  1. bjw, I don't understand why the shadows are a problem. Do you not want shadows? If so, then make sure "cast shadows is turned off for all the lights you are using. Send a screen shot. That may help us see what you have. I would be more inclined to think you could not differentiate the slats of the shutters without shadows, and/or hidden line rendering. That's the problem I constantly encounter. RenderWorks shadows are nowhere near as good as the human eye. Object with the same color, and near each other, do not separate well, if they do at all. Yet our eyes see them perfectly fine in the real world.
  2. Is there a movie somewhere about the visualization palette? I can't seem to get it to do anything. I posted a screen shot here.
  3. I have a few questions about viewport lighting and Renderworks. Please refer to the attached PDFs. The one titled "rendered" is a perspective view with an added directional light, and the view is rendered as Renderworks with shadows. The other titled "viewport" is the same view but rendered Renderworks with shadows background and hidden line foreground. 1) The colors seem a bit different. Why is that? 2) Shadows are softer in the viewport rendering, why? 3) How do I soften the Renderworks shadows when rendering the perspective view? I changed every setting I could find in the Renderworks rendering options, but nothing changed. I changed the style of light from directional to point or spot, and then I could see changes.
  4. Mark, Do you have a suggestion to deal with these problems? I think you are suggesting that VW should have settings for double wide windows without needing to use custom settings. I wonder how common double wide windows are in the real world? I have two in our home, plus a double hung+picture window+double hung combination (triple hung) in our living room. Looking through the Marvin Window libraries, I see nothing more than single wide double hung.
  5. Is there a setting to make one double hung window in a wall a double wide double hung? I've put two double hung windows side by side to accomplish this, but I'm getting some extra lines when I render hidden line and I think if it were one window symbol that wouldn't happen.
  6. Guy, Thanks. I had found the "stacked" viewports and fixed that. All seems to be working good now. This is really all about my learning how to use viewports.
  7. I think I have it. I see that I can place a viewport on a different sheet layer using the OIP. That must be what I had set wrong before. Maybe I should be twittering this!
  8. OK. I got to mess with it a bit more. I see there's some problem with more than one viewport on a sheet layer. I'll report back later.
  9. I tired the reboot, but no better. Something's wrong. Sheet layer visibilities are not sticking with viewports. Update viewport is not working. I think I'll post the file. Hopefully someone can figure it out and teach me about this, or confirm there's a problem with VW. Thanks in advance.
  10. Either it's goosed, or I don't know what I'm doing. Visibilities are all set correct, but layers that should appear in the viewport don't, and layers that shouldn't appear do. The OIP shows the layer info incorrect at first, then I mess with that a bit, and all of a sudden things appear as I have them set. I've tried updating all viewports, but that does not make any difference.
  11. I'm having trouble with viewports not updating correctly when I turn classes on and off, or when I change design layers. Is this a known issue?
  12. Beautiful! Got most of this now. As you can tell, I don't do this house drawing stuff often. Two more questions, please see the attachments. When rendered hidden line (door.pdf) the door leaf shows as a double thickness. Look at the open door at the left. Why is it a double thickness? And when RenderWorks rendered (door2.pdf), it appears as though there's a threshold under the open doors. I have that set to no threshold, and the heights of all the objects are correct at 0".
  13. Thanks. I have to mess with that. I don't see any casings on my doors and windows. How do I add them?
  14. How do I set these attributes on a door symbol? I want the casings, jam, and flat door to be wood. So far I see nothing about casings as a part of the door symbol.
  15. How do I duplicate a perspective view so I can see the same perspective but with different layers. I'm doing a bedroom remodel, and I want to see how it looks on layer 1, and then how it might look on layer 2. When I switch views I want the viewer in the exact same location in the room, and looking at the same spot. I know this can be done with classes, but I'm not having any luck with layers.
  16. I think I found a better way for me. I create a viewport, then crop it on the sheet layer using the Modify/Edit Viewport/Edit Crop command. It seems easier to deal with the crop "shape" attributes that way.
  17. I feel a "Create a Viewport Crop" tool would be easier and more intuitive.
  18. Is there any other way to create a viewport crop other than using some type of drawn object? A viewport crop tool would be nice. Maybe it's there and I just don't know it.
  19. OK... Got it. Not easy though. Had to do some import thing. I must have deleted this stuff at one time. I also figured out how to use Sketch in a viewport. Thanks for the help mar.
  20. All it says there is Document Default Sketch Style: No Sketch. Nothing else in the drop down menu.
  21. I must be missing something. I have no sketch line render options under line render options. It's like I have disabled sketch and I don't know how to turn it back on.
  22. OK, now I get it. All of my objects are 2d. Changing the viewport "View:" to top/plan makes those 2d objects appear. Thanks islandmon!
