to 2024 to export. Thanks in advance

@EliM Hi See attached, Hopefully i got the question correct. Refer attached i noticed that the wall and components were not set by class. need to click the attribute panel to set by class also. Sometimes you need to switch between object and components to reset the script. I had to go from iso view to plan view and back to make the wall show correctly. Hi, Thought i should try Datasmith again. All good until i go to plan view in Vectorworks, the Twin Motion says VW has stopped exporting a 3d and you lose half of the model in TM. When you re sinc the file via the datamith Direct link auto sync you get a model without all the textures you placed on in TM. Is anyone else experiencing this? Will have to go back to Exporting in CD4 format. Thanks in advance.

Will look at this. The way i am using this is is the symbols reference a record folder and a worksheet is used as our legend schedule so the worksheet only places the symbols used in the legend and not every symbol See attached Untitled 9.vwx

@Grethe Connerth Hi you drag a symbol for the legend symbol folder to a design ,annotation, or sheet layer and then click on worksheet on sheet layer and update. delete on off and it disappears from the worksheet. Drag on on sheet and update it appears is sheet. HTH Alan

@Grethe Connerth Hi Thanks for the response. See attached a finishes schedule. I have a symbol folder with each one attached is to a records and i can place one of these symbols on a design layer, annotations layer or sheet layer and the spreadsheet will read them. So if you have a huge legend list you can have only the ones used in the drawing showing in the legend. I want to do the same with the electrical symbols. Hope this makes it clearer. Hi I want to add all the symbol used in a drawings that are within a certain symbol folder. Have been doing it with records and text but the symbol which is a bit of a drawing i can add the image but it will pick up all the images in the drawing if i don't sort. @LongpreArch Hi, When i opened your file i too saw the file way off in the distance so i turned on all design layers and classes and moved it to the origin and made sure the user origin was set to the internal origin. Have moved all the doors around ad did not find any issues any more. If you still have issues close and reopen the file and see what happens Also not sure why you are using the design layers the way you are?? I use design layers for say Site Plan, Ground floor , first floor and roof and all the items in the design layers are set as classes. Design layers are containers that contain classes like furniture walls windows etc see attached. Good luck Alan Document.docx

Been looking at Archicad and you can set separate layers and Archcad via Datasmith stacks all the meshed in layers. I guess i can save layer states but datasmith explodes everything. Is there a way similar in VW to Archicad????

Hi I can import a referenced Excel spreadsheet into Vectorworks and all the text is imported in the correct cells but none of the images come over. Is it possible to do this? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I currently export as Cinema 4D by Texture which works fine for Twin Motion. BUT it would be good to not have all the Vectorworks file explode when you export and keep hierarchy. I have raised this on a few previous occasions but Vectorworks has been silent on my questions. Datasmith is the same, it keeps the VW hierachy and explodes everything. If i have to open doors i simply don't show the doors in VW in 3D and put them in in Twin Motion. Thanks in advance.

When exporting any 3D file from VW and keep hierarchy i find that each item say a wall & door is exported as lots of objects rather than a single objects as in VW a wall for instance, seems to break the wall into components. Is there a way to have these items exported as single items rather than all the components? . Is it possible to do this????

Hi, trying to use a Data Tag for doors. We use Windoor. I cant get text to show in the tag and not sure how to link information to it like solid door , door size etc. Any help appreciated. Windoor Datatag.vwx

Hi if i eye drop the right wall to the left wall the texture of the left wall the wall texture wont change until i change it to by Object. Am i missing something? should i be able to eye drop one wall to another and have it automatically change from by component to by object. Thanks Walls.vwx
