  1. Is there a way to edit the ID Tool independent of the Plant Catalogue? I have imported symbols from another program that don't seem to work with the place plant tool, but they are fine in the 2d symbols folder. I can place them ok, but the labeling is a problem. The id tool works, but I need to edit the id for content and size. ????????????? (Thanks Katie for the help with the printer)
  2. Vectorworks 11. I am not yet using viewports.
  3. This is my first design. Admittedly, I did not pay much attention to layers and sheets. (I purposefully put everything on one layer to minimize my confusion.) I used a standard setup so the sheets just came along for the ride. The layers are in the correct scale, sheets are not. I'm printing on an HP designjet 100. It appears that the sheets are trying to print, but not the layer I have active. The display is showing that 4 pages are spooling, but the page setup shows my design fitting on a 24 x 36 format. The spooling fails unless I go into 'tiling" ??/ It will print pages when tiled, but not all the info that is on the layer.???
  4. How does one edit the ID Tool? The terms on the Id label are not defined ( what is the ppn?). I'm not finding this in the manuals. I want to use a code for the plant and perhaps add quantity. I also want to resize the label. Den
  5. I am a new user, wondering about getting more plant symbols. Are there more symbols out there?
  6. Thanks for the reply. I have used the plant catalogue, however if I am using symbols brought in from an older 9 file I get the error "You must delete the existing plant record". This is confusing. After deleting the plant record, my symbols are "meaningless" or without a definition. Consequently my ID Tool is useless. The ID Tool does work with the original file, even though these symbols are not in the plant catalogue.?? Also, on a different topic - and I am somewhat embarassed to ask this - any directions on tracing a bitmap? After importing the bmp and choosing the Trace Bitmap command, nothing happens. I must be using this wrong. I am scanning in the plat plan of the property that I am working on, but then I am tracing it with the polyline tool. ??
  7. Simpler programs that I have used will allow the user to modify a plant listing to create a new plant. For instance, I work with more than 20 junipers, some that are not very different but available at the time. If I want to enter a new plant in Vector's database I have to start from scratch when all I really need to do is change two fields to make a modification. (Not to mention that the database does not save new entries consistently. I understand that this is being worked on.) Also, I should predicate my queries by telling you that I am not as computer savvy as what I read in this forum. I would like to use this program in production of my designs but my inability to understand this program is frustrating. If I remember correctly, in 9 I was able to double-click on a symbol and attach a different plant record or definition to it in a drawing. Changing plant definations quickly would be a great feature. Typically I use between 20 - 30 different plants in my designs. The ability to interchange quickly between similiar plant symbols would be a plus.
  8. I have placed all my symbols in a plant folder in both ID_symbols.mcd and VL Resources.mcd. I went into the scripts pallett and updated both. From the symbols pallet I get this alert "Output for 81 ID Symbols is complete & written to the location 'Plug-Ins\vw_land\data\ID Prefs.TXT' In the drawing file when using the ID tool the label is drawn but there is no text.?? I prefer having all my plants names in plain view in the resources pallet so I can bring in more than one symboll at a time to work with. Its what I am used to with my other program. The Place Plant Tool feels cumbersome. Having to wait for the tool to load every time you select a plant is awkward and takes a long time. I sent in my symbols and resources file to Katie last week in hopes she can figure out what I'am doing wrong.By the way, will there be someone from Vectorworks at the Mid-Am landscape show in Chicago this week? 9. I went back to Plant Record and the ID Spec tool did recogonize the info, but no text on the label. Can you walk me through the process of getting the right text in the right spot?
  10. I brought in a personal trainer of Vector to help me through this. He showed me how to set up a "starter file" that I can reopen on every design. He set up the duplicate file. Now you are telling me I have to transfer each and every record back into Plant Record?
  11. I have created a new Plant Record (Plant Recored 2) with symbols from Landmark and symbols i imported from another program I use. These aymbols are attached to records and are in the VL.Resources.mcd and in ID_Symbols.mcd.The ID SPECIFICATION tOOL does not recognize these. I've tried using the Plant Placement Tool. I entered a new plant entry to the Project Plant List and chose the symbol that I assigned to this plant. This was also not recognized by the ID Spec. Tool. I used a pre assigned symbol already in Landmark and that was recognized, although it didn't print the label? I don't really want to use the Plant Placement Tool - would like to select plants through the resources pallet.
  12. I have symbols edited and assigned in a file called Plant Record 2, when I try to affix a label I am routed to the "ID Specification" box. That box does not allow for a new file. I see only three possibilities there, one of which is Plant Record. I do not understand why I even get placed in the ID box. The symbols are attached to a record, and the record is Plant Record 2. Help.
  13. I am a new user, have not been able to use the ID label tool. I have deposited a number of plants and symbols in a new Plant Record (Plant Record 2),however the ID/Specification tool that pops up does not show that as an option. Help?
  14. Ok, I finally was able to "stick" the plant assignments in the project plant list. Not quite as easy as you indicated. Now I am assuming that I can use the assigned symbols from one design to the next, correct? If I can learn this program, I think I'm going to love it. I am preparing to upgrade to the newest version of Windows, will that be a problem with VL? dennisp
  15. I was able to assign plant symbols through the projcet plant list, thank you, however when I call them back up the assignment is lost. I want to use the same symbols from one design to the next. I do not want to assign symbols for every project. Will Landmark do that for me? Also, every time I hit assign in plant manager it closes down and I need to reopen it for the next plant assignment. Is this necessary?
  16. I work with a specific plant inventory. My prevous cad program allowed me to assign plants in the database. When the plant list was compiled I had the ability to make changes, even choose a different plant. As of now, I have not figured out how to assign symbols. Help.
