I have decided for the time being to limit my use of Plant Catalogue. Seems like such a waste, but I am bringing my symbols in a design as I use them, when I start a design I open the previous and delete the contents but not the symbols. Each design adds more symbols and I don't have to wait for Plant Cat.

I get the feeling that they havn't thought this program out too well.

I placed custom symbols in the 2d default library so I can access them through the Place Plant Tool. Some of these work fine, others do not. When in the Define Plant box some of the symbols are labeled 'Not valid'. Once I get past the first 'Not valid symbol' the mix up begins. I'll choose the symbol but the identifier above the symbol reads a different plant, and that plant is placed in the drawing.

When in the 'SET DEFAULT PLANT TOOL OPTIONS', if I select a plant by scrolling through the symbols in the box above 'edit plant', a different symbol is placed than the one I chose.??

I have custom symbols imported into a favorite file and into the 2d symbols file. When I bring the symbol through the define Plant dialogue the existing pen charistics of the symbol are not recognized. (If my symbol has more than one color used for the lines it replaces all with one color.)??? If I place the symbol through the favorite file it comes in fine (unchanged), but without plant data. What do I need to do to to customize my symbols?

1) I opened a new document, imported a few symbols and then placed them with the Plant Tool. They came in fine, with their Plant Record. I then chose to edit the symbol through Object Info. This worked. Then I imported the remainder of my symbols, tried to edit again and the appication error resulted. Reloaded, opened a new doc, tried to place a symbol, application error resulted. 1.5 & 2)My symbols that are in my drawings appear in the Plant Tool but when I accesss the Place Plant Tool the symbol I select is not always the one that gets placed in the drawing. It does, however, come in with a plant record. Access speed is also an issue.

Two issues - Every time I use the Edit Plant in the Object Info pallette I get an application error that shuts down the program??\ And 2 - I have resorted to establishing all my plants in a file and bringing that file in as my start-up file per each design. I then delete the previous design. I find using the Plant Catalogue to be cumbersome and annoying. I used a program 12 years ago that allowed me to keep a custom catalogue, add symbols, create and modify symbols. Symbol retrieval was instant. Am I really off the page on this??

Problem is solved through editeding the report, thanks David.

I am told I cannot create a report specific to a particular layer. this appears as a major flaw to me. If my customer request the cost or material list of one phase of the project I am unable to do that through the program. Is there another way?

I would like to create a report for a specific layer only. The CREATE REPORT file under TOOLS does not show any optons to do this. Can someone help? Correction - I have been told how to edit my reports. Thanks [ 01-26-2006, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: den ]

The current file is not sending all the info to the printer. A previous file is fine, and it sends the info over in regular increments (eg. 10%, 22%, 33%, etc). The current file gets to 22% and thats all, the design prints only that portion of the info. ???? I have printed about 40 designs, this has happened to about 3. In the past I was able to change paper size and print the design out in segments. My plotter is an HP designjet 100.

All of a sudden my designs are not printing correctly. Only a portion of the design is printing. I went to Page - Set Area, it appears to be correct. Any place else to go to set print area, or to preview what will print?

I'm in a new design, the handles on the tags are back. A temporary win?? Still having troubles with symbol carry-over. I lost a symbol I created three designs ago after it successfully imported with the symbol folder to two other designs. Also, I tried to edit the size of the tags in the data folder. I took the tag to the "Edit Symbol" screen where it did change size, but the change didn't carry over.

When using the "Show Hide tags" command a handle is provided to move the tag on the drawing. This option was not available on my last design. I placed my tags by selecting the plant and then choosing the "Show/Hide" command. With the plant still selected a handle should be availble at the intersection of the leader and the tag itself. Nada?? I have been importing the entire symbol library. For Viper: How do I edit my profile to display the info you request? I went to edit my info but I am unsure were to place the info. I use VW11.5, XP/ 512

After showing landscape tags I have been able to move them by grabbing the arrow that displays at the end of the leader. In my current design I am not given the option? I thought I was getting the hang of this, can you tell me what I'm not doing. Also, part 2, I create more symbols with every design. When I start a design I have been importing the symbol folder from the previous design. I'm noticing that I am losing some (just a few) of my symbols on the import, even though they worked fine in the previous designs. ????

The labels placed in my design with the ID Tool are too large. How can I scale them down? This may be related - I have imported symbols that are scaled correctly to my design. When I try to use the symbols supplied in Landmark they come in way to big. I set all my layers to 1/8".

I drew my property lines and building in the Sheet-Site Plan (General). I did my design work in the Mod -Site-Landscape. I copied the site plan into this layer. The scale between the two is not in sync, although the scale for each individual drawing is correct. ?? When I use the ID Tool the label is about 600 times too large. The symbols are also out of scale.

Spoke too soon. In order to use this symbol with the Place Plant Tool the symbol has to be placed in the Plant Catalog folder. Upon doing that VectorWorks places a locus point in my design when I select the symbol. ???????????

More info: I've imported symbols that I created in other programs, and purchased through VectorDepot. I can attach a Plant Record and the ID Tool will label them (although I cannot edit the label?). Although I can place them in the Plant Cat., and I can select them graphically when using the Place Plant Tool, I cannot edit them further. IF I place them in the 2D syms folder and go to AEC - EDIT PLANT CAT I can select the symbol in the 2D Syms folder, define it, find the symbol location again(symbol is not showing in box). When I select the Place Plant Tool now the symbol I just edited is still selected and places in the design. Now I choose Show or Hide Tags from the View menu and my symbol has a Tag. Success! I think. If this works I'm on my way. Thanks for your help.

I purchased Plant Art for Landmark. I imported them into the Resource palette. After selecting them into my design I chose Create Symbol, named it, and placed it into Plant Catalog. The file has been saved. Then I selected the Place Plant Tool, my symbol is in the Plant Catalog, I choose the symbol and now I am in the 'Set Default Plant Tool Options. When I hit edit a totally different symbol appears in the 'Edit Plant Catalog' screen, the original plant is not available. How do I get the original symbol into the Plant Catalog?

I apparently am not using my plant tool correctly, here is what's happening. I select the Place Plant Tool from my palette - hit the settings button and the SET DEFAULT PLANT TOOL OPTIONS opens. I select a graphic symbol, select edit, the EDIT PLANT CATALOG opens. When I select EDIT the graphic display chooses a different symbol. If I select NEW I must choose a new symbol in the DEFINE PLANT screen. I've entered my plant data and select ok. I select ok again to exit the Plant Tool. Selecting the Plant Tool again brings up the plant I just defined. I now select the ID Tool. The Plant is ID'd correctly, but the label is not as defined in the Define Plant Tool. Above the line is 1.00 and then the Botanical name. Below the line is 10'0" and "FIELDNAME". ???????????? This occurs with the symbols provided in Landmark. Now I can select the symbols that I imported into the 2D_PSyms folder and place them directly in the design. (Plant Record has been assigned) The ID Tool works exactly like above. I can't edit the label (not even for size) in either situation. The ID Tool appears not to be working with either setup. Beyond that, I need to be able to get my imported symbols to work in the Plant Catalog.
