  1. Thanks Art. I'll give it a try as soon as I get the chance.
  2. Thanks for your suggestion. I did what you recommended, but unfortunately it made no difference, the program will not open. Dell has given up saying this is a software problem, meaning a Nemetschek software problem. And I haven't heard from Nemetschek tech support in over a week, even after several emails requesting an update. I used to recommend VW to anyone looking into CAD programs, but now, after this disaster, I can't recommend this software to anyone!
  3. I upgraded from 2009 to VW 2011 about a month ago. Program seemed to install fine but wouldn't open. I have called Nemetschek and Dell several times. Both have poked around inside my computer with no luck. Have uninstalled & reinstalled Quicktime - no luck. Have updated video driver (twice now) - no luck. Have removed Dell security software which is notorious for causing this problem - made no difference, 2011 won't open. Have created new User account and installed 2011 from that account - doesn't matter, won't open. Have scanned the drive for errors - no errors. 2011 won't open. Have scanned the system files for errors - no errors. 2011 won't open. Requested a new disk and was sent another. Didn't matter, 2011 won't open. Downloaded and installed SP2, didn't matter, 2011 won't open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program about 5x's now. Always installs but never opens. Nemetschek thinks its a Dell problem & Dell says its a software issue. Meanwhile I'm stuck in the middle with a computer that can't run the software I bought it for and a worthless piece of software. To Nemetschek's credit they will not start the 30 day trial period until this issue is resolved, if it ever is. Anybody have any ideas? I'm about done with this. I just may be relegated to using 2009 until I retire.
  4. Hi Ray, I noticed you use a HP DesignJet 430 plotter as do I. I am upgrading to a new computer with Windows 7, 32 Bit in a few weeks, the same as you. What version of the HP driver are you using? HP does not have a windows 7 driver available for the DJ 430 on their website.
  5. A few versions ago, if memory serves me before VW11, there was a check box for overhead doors to turn off the overhead lines. Why that option was removed I have no idea. I guess there aren't any architects on Nemetschek's staff that have experience with commercial projects. Most of my work is commercial, and most of the time the overhead doors are COILING. If they are a counter door or fire-rated THEY ARE ALWAYS COILING. The removal of the option to turn off the overhead lines has been very frustrating for me. I sure wish they would fix this. Your post was not the first on this subject, I'm sure Nemetschek is aware of it.
  6. I am having the same problem with 12.5.3. I spent an hour on the phone w/ tech support this morning and nothing worked. Keep getting the blank Assign Room Finish diaglog box - on both new and existing space objects. I re-installed 12.5.0 and lo and behold the space object operates properly - my previous selected finishes show up in the diaglog box. I then downloaded the 12.5.3. update again and re-installed that and the blank diaglog box returns even for projects using the VA defaults preference set. I am a single user, not on a network, so there are no issues with administrative rights. There is a problem with the update and I am going back to 12.5.2.
  7. Ion, I tried your suggestion and it does not have any effect on the way the overhead doors are displayed. I checked use Part Line Styles and set line thickness for all parts to zero, and nothing changes. This is just not for one file, but all files I've started in VW 12. Furthermore, I imported a file started in VW11 which had some overhead doors with 2d Display box for overhead lines left unchecked, and when converted to VW 12 the overhead lines re-appear and I can't get rid of them. Very frustrating as all of the overhead doors are coiling doors not sectional doors.
  8. I knew someone would figure out a way. I'll try it, thanks.
  9. Nope! Door Preferences button brings up the Door Settings dialogue box, and that option is not available under any of the menus. Why I don't know. I guess its just one of the many mysteries of life.
  10. I would like to remove the overhead door lines that are automatically drawn with the overhead door selection. The dashes lines are inappropriate for coiling doors. I seem to recall that in VW versions previous to VW12, there was an option to show these lines or not. What happened ot that option and how can I get rid of these lines w/o ungrouping the object and losing all data info.
  11. Tom, Thanks for your answer. I instituted your changes and so far so good!
  12. I have recently upgrade to VWA 12.5.1 and started a couple of projects with the new version. In previous versions (10.5 & 11.5) I used a std. title blk: Condoc D GSA format. That option no longer exists in 12.5.1, so I have selected the Arch Vert. title block as it is similar. However it does not function properly. I have encountered the following problems: 1. I cannot change the "Scale" entry. It reads "Sheet Scale", no matter what is entered in the field - I usually enter "As Noted". I have tried to change the entry in the RB under the data tab and have even tried to change the title block in the VW file. Nothing works. 2. In previous versions when using Issue Mgr the CAD file name and Drawing Code were entered automatically. In version 12.5.1 those entries have to be made manually. That doesn't save me any time nor make things easier. 3. The title block has an entry for "Plot Date". But the entry is not available via the issue mgr. as in previous versions - the entry must be made manually via the Data Tab in the RB. I don't understand why the Title Blocks / Issue Mgr were changed when they seemed to work fine before. Is anyone encountered these problems? I'm afraid I may have to go back to 11.5.
  13. Having used VW 11.5.1 for a few months now, I don't see any advantages to the Batch Print command vs. the old Print Sheets command. Once I select the sheets/views I want to print, the Print Dialogue box comes up (this is in Windows XP w/ HP DesignJet 430). Whatever settings I select - printer, scaling, # of copies - applies to only the first sheet and the dialogue does not appear for any subsequent shts. selected. For example today I wanted to plot 2 sets of drwgs., only the first sheet printed twice. So the questions is if I have to set up each sheet individually for scaling and # of copies, etc., what's the point of using the batch print command? I might as well print each sheet individually. Am I missing something?
  14. I am having trouble exporting drawing sheets with worksheets (door & finish schedules) on them to "dwg." format - any Autocad version, doesn't matter. The sheet border, notes, details, all export, but not the schedules. If a worksheet when placed on a drawing is a graphic object, why won't it export? Is there a reason, or is this a bug? Using VWARCH 10.5.1 PC 2.25 Ghz 512 Ram Windows XP - home Would appreciate any advise on this. Thanks in advance gnkarch
  15. In a future release could you please add "lasso" to arrowhead types in Attributes Palette.
  16. This is a minor detail, but is it possible in a future release (the next one I hope) to add the "Lasso" to the available arrow-head types? It is available as an option on the text callout tool but not on line or leader tool, not in attributes pallet. how about it?
  17. Sorry, I haven't responded, but have been very busy. After I posted my initial message, I researched the VW Tech Board and found a similar post. The suspected problem was the importation of AutoCad objects. My site plan for the file that I had problems with contains imported Autocad information. I added the sheet I needed easily through the layers menu. However, Issue Manager does not recognize the added sheet. When I get the time I will e-mail the file to Tech Support, hopefully they will respond.
  18. Tried to add 1 sheet to file created in VW Arch 10.1 using the Create STandard Sheet command (run when file was created). This file has 21 sheets. I needed to add 1 ArchDet sheet, going from 4 to 5. Every time (4) I run the command VW tries to re-create all 22 sheets, instead of just adding 1. This takes several minutes, and when finished the program crashes (closes) without altering the file. I can't add any sheets. This can be a serious inconvenience - if you don't estimate the number of sheets you need when creating the file, you're out of luck. Version 9.5 made it easier to add sheets - never had this problem on files much larger than this file. Has anyone else run into this problem? VWArch 10.1 WinXP 2.23 Ghz, P4 512 Ram
  19. jfm, Thank you for your suggestion. However, I'm not trying to duplicate the Cased Opg., but get it on the Door Schedule. If the original PIO that you are duplicating is not checked to be on the schedule (in this case you CANNOT select On Schedule) than the duplicate will not be able to be On Schedule either, whether or not there is a Door Record attached. My workaround is to attach the Door Record to the Opg ID Symbol. But I don't want a workaround, I want an answer to my original question - Why can't I choose to put a Cased Opg. on a door or window schedule from the Object Info pallette? In other words it is the PROGRAM USER that should make the choice and not a Nemetschek programmer. I would like Nemetschek to answer that. Oh, I still have a copy of 8.5.2 on my computer, and guess what? You have the option to place a cased opg. on a schedule, just like any other door or window. Why was the option removed in subsequent versions of VW? A program is suppose to improve with new versions, and not go south!
  20. Am using VW Arch 10.1. I can't believe that you can't "check" the option to place a cased opg on the door or window schedule. Somebody tell me I'm missing something - that there is a way to set this option. Some cased openings are framed & some of the info pertinent to a door opg is also pertinent to a CO, such as size & frame matl.!! It is convenient to list these opgs. on the schedule. It would be nice is the size would be entered automatically like with doors. User since version 8.5?
  21. Robert: thanks for your prompt reply. you answered my second questions. What about the first question? Is the only way to move note database sections from one database to another is with a text editor (cut & paste)?
  22. I have been using VW since 8.5.2. Am now using 10.1. I cannot understand why the Note Database is limited to 499 entries. I am aware that one can have many databases. However I did not realize this until the Gen Note Database that I first created was close to the note limit. I have 2 questions. 1: Is there a way to transfer (cut & copy) notes from one database to another, freeing up space in first database w/o re-typing notes? 2: Today I hit the 499 note limit. I tried to remove some old notes that I didn't need in the DB any longer, but every time I tried to remove a note, I received an error meassage that I couldn't ADD any more notes, even though I was trying to remove notes - why? 23. Robert: Thank you for your reply. I have edited the workspace to add the Room Name plug-in. No one asked my opinion when producing VW10, but I have no use for the Space Object. It doesn't suit the way I design, or produce Construction Documents. But I'm old school, what do I know!
  24. Kevin: I feel your pain! I have been a VW user since 8.5 (VA 1.0) and the limitation for notes in Note Manager database has always been approx. 245 characters (can't remember the exact number). the limitation is extremely frustrating. I have several standard notes that I use from project to project that are longer than 245 characters and want to maintain in the note manager database. I have resorted to breaking the note(s) into several smaller notes to work around the limitation. I was hoping that VW would increase the limitation in future versions.. 9, 10, etc. no such luck.
