  1. Islandmon For us mere mortals, could we have another hint? michaelk
  2. Nice work around Jonathan. Not to get off topic, but is it even possible to draw an ellipse in VW without first drawing a 3D cone? michaelk
  3. Mr. Shelley also sells symbols in smaller chunks. I think it's only $15 for the ETC symbols. (I'm sure he wishes he could get people to pay in Pounds Sterling. ) michaelk
  4. True. It converts all the vertices in the polyline to Beziers, Cubics, or Arcs. But if they are all Beziers, it will convert all of them to Cubics or Arcs. They don't have to be corners to begin with. What kind of vertices are you trying to convert? michaelk
  5. "Automatic" classes have their own pitfalls. I recently worked on a drawing where the previous drafter had put half the geometry of the drawing in the dimension class. But it's probably work trying. A lot of people seem to loose their crop objects.
  6. Modify>Poly Smoothing> pick Bezier, Cubic, or Arc. hth michaelk
  7. I ended up editing the sweep in the symbol. Actually I just replaced it with a new sweep, being very careful not to allow any part of the sweep to sweep back on itself. hth michaelk
  8. There was a change in the solid engine that affected the sweep command. But I would have thought you would have problems going the other direction. There is a discussion of it here: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=25395&Number=122412#Post122412 hth michaelk
  9. I'm amazed by that. See this thread: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=24870&Number=117936#Post117936 michaelk
  10. hmmmm Not sure I should have named Kevin specifically as the "guy in charge of the Spotlight bug." I'm sure anyone at tech support could help you. Kevin is the one who helped me when I ran into the same problem. As I understand it, there is a bug in Spotlight instruments that doesn't allow the default settings to be changed back after that command is run. It's an easy fix. Run one vectorscript and all is well. michaelk
  11. At some point the the life of the drawing, somebody used the Create Similar Object tool on an S4 26 deg with draw beam on focused at D2. It's a Spotlight bug. DON'T use Create Similar Object on lighting instruments. There is a fix. Contact Kevin Linzey (he's the moderator of the Spotlight forum - klinzey) for a script that will fix it. hth michaelk ps. great screen name.
  12. Try this: In the Viewport Crop: Set Class Visibility options to Show/Snap/Modify Others. Set 2D Selection Tool to Single Object Interactive Scaling Mode. Select All. That should get you a crop that is resizable. hth michaelk
  13. I assume all the gobo textures in the VW Spotlight library are B size, but I can't find any confirmation of that. I'd like to see both A and B size gobos in the library. michaelk
  14. No need to reinstall. I just changed the circle container symbol to have a white fill and it worked fine. michaelk
  15. I think I see the problems... Something weird happened with the existing EAP. Try looking at the path of the extrude that you have. Double click it. Choose Path. Select all. I see two objects. One a NURBS curve and one and Extrude Along Path. That might confuse it. Having your file open makes VW unstable on my computer. Something may have gotten corrupted in this file. I think the curve you have has a twist at the end that might be too tight for the profile. Scale the profile down by 1/4 and it will extrude along path with the nurbs curve you have on your drawing. hth michaelk
  16. Maybe let all the Attributes (color, line weight, dash line, etc) tear off and stay open while experimenting w/ color and line weight. michaelk
  17. The extrude along path has two parts: the path and the profile. The path gets converted to a NURBS curve when you run the command. The profile stays as whatever kind of geometry it was when you ran the command. To fix your issue: Double click the extrude along path. In the Dialogue box choose Profile. You can edit the shape and position of the profile from here. To edit the position or orientation of the profile, think of the 0,0 point being the position of the profile relative to the path. Or maybe a better way to say it is: The shape in the profile will slide down the path hanging onto the path at the 0,0 point. When you create an Extrude Along path, it always defaults to the center of the profile geometry. So just flip your profile upside down and it will be fixed. hth michaelk
  18. I wish the color palettes (ie line and fill colors) could stay open or have a preview button. I often find my self in the following workflow: Clicking Attributes Solid Fill Color - clicking a color - no, not that one... Clicking Attributes Solid Fill Color - clicking another color - no, not that one... Clicking Attributes Solid Fill Color - clicking another color - no, not that one... Clicking Attributes Solid Fill Color - clicking another color - no, not that one... Clicking Attributes Solid Fill Color - clicking another color - Oh, for cryin' out loud, just leave it and keep working. I'd like a way to keep the color palette open after I click on a color and be able to view the result before closing the color palette. michaelk
  19. Joe I tried, but couldn't make the containers stack above the data. But if yours are and you want to change the attributes of the containers, they are in the Resource Browser in the Containers folder. Just right click on the symbol you want to edit, choose 2D, take the fill out of the shape, and click Exit Symbol. hth michaelk
  20. Glad you got it working. You can also use ESC to "clear" the smart points if you accidently hovered over the wrong point for 1/2 a second. I use smart points all the time and I find it easier to clear unwanted points than to use the T key to manually acquire them. michaelk
  21. What version of VW are you using? I just did a test w/ VW 2009. When dragging rectangle around, it snapped to the grid as expected - unless, of course, the curser was following one of the faces of the rectangle. In that case it was snapping to an object. Turning off the Snap to Object constraint (but leaving the Snap to Grid on) made the rectangle only drag in grid snap units. michaelk
  22. The sweep is very powerful if you want the road to be an arc and the grade to be constant. If you want to follow a non arc curve, the loft tool will do exactly what you said: sweep a profile along a 3D curve. michaelk
  23. I encourage you to try one of Jonathan's manuals. His prices seem very reasonable to me. I think you will find they would still be cheap at twice the price. (Jonathan: You can double your prices! ) michaelk
  24. The curser itself doesn't "jump" to the next grid snap, but if you watch the curser position cues in the lower right corner, you will see that it is jumping to the grid snaps. Try drawing a rectangle with the grid snap on and the view zoomed in enough and you will see that the rectangle corner jumps to the next grid snap ahead of the curser. You wouldn't want the curser to jump between snaps, because you often want to snap to or acquire a smart point that isn't on a grid snap. hth michaelk
  25. Thanks for catching that, Pat. I always assumed that it did. Because it's looking for a real number, and dividing a length by a length yields a real number. But it's really just performing a division of two real numbers and not accepting lengths... Another reason to upgrade to 2009. michaelk
