  1. Hi Mark It's a bit odd as we have 3 licenses and it's only our assistant who has the problem. Since SP2 2018 both in our template and files (new and existing) this problem has stopped but only for 2 of us. We are all on SP2 (and valium :-)) Cheers!
  2. Just noticed this Mark , just posted similar!
  3. File /document settings /units /show unit mark (tick/untick) This has come up before as they were appearing by default in SP1 VW2018. Our assistant is finding the mm appears at "random" on dimensions. In the first instance I am going for the human error interface functionality. So Jim my question is: is there a shortcut in the programme to disable/enable this function e.g Control X she may be accidentally pressing which is very like another operation? Many thanks Hope this makes sense! David
  4. Yes agree. I love the fit walls to objects tool and it saves a lot of time. But when I invoke the "human error tool" sometimes a wall will retain the extra vertices requested by said idiot and even tell you it's one height and it actually isn't (which is a bit dangerous). Sometimes I invoke the multi human error tool (Control #DOH) and copy lots of walls across which retain the original "fault" As pointed out the AEC delete wall peaks does the job...!!
  5. Interesting BC. I had a very similar issue (never repeated) in a section viewport with odd lines like that. I spent a day trying to figure out what it was and in the process stripped the file down completely to try and find out what object it was causing the problem (which didn't work btw) I'm sad enough to re-visit that file to see if this solves the problem! Thank you!
  6. @Gadzooks Thanks for this! No SS customer on 2018 now. I have got a lot of great help support from the forum. Stuff I had no idea about! All the stuff I want to work is largely covered by the issues reported to VW already by us and other VW users. It's interesting. I think over 75% of UK Architects still do everything in 2d (crazy!) so I think only a relatively small % of users (and that includes other designers etc who benefit from 3d Renderworks etc. I think @Christiaan touched on a few pain points here: I'd love to get to the stage where all our work including working details were in 3d and could be updated but VW are not there yet. And I've no idea when that will happen? All hail the simple stair tool! (Black Humour!)
  7. David? Welome to this thread David, as you have pointed out, this is already a long haul. Thanks for letting us know the details - It seems your query followed the same path and resulted in similar frustration - first when you had to try and work-around what seemed to be a BUG and second, when you received nothing back from VW UK. As I said to @Alan Woodwell, you need to bring sandwiches for this one. @Christiaanwill be round shortly with some cake. And we have other traffic in the queue - stairs, windows.......................................................... How do di reply? Afternoon Guys. This is such a long post I'm not convinced I am answering a question or adding to it.! Basically using the create roof tool you can have 2 (or more layers) and as pointed out you can apply a thin tile layer on top to stick out form the eaves. I got quite excited about this (saving lots of time) until I realised if you ungroup the roof the "+tile protrusion" sticks out on all sides (see below). I understand why it would do this in principle., and reported it as a bug(or at least ask for a work-around) via Vectorworks UK about 6 months ago fyi . Not heard anything back yet.... :- ( @Gadzooks Is this how I reply? I accept (I think) we use the tool to the very limits of its capability and we are pushing the barriers all the time. I know all about the stairs the roof tool etc, the many odd bugs. You'd need a phd in mechanical engineering to make the stair tool functional! What I'm also frustrated also about is that we are now using live viewports and attempting to adopt our (complex) working drawings into the process using the various components - in principle which should appear correctly in the viewports in plan and elevation - but they don't. This would save us a great deal of time, but we have had to abandon this development because it doesn't work. I don't mind being a pioneer but can't run a business in the hope of something functioning properly at some time in the future!

  9. Hi Christiaan. Just saw your post and remembered how I struggled with a similar roof. After playing around with the revolve with rail tool for a while I reverted to using a v thin roof and then backing it up with extrudes for the internal shell. It was very a painful learning curve :-) I also admit it wasn't very tidy but it did the trick as it looked ok from the outside. The added complexity is you need to get this done for working dwgs. Any way I shared my pain !! See the right picture which I updated as I had a closer look as to how I did it! ( I cant seem to remove the left image)
  10. I get lost in the wish list requests (too much information!) and what gets fixed and when! I certainly agree the stair tool needs a good fix. I know priorities are dependent on needs and the forum users priorities are going to be markedly different. I think whats needed is a sense of timing/ What VW are going to do with the info and when. If we knew eg things were going to get reviewed and fixed in a given timeframe then there would be more incentive to vote? I have put in several large and small requests and bug fixes but I'm never quite sure what happened to them. They certainly haven't been fixed and are preventing us from progressing with the technology. If I've not read something about how the wish list process works I apologise in advance. I agree with Double-D a summary/progress update might help. D
  11. I quite like the girl who opens up in Sketchup although her fashion style needs a bit of up grading :-) other than that I have it never use it. I agree with Claes and Zoomer. Promises much, delivers little. A cheap pretender. D
  12. Thanks Mark. Appreciated. We often find our (lovely) clients completely spacially unaware. No idea what they are incrementally getting. They only start to get it in 3d sections/ 3d plan images. We don't get paid to do too many internals/ 3d internal renders as it takes too much time but I believe we have hit a soft spot where we can do this to a degree as it makes the decisioning so much easier/quicker. We use live viewports totally now, so when "they come back :-) " and want a window or 2 moved and the fridge in a different place it's so quick to update. Like I said, never looked back! Of course all this makes the working dwgs so much easier too, but that's a different story!
  13. Thanks for the compliment Alan. It was an iterative process. Firstly I hate black so I use a grey pencil-like line tone. Secondly although I love RW I find a lot of the colour/tones too photorealistic. I was taught by Dave Donley to export the images into Photoshop and reduce the colour/tones and export them back. Since our job is to get clients to buy the design itself it is important they do not over-focus on the colour/image so this helps. The glass is "figured light blue" I was greatly supported by Tamsin Slatter with the overall render which I am very happy with. Of course I deploy the heliodon tools for shadow and set the Ambient occlusion pretty high. It has taken 4 years for us to get to where we are. We are now capable of producing amazing section images as well. I have to say 4 years ago I very reluctantly upgraded to VW Architect and Renderworks believing it would not incrementally benefit us. Through sheer hard work, patience and determination (and support from Design Software Solutions now Vectorworks UK and this site) we have reaped the benefits of this amazing programme. I'd say our design stage is now 30-40% more efficient in terms of time saved as our clients "get" the designs so much quicker. And pay us quicker! What's not to like? :- ) I'd be happy to drop box the render to you? Cheers D
  14. Totally agree. Will also watch Alans video when I have time. I made my own tiles but have continually struggled to place then in place
  15. I've had this today. I just updated my Nvidea graphics driver as I haven't updated it since loading 2018. That seems to have fixed it (and I wasn't in *top*) :-) !
  16. I agree with Pat. I was a VW luddite for many years. I run a business so I look to improvements in production/quality etc. I have never looked back as an Architect/VSS customer. No pain no gain. Tremendous support from VW UK, some issues yes but I can tell you we work in 3D with Renderworks, and we pump put our work 40% more efficiently and 100% more quality than we ever did before in Fundementals. It also makes our clients decisioning so much quicker, meaning a much better cash flow/predictability. Especially yearly upgrades. No it's not perfect, but it is amazing!
  17. We are where we are thanks to your continuing help, encouragement and support. Thank you!
  18. I just re-opened a file from a saved CD ROM disc from 2012 including 3d layered modelling and it was/is fine and I can work on it, Brilliant. Apart from what I was ashamed I was doing in 2012 :-)
  19. p.s. how do you give someone a reputation? I am still trying to thank MarkDD!
  20. Thanks Zoomer. Very complicated project with a very complicated client! It gets even more complex inside with a double height mirrored void! Thank god for Clip cube! 17-3D Proposed 1.pdf
  21. I agree with Fabrica if I understand you correctly Mike) . I use two roof components. A thin tile roof and a thicker "inner roof" As you correctly note, with complex roofs it is better to use roof faces sometimes. The issue with the create roof tool is once you ungroup it it will make all sides of a roof component "jut out" +(x) whatever you have specified. Something I have put in a wish list req to rectify. cheers D
