  1. Has anyone had success creating a viewport with data visualizations based on a custom record format? I can only get it to work with "Special Records" (Spaces, etc...). Also, is there a way to combine record field values to change attributes based on If/And statements? I guess what I'm looking for is something similar to the custom selection feature. Thanks in advance for any help or comments! This seems like it has the potential to be a powerful tool! -Chris
  2. I've had this problem for a long time actually. It seems impossible to get text styles to stick. My specific use case is including a styled by class text object that's linked to a record format in a set of hybrid symbols. Just editing the text style (changing font size, etc) will un-style all of the text objects in each of the symbols.
  3. Hi Jim, I'd love to see more tutorials and examples detailing how to create various parametric and plug-in objects with automatically generated record data. I work in museum design and frequently need to create a set of 100-200 objects of various types with specific parameters. I'm working on getting some of these started but I'm getting a little stuck on the best operational sequence to get the objects oriented on the right plane (i.e. do I create a circle on the screen plane, extrude and rotate 3D or specify the plane that the circle is created on first). I'm not quite there yet but any tips on how to generate multiple objects from one script and give them unique IDs would be very helpful too. Another trick I'd love to pull off is importing tab delimited spreadsheet data to automatically create a set of objects (150 cuboid objects representing bounding dimensions of objects for example). Sorry if there are already tutorials that cover these. I've watched the Marionette Monday webinars and the basic tutorials but I haven't dug through the forums yet. Thanks!
  4. Just noticed that it's happening on design layers too. Not sure what was happening differently yesterday. It seemed like it was a specific sheet layer issue but that doesn't appear to be the case. Linked text within symbols seems to be just randomly un-styling itself when the text style changes.
  5. Hi dtheory, Generally files that are about 80-100MB with 1-2 referenced files making up 10-15 design layers plus maybe 20-30 sheet layers. I do museum exhibition design work so other than basic floors and walls most of my textures are applied to small objects but there are some moderately complex geometries too. I am noticing a somewhat drastic drop in quality when using "fast" renderworks, but "final quality" renderworks seems good and the render times don't seem to be any faster. I'm actually not sure if that's due to VW or OSX though. I hadn't done much rendering in the space in between upgrades. Also, walkthroughs are a little choppy now that I try it some more, but again, not sure if it's VW 2016 or El Capitan. I'll post again if I notice any glitches.
  6. Hi, I've run across this is versions dating back to 2014 so it's not new, but I finally figured out that it's a bug and not a mistake I was making. Here's the situation I set up: 1. I create a hybrid symbol. 2. Within the 2D component I create a generic text label that is assigned to a class and set to use class text styling 3. I link the text to an object record 4. I copy the generic text label and continue creating hybrid symbols 5. I add the object record to the symbols (roughly 80 unique at this point) to activate linked text within it Here's where it goes wrong: 1. I go to a sheet layer 2. I double click to edit the text style from the resource browser 3. I change the font size 4. The font size changes 5. While still on the sheet layer I edit the text style font size again 6. The font size doesn't change 7. I go to a design layer and edit the 2D component of any given symbol 8. The text style now says un-styled 9. But the class retains the text style So to summarize: for whatever reason editing the text style while on a sheet layer is un-styling the text in my symbols. I haven't tested any other scenarios, but this one is persistent and repeatable. Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right forum. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  7. I'm running VW 2016 and ElCapitan and haven't come across any issues that didn't exist before.
  8. Hmm, OK. I didn't have any problems until I tried to upgrade a computer a 4th time with 2015, so I assumed it was three. Would Nemetschek ever consider moving to a subscription model similar to Adobe's? I like that I can install on as many machines as I need to and simply sign out all other computers remotely if I need to use a product on a different machine. It also makes upgrading computers much less painful as your old computer isn't "using" one of your installs. Thanks.
  9. OK, thanks Jim. Is it now restricted to two machines? I thought it was three previously.
  10. Hi, Just downloaded 2016 and it seems great so far. I like the mac user interface improvements, and I'm looking forward to diving into Marionette. I successfully installed 2016 on my desktop, but was hoping to put it on my laptop as well. In the past this has worked as long as I only had it open on one machine at a time. Now however it's just rejecting the SN during install as invalid. Is this a functionality that has been removed? Do I need two seats to have it on two of my own machines? Thanks,
  11. Hi, So every once in awhile I have a problem crop up: I'll be working in a document and suddenly when I try to draw in Top View (not Top/Plan) the elements I'm trying to draw originates at an offset to my cursor (see screenshot). This is obviously very, very annoying. In the past I've just restarted VW or my machine and the problem fixed itself. This last time, though, the bug seems to be tied into a file I'm working on and I can't seem to get it to go away. If I have another document open in a different window, I can draw without a problem in it, but when I switch back to the other file (let's call it the "corrupted one") the problem is back. I'd never noticed a consistent trigger for this problem before, but here are the circumstances around the last instance: I was working on a large-ish file with close to 200 symbols, all with flat image render textures associated (small-ish framed artwork) and I clicked into one of the symbols to edit it. It asked if I'd like to switch to working plane mode and I said no and clicked the "always do this" check box. I rotated the 3D portion of the hybrid symbol 60 degrees on the y axis and exited the symbol. That's when the problem started. If I switch to screen plane mode it goes away, but any drawing in layer plane mode and it's back. Anyone have any thoughts? I'd really prefer to not have to rebuild the file... Thanks, -Chris
  12. 1000+ for live sections if anyone's still listening...
  13. Send the following: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler from your machine to tech@vectorworks.net, please. We are tracking a few similar issues now. Thanks Jim, just sent it.
  14. Hi Jim, Thanks for getting back. I've added my hardware and OS details to my signature. The problem is somewhat random but very consistent. It seems to be worse when I'm not clicking on an edge or a vertex (i.e. in open fill or into empty space to deselect). I've tried it with a few rectangles in a blank file and with a complex model and the bug is fairly reliable.
  15. I posted on a different 2015 forum about this but just wondering if anyone else was having a problem with unregistered clicks. It seems like about one out of three clicks don't compute for me. Super frustrating and makes it almost impossible to use. My mouse driver is up to date, but I know it could be a lot of other issues. Anyone know of anything to try to fix it? Thanks.
  16. Anyone else having some issues selecting and deselecting objects? I'm getting a lot of unregistered clicks. I'm sure there are a million reasons that could be happening but just throwing the issue out to see if it's common.
