  1. I just cut the wall, but yea now I see it, cased opening seems like a good alternative for now (I had cut the wall in half previously), there is actually the "complex swing" configuration which let's you do "swing-swing-light" but I guess I want to configure the configuration and I'll let that be the worst *wishlist* pun of the day.
  2. Hello all, I'm trying to get rid of the lines between the doors in the attached image. Does anyone know a cure for this or dealt with something similar? I can't put my finger on the problem, whether if it is the wall lines attribute of the doors or something to do with the walls. Bear in mind that the walls in this image are unstyled and do not have any components. Thanks in advance...
  3. Thanks a lot Jim, yea I can't figure it out either but I do need an update that's for sure.
  4. The same thing happens with the column object too I believe... anyone know a fix? Or did this issue get addressed in the VW2016 SP3?
  5. I can't get windows without any fill either... always end up with windows with white fill...
  6. I think you're on point my sheet on the sheet layer is off origin... that would affect the viewport origin as well I'm assuming. Anyhow I think I can solve the problem from this point on. But to answer your question; I'm trying to paste into the sheet layer viewport (SLVP) annotations section.
  7. The conflict I'm experiencing, concisely put, is the design layer origin is different from the viewport origin. What would cause this... Also a WishList request (might be absurd...) ; multiple viewport class overriding, could it be done? Thank you...
  8. Going along with this topic, although not VW 09'but for 16'; say I annotate my plans on my design layer, then I create a Sheet Layer ViewPort (SLVP) showing my plan but my origin is not in the same place, so when I try to copy paste inplace the annotations end up in the wrong place. Anybody know the fix to this ? I mean in my design layers I set the user origin to internal origin and disable user moving. I also can see my origin that it is within the building but when I go into annotation view for the plan it is outside the building in an irrelevant place. I must be doing something wrong...
  9. Just posting to second this motion in the mean time is there a script to put the information we want to a worksheet?
  10. I don't think it works with Architect either, although I have it turned off, it still puts in plug-in objects to predefined classes, invoked within the plug-in code I'm assuming. I'm in the process of creating my own standard naming translation to the ClassNameStds worksheet (which appears when once you enable auto-classing I believe) , has anyone had any luck with creating their own translation (language/standard classing names) and get it to work? Edit: Actually, did the ClassNameStds worksheet got altered between 2015/2016? Anybody know what would happen to 15' file with that worksheet inside once it is converted to 16'? Thanks...
  11. OmniClass is looking for beta testers for their upcoming Web API I've heard and they have created the depository below to get contribution flowing. If you're interested in taking a part in this development and testing phase I highly recommend following the link below and reaching out to CSI. This is a long time coming for U.S. and I think it's time to catch-up with UniFormat and UK. I know some of you out there are interested and talented in this type of software development and I'm sure CSI can use what you have to say. Again, strongly urge anyone interested to follow the link below. Good Day. OmniClass GitHub Web API
  12. Upon reading through this thread, I see the same concerns but I'm left with a question and I don't mean to come off as impertinent but -also don't know much about AllPlan- how is AllPlan different than VW? And why could it not be incorporated in to VW?
  13. Yes, I have noticed OmniClass is playing a little catch up but soon to be there and I thought VW might want to expand into that area since they have adopted GSA's spaces by function/occupation table. At least for US and then it could spread to different countries' standards, creating a knit translation system. But I think this is crucial for us, since it will be the first milestones of transitioning from dictionary definitions to architectural software dictionaries.

  15. CSI: Construction Specifications Institute; they organize how specifications are to be written in US along with other stuff I don't know. OmniClass system is basically a classification they came up which was devised from UniFormat, which was based on ISO 14177. So literally, it's a bunch of tables with data points under tables which help you categorize objects. Aids with object oriented thinking, take it that way. Edit: I put it here. Take a look at the excel workbook and beware CSI doesn't provide a combined workbook, that took a bit time
  16. here is the OmniClass worksheet combined into one xlsm file, as well if anybody is curious.
  17. That is something to think about for sure. What I'm not sure about is the separation VW provides for Top/Plan View (2D) and Top view (3D), meaning, should it be rid of in near future and shift to all 3D mode is the question. For now it is nice to have a different representation of objects in 2D plan and 3D view but it is against the idea of drawing/modeling things once. So yea, I think I can pick a side as a conclusion and be penchant for 3D modeling all the way.
  18. First of all, DM awesome videos and seems like you got your workflow down smoothly, thanks a lot for sharing. My two cents for this thread would be; 1) The industry is heading towards BIM inexorably. It's a painful process but it's easier to adopt early on rather than later. BIM is going to be the medium we will be communicating in future. And yes, a SuperFormat that is independent of market software companies should be the bonding exchange, somehow... 2) I would be on board with most of you that VW should put more effort to further develop its' 3D tools and model making flows. (think sculpting rather than drawing) 3) I think what we all need is a uniform classing system as well. CSI provides the OmniClass for this purpose which I have seen comes closest to answering this need. They should be working to create an enough sophisticated and all encapsulating language which the software company will translate in to their language. That's it from me now, thanks for the time
  19. Hello all, I’m working on to setup a company wide workflow. I have some questions but the main reason I’m posting here is to stress test the system I’m devising to hopefully bring out the flaws to surface with your help. So any comments or critiques are welcome, it’s what I’m here for. We would like a long term solution which will carry through each year vectorworks brings out a new release and synchronizes as smooth as possible with few interventions. This template will work on 2 main frames; 1) The Connected Library: A library folder which has files referencing other library files within this library folder. This is basically your good ole users and preferences folder but making references to each other as far as resources goes. (e.g.; User Tiles library file referencing resources from the user hatches library file.) 2) OmniClass based class system. I would like to adopt the OmniClass system to our template file and ultimately desire all the library files to be using these developed classes. This way we would have a unified language across our projects and we will be able to limit the number of foreign classes coming into our system better. (Is there a script to export the classes hierarchy with description cell visible?) VW Master User Folder (The aforementioned “Connected Library") will live in a company owned server. Every so often we would update the folder with changes and new updates. People will grab this folder and make it their own “user & preferences folder”. (How will this transaction happen given the 2 options you are given at the change of directory in using the user & preferences folder?) Another thing kept me wondering is, how does VW 2016 react to these anticipated changes? Does it render some of these things obsolete or make them impossible to implement? Thank you in advance, for your time as well...
  20. Hello All, I have decided to incorporate referenced symbols into my workflow. I was able to reference the symbol without problems but when it came to editing, it was a fail. The file I'm referencing from (I'll call it source file from now on) lives under the "VW User Folder" in favorites. The file I'm referencing to (I'll call it target file from now on) lives on the desktop per say. When I try to edit the referenced symbol it tells I have to update the out of date resource in order to continue with the editing process (even though on my navigation palette the referenced file looks up to date). I click yes to this updating process but nothing happens in the end, I can't get in to symbol editing mode. What would be causing this behavior? Anybody have a clue? Edit1: I reference with absolute path and NOT saving cache to target file by the way, if that would come in handy. If that's not a good way to reference resources please tell me so... Edit2: Happens on one symbol doesn't happen on another.
  21. I want some guidance on this tool as well, seems like it can be very useful but looks under developed. I hope 2016 has made some changes to this... Edit #1 As an end result what I would like to achieve is to connect the id label tool to a certain record format field. Just as described above, I tried it to achieve the same thing for the HVAC vertical duct tool but to no avail. Any help is appreciated.
  22. -Peter What I'm building now as part of my company starter template is a classing system which is based on the OmniClass provided by CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) in US. I'm hand typing all the codes of the specific elements found on the OmniClass tables to description cell of the classes. So I want to see which class corresponds to which code in the OmniClass at the same time with all the classes. It is nice for a beginner to see where to look at to understand what goes where in a project (when you hover over the class the description pops up, I like that feature). I think if a standard naming mapping was provided by VW to OmniClass within the ClassNameStds worksheet it would be a really helpful starting point for beginner companies who are trying to adjust to VW. So that's the reason for my wish. Edit #1 The class naming makes sense at the same time, but I want a class naming system which can grow on its' own, independent of the type of project. A user can logically create a necessary class combining different codes of the OmniClass table. I feel like this makes sense and leaves up coming up with class names to CSI. -Art V I agree with everything you say, emphasizing the point ; Thank you for the info by the way. Glad it is in the wishlist.
  23. I second this as well. Can we display the class description on the organization toolbar? Also make it exportable + printable as well? Please add this to a wish list.
  24. Where are the settings for the Standard Naming saved ? I mean when I change User X settings for Standard Naming, where is that User X information saved ? Is it saved in the application folder or the user preferences folder under application support libraries ? We are trying to establish an office standard and I want to know if these naming standards are stored somewhere that could be sharable between employees? Thank you
